We cope with it by drinking.

Personally, I don't drink, but when I have the opportunity to down some margaritas, you bet your ass I do.

Find a boyfriend that just turned 21. Get him to buy it for you. Don't complain when he leaves you after you turn 21.

Much like smoking and driving, I just don't have the desire to do so. And unlike smoking (I already have enough breathing problems), I've tried drinking and driving (not at the same time) and never liked either. Alcohol is just too bitter. I'll stick to soda thank you.

I'm a very strange teenager, I know. What makes things stranger is that I'm of Irish and German decent (both large drinking countries) and a lot of people in my family are alcoholics or just heavy drinkers.

I don't drink and I never will, so the legal drinking age changes nothing for me. But seriously... Nobody obeys the legal drinking age.
Exactly this. I'm 27 in a few days and have never touched alcohol in my life. You know what? I don't feel like I've missed out on anything by doing so. I've seen the results of alcohol fueled "fun" and think it's idiotic, so I don't ever intend to participate.

How do I cope with not drinking? By enjoying life in other ways. I write, I ride my bike, I play video games, I spend time with my wife watching movies/having sex/playing games/etc., and many many other things. I like being able to remember my weekends.
So do I(well, except for the events described in the "wife" part, because I'm still a bit too young for that). In fact, I think I saw some results of "fun" just last night. I was hanging in my dorm, when I was hearing a couple of people trying to keep their friend(I guess he was a friend) standing up until he got to his dorm room. He looked to be (literally) drunk off his ass. At first, I chuckled, but then I realized something. That could be me in three years (when it's legal for me) or sooner. I don't think that I'll ever drink after seeing that and combining that with an experience with one of my roommates.

We do it anyways?

In fact we probably drink more than you
i highly doubt that.

i dont want to say that our overage drinking isnt part of our culture, because people still enjoy getting smashed here, just like any other country. I would prefer to call it something that is forced upon you, in the sense that not agreeing with teachers saying alcohol is bad is Facism.

Really it doesn't matter. I've never had any alcohol and don't plan on it. I don't see the point in destroying your liver so you can act like a dick at a party.

OP: well, instead of stating to drink when we're still living at home with our parents, we instead go off to college and house parties and drink with no regard for our own safety. When my father turned 18, my grandparents sat down with him in the kitchen and got him drunk. he learned his limits and that being drunk isn't that much fun on its own. when i started drinking, i was constantly drinking myself into a stupor and vomiting.

the question "why drink at all?" seems to be coming up a lot. i'd say that alcoholic beverages aren't much different from caffeinated beverages. Soda, Coffee, and Alcohol (tobacco too, now that i think about it) are all acquired tastes. I learned to enjoy alcohol because i enjoyed the depressant and disinhibitory effects. i can't stand coffee or soda because i never wanted the caffeine enough to put up with how horrible they taste.

I love how anti-drinking posters are always assuming that drinking=getting plastered. I have a drink or 2 a few times a week ( I usually have a beer when I get home from a long shift or while out with friends having a bite to eat ). I'm almost 30 and I've been "hammered" maybe 10 times in my life total ... and that was a while ago ... and never blacked out or anything like that... when you know your becoming intoxicated... have a bottle of water and stop drinking ... Enjoy it and don't abuse it, it's fun ...

Considering how we currently treat alchohol, of corse it's a bane. I haven't flip-flopped a damn thing. And I never said THE bain, you illiterate twit. I had merely forgotten about the potential medical advantages, and I thank the one who reminded me.
Please, do not resort to name calling, as you will be reported. I didn't call you any names, let's try to keep it civil. Now, who is the "we" you are referring to?

Why do I really need first-hand experience to understand a drunk? It's over-glamorized life-style, which means any more knowlege of the subject would actually make me dumber."Losing some favor" is inevitable. While it's true that I could stand to be more agreeable with responsible/non-drinkers, but I wouldn't want to get along with the irresponsible drinkers anyway.
I don't see being a drunk as glamorized, but then again, I live in a large city, where you cannot walk two feet without stepping over an inebriated man. And by no stretch ever would more knowledge on a subject make you dumber. I fail to see the logic in that. By your reasoning, I must be a total idiot because I drink a lot. However, this is not true. Not only do I work two jobs and make a substantial amount of money, I raise my two kids nearly full time, pay my bills/mortgage, and I am working on a script to shop around.

It isn't black and white. Not everyone who drinks is a drunk, not every drunk is stupid. Your argument places you in the category of being vehemetly opposed to drinking, and it affects your ability to see all possible scenarios, much like drinking alcohol.

The way I cope is that I don't plan on ever drinking booze. I don't see the point.

I don't see the point of drinking. I already make enough bad decisions when sober. Why the hell would I want to make my judgement even worse?
