This very much, I mean come on chaps video games do have a habit of been a tad stereotypical in how they portray elements and characters in game. Anyway as a Brit i've been warming to this game slightly, maybe now I can expect something a little better than Mel Gibson in the Patriot, but not much.Shpongled said:Are you guys just dense or are you purposely missing the point?
People weren't worried about the fact that we might have been killing Brits, we were worried about the possibility of the entire storyline in the game being driven by an overly patriotic "fuck yeh america!" sentiment. We were worried about that because that would make for a dull, uninspiring and overall crap storyline. The reason we were worried about this is because earlier trailers (specifically the july 4th one) seemed to focus entirely on said aforementioned sentiment and ignore any possibility of there being a sensible, half decent story somewhere in there.
The fact that we can now see that the British aren't going to be the only victims suggests that said aforementioned sentiment isn't going be the sole drive of the storyline, which gives us hope that the storyline might actually somewhat decent.
It's nothing to do with bashing the americans or finding something inane to ***** about and everything to do with people being worried (because of poor marketing) that the game they might have been looking forward to is being turned to shit. Whether you like it or not these trailers are a huge part of the info we have on the game at the moment, it's not exactly unusual for people to draw things from them about what the game might be like on release.
Hope that's cleared things up.
What I would like to see is that there are two sides to every story. For example one aspect that forced the war of Independence to come around was that the crown wanted the colonies to stop expanding into native Indian territory, hopefully the game will bring this fact to life given the PC is native attacking patriots.
Anyway forgive me if I have my facts wrong but from my own layman knowledge from what i've picked up off TV is that the reason the Brits started taxing the colonies was because they had just fought a big war and had alot of troops stationed there, so they wanted the colonists to pay for it themselves since those troops were protecting them. Ofc thats ignoring the whole taxation without representation issue but still...
EDIT yeah killing enemies on screen is fun thats why we have aliens and Nazis so we can forget about been PC while we play games, this game however has a historic story and plot, so if theres going to be one I would like it to do a little justice to the subject matter. Sure the Brits as any empire in the world were shitheads but not Nazi level shitheads
And besides most of the games i've played don't portray Nazis or Russians as Evil, Maybe i've been playing the wrong games but in WW2 games I just shoot them, or stop them creating a superweapon, its just one side vs the other, no Jews, or holocaust, ofc we know what the Nazis did was evil but we arn't constatanly reminded so ingame.
