An M rated Zelda game, could it work?

Interesting but useless fact: Twilight Princess was rated 'M' in Australia.
I'd love to see Nintendo at least give it a go. I think it could work if they take the Majora's Mask path down 'creepy-as-hell avenue', which i felt had a style reminiscent of the work of Tim Burton. People may talk about the creepy moments in OoT, but they had nuthin' on MM.
Although, to be honest, Zelda's getting increasingly stale for me. I'm sick of beating the same bloody boss and rescuing the same bloody princess, and it'd be good to see a new take on the franchise. How about letting us play as Zelda? Either pirate or ninja version will be fine.

what would you be expecting to see?
A) Swearing [X] not from link of course
B) Blood [X] probably from link with how many giant sword wielding enemies there are
C) Gore [X] mine as well go all the way with blood
D) Tits/Ass/Genitalia [] no commment.. please
E) Sex [] link wishes
F) Dark depiction of Link there's always some dark link
G) Other [X] even bigger swords?

i think it would be fun for them to try, like they could make a small dungeon that has all this (above, not all) and send it out as a download and people could rate it.

First question, do you even think an M-Rated Zelda game would work
This idea is about as good as Mickey Mouse on Bugs Bunny pornography.
Agreed. It just wouldn't work. And in answer to your second question *looks at list* uhhhhhh...Is their a none of the above option?

Nintendo wouldn't even experiment with one of their cash cows like this. Remember the outcry over Wind Waker's image change? Fans were so disgusted, it went right back to OOT-style for TP.

No.
Seriously, that would be like making M-rated Sonic, or M-rated Mario. It just wouldn't work.
It'd be hilarious, but it wouldn't work.

Sorry to be flat-out here.

ATTENTION OLDER FANS OF NINTENDO GAMES: Nintendo has and always will, make games for kids. You had no problem with this as a kid and neither do the younger generations. Sonic Unleashed, may be the worst game ever but it's got what any kid would want, running really fast + Werwolves. Please let them do their thing and market to their market, thank you and good day.

Now that this is done, I suppose it could work if Nintendo hadn't already set it up as a kids franchise.
It's not the same at all. Mario and Sonic are rated E for Everyone, Zelda is rated T for Teen. It's already only one rating away. Now having said that, I don't really think it's necessary and probably wouldn't fit, but if I can enjoy both Windwaker (childish) and Twilight Princess (much more adult), then it might be possible.

Again they don't carry swords and kill most of the creatures they meet.

I don't see why people need to force juvenile pleasures into Zelda. Why do you think it would make a better game to hear Link say 'Shit' or to have a gratuitous sex scene involving Zelda. Part of the beauty of Zelda is that it introduces a younger audience into gaming. Because of its age-accessibility it becomes a gateway game to other good single-player games. Make it M rated and its just another juvenile, violent hack and slash. It may as well be God of War then.
I agree, the important thing is to not force a rating. Either up or down, I believe that to always be true. Let the art determine the content and the content determine the rating.

a teen/mature one with blood and gore maybe but it really would lose all zelda-ness with anything more.

and nintendo don't just make games for kids! they make games for kids and grannies.

I've left this alone long enough, but I can't take it anymore. You do not make a game aiming for a certain maturity rating! It has no point! Putting unneccesary "mature" content in a game to make it look grittier and more "hardcore" only cheapens the franchise. Nintendo knows this, and that's why they will never do it. Nintendo likes the way it operates, it works for them, and they have some of the best knowledge of all of the companies in the industry of how to say "Fuck off!" when some of their retarted fanboys come to them with half-baked ideas. All of this, "A) Swearing B) Blood C) Gore
D)Tits/Ass/Genitalia E) Sex F) Dark depiction of Link G) Other H) All," DOES NOT NECCESARILY MAKE THE GAME ANY BETTER.

Nah, I would rather not see my favourite franschise getting spoiled by useless gore and swearing just to make it appeal more to 13-year olds.

Things like swearing, violence and nudity should only be added into a game if they are appropriate, for example if you're playing a game where you're a gangster then it works or something like Mass Effect where you choose your own path.

Just adding it in for the sake of making it an M-rated game wouldn't follow the LoZ's theme at all.

I think I could see a newly debuted game unreleated to the LoZ universe that takes elements from Zelda and adds in mature content.

Sorry, another nit-pick. That's not what happened. Fans were, for the most part, disappointed with WindWaker not because of it's cel-shaded art style, but because it was rushed and incomplete. And Nintendo didn't switch back to a realistic art style because the fans were pissed off at WindWaker; they did so because they wanted to make a Zelda game where you played as a grown-up Link, and that couldn't quite be done with a cartoony art style. They also did it because "many, many, many, many people asked for it," but more for the first reason.

And they do take risks with the Zelda series once in a while. That's how we got Majora's Mask and Phantom Hourglass.

no, there was an outcry about wind waker's style - it wasn't rushed at all (it was missing like one dungeon which was made up for with a ridiculous amount of replayability, awesome graphics and a great combat system)

and they did TP mainly cause people asked for it and for a grown up link - easy way to make lots of money
especially considering TP was meant to basically be a remake of OoT, and nintendo USED to actually listen to their fans (glares at sonic team and sega)
