GOOD. I dont want an "ASSASINS FER AMURICA" game. I want people to push the envelope and get past this juvenile "I'm good, you're bad" rut that gaming is in.
Because the imperialistic British were in the right for forcing their government on the colonies?
Was it also right for the Patriots commit genocide against the native americans at the same time?

This was a war of two evils, so they should be shown equally.
At the time, they were not committing a genocide against all Native Americans, so your comment is a red herring.

Equally? *looks at African history, Irish history, Indian history, and Chinese history* lol, the two are hardly the same.
Actually during the revoluntionary war, the colonial forces where quite anit- the native americans and killed quite a few of them, quite a few notable clans such as the iroquise sided with the British for this reason
As I said before, I'm not saying the patriots were innocent, just that Britain is in no position to claim the moral high ground.
As a Brit I hope that if you find anyone of my fellow County men/women who do try to claim the moral high ground, that you rip them a new one because they are beyond stupid. I mean we had the largest Empire in history and we got it by going to other peoples countries, shooting anyone who looked at us funny and then made the survivors our *****. How can anyone claim that we were the good guys? But I do have to say I have never really come accross any Brit doing so. As a people we seem to be good at admiting what major douche nozzles we were back then.
To be fair to the people on the escapist, I don't recall seeing any Brits claiming moral high ground on imperialism against the US. On Youtube however, I have seen Englishmen try to claim the moral high ground when Irish history is brought up and that the Irish should "stop complaining, because it wasn't that bad". I think that guy was what you guys call a Chav.

This is entirely off subject, but I love that .gif, and I'll use it from now on when I get too frustrated online and need to walk away.

On-topic, sweet. It's nice to see that they are sticking to the word about not having a good side in the battle.

Oh good, I was worried this thread wouldn't devolve into pointless nationalist bickering.

Re : Something that actually relates to the OP :

I'm with what a couple people in the thread have said : I'm glad they aren't being onesided on the whole "Colonists vs. British" thing, but I'm not buying AC 3 unless the plot actually moves. I don't really care about <long-dead assassin dude>, I want to see what happens to Desmond regarding the whole .

Well that is how life worked back then. Britain would've taken the gold medal, but the rest of the world wasn't that far behind. I'd say it's not the methods that were the problem, it was the scale. If it had resources, it was a target.[small]As for the American Revolution you could argue that british rule could have been a better alternative at the time and a diplomatic split later would have been a better start to America.[/small] Lets leave it there as arguing that spliting violetly sometimes did more harm than good will lead to one of us getting a warning.

The whole thing really doesn't matter, honestly. If you are a Templar, you die. If you get between Connor and a Templar, you die.

I'm not the biggest fan of my country what with it being filled with prejudice and stupid and all but.. This sorta thing gets on my nerves. I played a few of the Assassin's Creed games and I never got any sort of Pro-american vibes. ...Besides.. THE GAME IS BEING MADE BY UBISOFT MONTREAL

We only did it to foreigners, who are inherently inferior by virtue of being born on the wrong patch of dirt.

Everyone bleeds the same color so whats the big deal? Now I could understand if I saw my great great great grandfather get done in by Connor instead of actually standing against the Brits and dying aboard a ship that repelled their navy. However that is a personal connection and I have none to fictional characters. Just as I or my family wouldnt care if an AC game stabbed fictional people in the Iraq war but we would most certainly care if they stabbed me instead of showing my return to the states

Thats what it will come down to for me. If they rewrite history using peoples ancestors and denigrate their service and deaths for their country for sake of a fictional story then I have a huge problem with that. If they just put in fictional people to tell their story then Im ok with it and I dont really care what side they are on

The reactions

Before this trailer: OMG, this whole thing is just American gun wank

After this trailer: OMG stabbing someone through the chest with a bayoneted rifle and shooting another guy? THAT'S SO UNREALSTIC!

Or alternatively: OMG they're just traitors/red coats in disguise this game is just American gun wank.

Or alternatively: OMG this game is anti-American!

So in other words Ubisoft had people whining about one thing before they released this trailer and now people are whining about three things with one of those things being the thing that they tried to get rid of with this trailer. You know if I had to work in the PR department for any video game company I probably would've killed myself long ago.

killing americans in a game stopped being relevant a long time ago as most games do it.
It's because the rest of the world doesn't give nearly as much of an arse about The American Revolution as Americans do and we were a little worried that this would be a "Rah Rah Go America" game...

The fact that bluecoats are getting killed in the game means that (hopefully) it won't be a one sided "The British are EEEEVVVVIIIILLLL" story and might have some decent complexity to it.
As a Brit, we don't learn anything about the American revolution, so it'd be nice if this game had a fair historical representation of what was going down. With some nice stabby stabby action as well. I'm fine with murdering digital representations of my fellow countrymen as long as the yanks are fair game too and neither side is represented as moustache twiddling evil (though I do thoroughly expect to and hope to encounter at least one moustache twiddling British templar)
Oh, I hope his name is Nigel!

I never cared about killing British the game will give you a reason to kill both sides, also we were dicks back then we can take some retribution, I said all along you would kill people on both sides, the British and American soldiers you kill are affiliated with the templares so pop goes their neck simple as. Who cares about killing a certain nationality I was getting bored of Italians :p

Well, had there of been no revolution, then why not? If you play games like Civilization, or watch sci-fi movies, then the masters over the colonies are often depicted as the good guys.

OT:

RIFLES.

DON'T.

WORK THAT WAY.

Well personally I think it's slightly difficult to make Americans seem evil, which is what a lot of people wanted, in the Revolutionary War. It's just really hard to. Civil War maybe, both sides did horrible things to each other and both sides had very understandable means for going to war. It would have been mad easy then. Still am buying this though.

I think the OP is going for the exact opposite, actually. People have been complaining that the game seems to be really one-sided, what with the decidedly pro-American promotion going around. (For some reason, people were actually BLAMING Americans for this, even though the game is made by French people. But I digress.) I'm fairly certain the OP is saying "See? There are American bad guys too, just like they said there would be!"
French people? The game is made in Montreal. Montreal is in Canada. People who live in Montreal are Canadians not French.
Ah yes but the official language in Montreal is French :D

If my American friend has taught me anything, coming from Montreal makes you a 'French CanAlien'.

Nigel just makes me think of Nigel Thornberry. By George I've got it! A moustache twiddling templar Brit called Nigel who frequently describes things as 'smashing'!

Hard to make the seem evil? Christ, everyone was all over Jimmy Carr for tax-dodging! You Yanks owe us a good 200+ years worth of back taxes! Scandal! Scandal I cry!

Ah. Well, I will admit, I did absolutely no research to back up that claim. BUT they do SPEAK French in Montreal, do they not?

Holy shit so I can kill my fellow Americans in the new Assassin's Creed! I was worried I would only be able to kill the Redcoats.
