Are you guys just dense or are you purposely missing the point?

People weren't worried about the fact that we might have been killing Brits, we were worried about the possibility of the entire storyline in the game being driven by an overly patriotic "fuck yeh america!" sentiment. We were worried about that because that would make for a dull, uninspiring and overall crap storyline. The reason we were worried about this is because earlier trailers (specifically the july 4th one) seemed to focus entirely on said aforementioned sentiment and ignore any possibility of there being a sensible, half decent story somewhere in there.

The fact that we can now see that the British aren't going to be the only victims suggests that said aforementioned sentiment isn't going be the sole drive of the storyline, which gives us hope that the storyline might actually somewhat decent.

It's nothing to do with bashing the americans or finding something inane to ***** about and everything to do with people being worried (because of poor marketing) that the game they might have been looking forward to is being turned to shit. Whether you like it or not these trailers are a huge part of the info we have on the game at the moment, it's not exactly unusual for people to draw things from them about what the game might be like on release.

Hope that's cleared things up.
This very much, I mean come on chaps video games do have a habit of been a tad stereotypical in how they portray elements and characters in game. Anyway as a Brit i've been warming to this game slightly, maybe now I can expect something a little better than Mel Gibson in the Patriot, but not much.

What I would like to see is that there are two sides to every story. For example one aspect that forced the war of Independence to come around was that the crown wanted the colonies to stop expanding into native Indian territory, hopefully the game will bring this fact to life given the PC is native attacking patriots.

Anyway forgive me if I have my facts wrong but from my own layman knowledge from what i've picked up off TV is that the reason the Brits started taxing the colonies was because they had just fought a big war and had alot of troops stationed there, so they wanted the colonists to pay for it themselves since those troops were protecting them. Ofc thats ignoring the whole taxation without representation issue but still...

EDIT yeah killing enemies on screen is fun thats why we have aliens and Nazis so we can forget about been PC while we play games, this game however has a historic story and plot, so if theres going to be one I would like it to do a little justice to the subject matter. Sure the Brits as any empire in the world were shitheads but not Nazi level shitheads

And besides most of the games i've played don't portray Nazis or Russians as Evil, Maybe i've been playing the wrong games but in WW2 games I just shoot them, or stop them creating a superweapon, its just one side vs the other, no Jews, or holocaust, ofc we know what the Nazis did was evil but we arn't constatanly reminded so ingame.

I don't care who's killing who. It's all a game. I couldn't care less if Swedes were brutally murdered or whatnot in a game (I'm Swedish). They're games, who cares who gets killed?

Anyone caring has to get their shit together! Games are made up - even if they're based on reality. And if they, somehow, would be a 100% replica of what actually happened - it happened already, who cares?

Perhaps if it was a game with a really good story and I could prevent a lot of Swedes from getting killed, then maybe I would have gone with that alternative. Maybe. Only because I could. It's still a game though.

"Oh noes, someone is killing in-game people that are supposed to be from the same country as I! BUHU"

If it's a game where I have to make choices, I will. I'm not gonna cry about it though.

WHEW! Don't know what I would have done if I couldn't kill those horrible, horrible Americans. In all seriousness though, how does this matter? If it goes with the story, who cares what "team" the guys you are killing are on? People getting worked up over this whole controversy are just being pathetic. I just hope the "Die Americans!" section isn't simply shoehorned in to appease gamers from other countries, if it fits and progresses the story positively than I'm all for stabbing up my fellow countrymen.

Instead we can get annoyed by how silly everything looks now because they seem to be determined to make it looks as actiony as possible.
Please don't make this an actual complaint. I really don't think I'll be able to handle that it if people start saying games are too actiony.

OT: It's weird how that satisfied people. For the amount of bitching I've seen, you guys swayed super easy.

Considering Ubisoft is French Canadian, I don't see why people were thinking this would be 'Merica-centric.

