Time to break out the old Tissue Compression Eliminator?
I think we're talking Stazer Rifles for this. With Nitro-9 backup grenades.

Even if it was HBO, I could begin to accept the idea. But Fox? That's like giving it to Channel 5 or L!VE TV.
I don't know a topless female doctor playing darts might be interesting.

Bruce Campbell for the head of Torchwood, Jeffery Coombs as his side kick and because t.v. is stupid Paris Hilton in the Gwen role.

I can dream can't I?

No. Plus I'll give you a discount on all weapons purchased. Bored of just shooting your enemies dead? Get a Maliwan and light some people on fire!

As if. Everyone knows that any half-decent mass slaughter needs to be done with a Vladof and nothing less.

Doctor Who is British straight through. It wouldn't work as an Americanized show.
Torchwood. Well, I don't care about Torchwood.

Atlas and Jakobs are my personal favourite. Vladof are too random, might be because im Mordecai.

I'm more of a Dahl/Hyperion man, myself. You can have all the firepower in the world at your fingertips, but you're still screwed if you can't shoot straight.

Especially if the employees are running away.

It sounds like a bad idea, but that's never stopped them before. Like the utterly stupid thing they did to "Planet Earth", the BBC David Attenbough series... THEY REPLACED DAVID! Seriously, the man is the God of Nature Documentaries, how could they replace him?

I assume its because Fox/whoever's doing it assume the average American can't understand the average Brit on the BBC. Understanding arses.

The BBC would drather give up blue peter than doctor who. Is blue peter still going?
I don't get why people can't watch originals, this goes for both sides of the pond. Although torchwood would work in America but doctor who is more british than scones, crumpets and cucumber sandwhiches.

You're probably right. That's why programmes like Taggart and Rab C. Nesbitt are subtitled in the US. Or so I heard.

EDIT: Speaking of Rab C. Nesbitt, they had an episode starring David Tennant as a transvestite. "Interesting" would be one way to describe it.

TBF, Taggart and Rab need subtitling in England ;)

Tennant's first acting role on British TV to be precise.

Wow that's hysterical, Tennant somehow fits that roll very well.

Hmm. Bad examples. I'm sure there are others, they just didn't occur to me at the time.
I do find it easier to understand the Glaswegian accent after a few pints though. Maybe that's the secret.

How many Tennant fanboys do you think would have a <url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StupidSexyFlanders>Stupid Sexy Flanders moment watching that?

Absolutely I would!
You didn't leave anyone for me!
OT: I want to stab the person who came up with the idea for that.
IN THE FACE!
Seriously, I'm sure that they would pay respect to the original, but the "OMG LOOK AT THIS SUBLTE WINK TO THE ORIGINAL"s would get in the way, along with the butchering of the original concept.

Apparently Fox has plans to make a U.S. version of Torchwood and possibly Doctor Who. I'm really against this, I think these are classic British shows (or at least Doctor Who is) and I don't see how either can be successful in an American market.

Is it just me, or does this seem like a bad idea? Also, why are there so many attempts to Americanize British TV shows?
just remember America this was our idea and our success. so if you screw up and noone likes your crappy rip offs then you've noone to blame but yourselves! XP

Jesus christ, you guys speak practically the same language. Why the fuck do you need to make an American version of everything?

Maybe it's that I speak a fairly minor language myself, but I can't understand the lack of willingness to watch foreign movies or shows undubbed... Let alone why you'd need to make your own version of a show that is already aired in your language.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! That'll be shit.

As shit as the American Office. As shit as the American Red Dwarf... Hell, as shit as Friends after you've seen Coupling!
Much as I agree with your latter two examples, I found the original version of the office to be highly overrated. I actually prefer the American one.
Really? It was the same script, just with people who had far worse comic timing in roles that weren't written for them. What made The Office was the fact that it was believable, and the actors they got for the American one made me very aware I was watching a TV show, not a documentary.
I honestly had no idea it was the same script. I got very bored of the Office, very quickly, as I have with most things featuring Ricky Gervais. To me, he's very, very smug about the whole comedy thing, and seems to try to squeeze a laugh out of you. I suppose I just find the man annoying.

We in America did a great job with the office, but this...yeah. I don't think that lightning will strike twice. Considering that it usually ends in failure.
