I don't expect the writer to keep too close to the original story. Especially one like this which requires a great deal of time and exposition to allow for the complicated cat-and-mouse set up. But what they've changed the film to seems crap as well. I've managed to find a copy of the script (I won't link it for the sake of legality, though you should be able to find it easily via google).

Even early on, the script is bad. I've only read the first couple of pages, and it is already cliché laiden and filled with inconsistensies. Yagami (Or Murray as he is known from now on) sleeps through his alarm. He's late for school. The subway driver shuts the doors in his face and drives away cackling, meaning he is going to be even more late. Then a mugger shows up, steals a woman's hand bag, and pushes her onto the tracks infront of an incoming train. Hell, if the trains were that frequent, I don't see why Murray was so determined to get on that other one. Since when the hell do trains run only 30 secnds apart from one another?

Alright, it is an early first draft, and possibly just one of many proposed for the film. So For that reason I'll reserve judgement. So far though, it is looking bad.

It sounds exactly the same as the first Japanese movie adaptation, only its missing a few things and the context is obviously different. The only thing I think is going to kill it is Zac Efron.

I wouldn't have a problem if they included Ryuk and didn't completely change Light's personality. It's just way too different from the actual Death Note. I mean I'll see it. Hopefully the acting and what not is good.

My good christ, this is horrible...As in, the worst thing I have ever read.

They copied a good few things out of the Japanese films, including his girlfriend getting shot, but my main problem with all of this was that Light, no wait shit, Luke was afraid he was turning into something evil?!

I mean what the fuck!? Seriously...Seriously?!!?

guys, i think you're missing the point
it probably stars zac effron
and as we all know, any film starring zac is amazing, duh
just look at all 3 high school musicals
I hope you're being sarcastic and, if not, I will act as the voice of the rest of the internet for you. You are obivously a mentally disabled High School Musical fanatic. Take down all your posters and turn off your mp3 player for a few seconds to realise it takes more to be good in an established series which btw, has more fans than High School Musical, than it does to be hired as the pretty boy for an original series of Disney movies that anyone with testicles will grealty avoid. Zac Effron couldnt even sing, they had to blend his voice with another guy's and by amazing you mean for teenage girls and my mum. Btw, I saw what could possibly have been a fake poster but it showed the guy from House that plays Chase as Light (or "Luke" in this case -_-)

If you are being sarcastic, please ignore this generic rant and give yourself a big pat on the back for great trolling ability :)
you need to chillout mate
try watching 17 again, it should do the trick
It wont, I'm a heterosexual male.

I'm just gonna go ahead and point out that I don't think Effron playing light would be such a horrible thing. He certainly looks the part.
My next choice would be one of the Sprouse twins.

And no, I'm not a Disney fan. Except for the old animated stuff. That rocked.

You do know this thread started back in October right?

My thread was the first on this subject.

I know, that's what I hate so much about this thing.

It makes Light (I'm refusing to call him Luke because I despise that name) seem like the victim when in actuality, he's just fucking insane.

I can understand that Zac Effron looks somewhat the part, but the Sprouse twins? Are you high? They cant even act. Any people out there that agree with me?

They (well, the thinner one) look a lot more like light than Effron, now that they're older.
And they've never actually been in anything that required acting skills, so they might be better than you think.

Actually, when they were younger they were in The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things. They were very young, but they weren't bad.

The who twins?
They're some other Disney slaves. They play Zack & Cody on The Suite Life.
I don't recommend watching it. Ever.

Oh yeah, I know those things.

They're fucking annoying but they were hilarious in Yu Gi Oh Abridged :D
They were in that? Like, voice acting?
No, of course not :p

They just made fun of them by having them as Tristin's conscience in the later episodes

It was pretty funny

It's about 2 minutes in when they do it

Hello, my name is abobe my avatar, well my fake name anyway. I like anime and acctually am a moderator of a local (uruguay) anime forum with more than 300 active users.

*deep breath*
I think that based on your avatar, the assumption you make that anyone here that knows of death note is a fan and the fact you even care of this or was at all surprised.
*exales*
Makes me not wanna post in this topic, except to say that in my opinion death note is a LARGELY over estimated and fan girl-boy hyped, dull anime in general with the over all look of some kind non sexual hentai, or some kind of shelfter to the people that were too young to obsess over nightmare before christmas.

On the topic i kinda understand the feeling of wanting to make a more accesible version of some of our hobbies so other poeople can see that there's value in them. But you have to understand not to expect great things when you try to make very hevy medium specific ip aproachable for all audiences. If you don't, you won't get let down and you might get pleasently surprised.