I guess 4 Americans to the countless British is at least a start. But to be honest I think I've lost interest in the franchise now. Not because of the killing British people thing, I just don't really see enough new to make it worth buying. Maybe I'll get it once the Complete Edition comes out, or whatever they choose to call it this time round.
This. Or if the writers make more of an effort to include Desmond, which by Revelations, was literally the only reason I even played it. And that still fucking disappointed me. Assassins Creed has sooo much potential, but so far, they kept squandering it on Ezio, Italy (Please, Istanbul was no real cultural change) and far too cryptic scenes about what actually happened thousands of years ago (That was no solar flare. A solar flare would've raped the planet in half).
a solar flare wouldnt cut a palnet in half, a solar flare would basically kill all life, turning earth, for example, into a barren planet, like mars or venus.

About time someone at Ubisoft learned that seeing is believing (aka "pics or it didn't happen"), and that very few people wanted to just take their word for it that the game would be unbiased... (This one trailer isn't enough to prove that completely of course, but it's a small step in the right direction to save the image of the franchise in the eyes of many fans...)

Because if the people on this forum don't complain about America once a day their fallout-esque slave collars explode their heads.

Sorry, I didn't mean it literally. But yes, a solar flare would leave the entire planet completely lifeless with no possibility of anything surviving.

killing americans in a game stopped being relevant a long time ago as most games do it.
It's because the rest of the world doesn't give nearly as much of an arse about The American Revolution as Americans do and we were a little worried that this would be a "Rah Rah Go America" game...

The fact that bluecoats are getting killed in the game means that (hopefully) it won't be a one sided "The British are EEEEVVVVIIIILLLL" story and might have some decent complexity to it.
Honestly? This is Assassins Creed, for crying out loud. Not a series known for being all that deferential to either side in ideological debates, in my opinion.

I've been really surprised by the fear of overweening patriotism in AC3. Glad to see my confidence is not misplaced.

GOOD. I dont want an "ASSASINS FER AMURICA" game. I want people to push the envelope and get past this juvenile "I'm good, you're bad" rut that gaming is in.
Because the imperialistic British were in the right for forcing their government on the colonies?

OP:Does this mean people will stop making a fuss over red coats being killed?
1) I feel that I can speak for the whole of Britain (not Scotland, Wales or northern Ireland of course as these contries exist in a hypothetical alternate dimension where Britain is made up of more than one country) when I say that we are pleased by assasin's creed's offering of imaginary blood but it will take much more to appease us after its unforgivable display of sickening american patriotism.

2) I think its obvious that americans are jelous of the British empire's ability to take over land with the clever use of flags.

3) I still wont play the game unless I discover we will be playing the role of a super ninja who just struggles with the basics of not being seen rather than being some guy who calls himself an assasin but just runs around killing people in broad daylight.

I see a lot of comments of people who were worried this was going to be yet another patriotic game where the United States are shown as beyond awesome and incapable of wrongs and...
I mean where do I start? This is Ubisoft. They're from France. They are not going to make a game where they kiss the USA's ass during the whole story.

I cant think of a single game that showed America as being awesome.

modern warfare 1? US got it SH#$ kicked in, the day was saved by the BRITISH and RUSSIANS. Every american character was killed, quite brutally too.

modern warfare 2? Once again US got its butt kicked, AND were the bad guys.

Black ops? a bit closer i suppose, although every engagement with american forces turns into a colossal clusterf#$%. The only "F YEA" moments i got in that game was the russian prison break and the flashback fighting against the last remnants of nazis, so apparently it is a Russian patriotic game....

Home front? The american resistance is just a likely to kill themselves as the enemy due to incompetence. That and the american survivalists were much more evil than the occupying forces.

Alpha Protocol? Americans were the bad guy.

Vanquish? Definitely a "Russia....F YEA!" game.

(meanwhile in orbit around the space station)

Marine: this fleet, is the greatest fleet ever
Russian ships: lol lasers
(5 seconds later)
Marine: this fleet....is the crappiest fleet ever, lets smash our ship into the station out of spite.

Ubisoft are in the business of making money and making American wank fests sells, so until I learn more about the game I shall remain sceptical

You do realize the game is made by Ubisoft, a french company, and that the french traditionally don't really like the Americans that much.

Oh wait I forgot, if anything is set in America it must be super jingoistic crap dispute who made it or why because we secretly can do that somehow and for some reason.
