...and at that moment I knew the game/franchise was dead.

First of all I am a console-honkie, so no mods for me.
Secondly of all, that's way too much work when I can just play another FPS that is actually good without needing someone else to fix it
There's no work really though. Just drag and drop into the game files. That's it.

Uncharted 3 when they removed the cheats. I played through 1 and 2 many times just to unlock them and dick around with them. I played though UC3 once, started again and got as far as sneaking your way to the airstrip before stopping and never getting back into it.

Biotics in general were broken in 3. For a long time, everyone in the multiplayer just played the Vanguard and spammed Biotic Charge + Nova.
True, but that only really worked in the lower difficulty levels and/or until enemies with those annoying sync-kills show up (Phantoms, Banshees, Primes and such).

I thought Destroy All Humans died when it brought out a Wii spin-off themed around a terrible Lard-Lad gimmick and replaced the voice actors for Pox and Crypto. Then Path of the Furon came out, which was the manure used to bury the corpse...

So, yeah, another bitchy thread for those that remain.

A thread about a moment in either a game or franchise that lost you.

Maybe it was a brand new mechanic, or a plot point so stupid you were done with it, or some kind of light bulb moment that you realized you just weren't having 'fun' anymore.
I reach the point of not having fun in all games before I officially complete them. It's been like this for years.

They were stunning machines no longer, you could Pull/Singularity right through shields
No you couldn't.

If the enemy had shields, biotic barrier, or armour then you were unable to pull, throw, or fling them about in a singularity. You can stun, stagger, or hold in place for a moment.

How long has it been since you played ME3, because you seem to be misremembering the game mechanics here.

As to the Ultralight Material mods. For the pistols you needed to have Leviathan installed (and other DLC for the other weapons). The only weapons to have that mod available at launch were the SMGs, great for enemies with shields but less useful in other situations.

So to have anything other than a SMG to be Ultralight, you had to wait a minimum of five months. So not really something that supports your position.

Additionally, if your definition of "gun" class is based on their weapon weight capacity, then the Sentinel became not just a Tech/Biotic hybrid in 3, but a Tech/Biotic/Combat one, since they actually had the same weapon weight class as Infiltrators and Vanguards, the highest tankiness in the game with Tech Armor, and all the powers the class is known for.
The ones I would consider to be gun based, in that the guns form a near indispensable part of their attacks, would be the Soldier, Vanguard, and Infiltrator. Essentially those who have an ammo 'power' as a default part of their powerset.

Mass Effect 3, again. Except it wasn't the ending that ruined it for me. It was the constant focus on Cerberus instead of the Reapers. I was already tired of Cerberus after the second game, and was looking forward to getting to fight reapers. Instead it was just one Cerberus mission after an another. Reapers barely even appeared in the game except on the world map, and they completely lacked any characterization.

And Kai Leng? All of his appearances made me roll my eyes. He's like Matt Miller from Saints Row, and yet somehow we're supposed to take him seriously? Urgh.

The Witcher 2 - The farthest I got was the first town where everything the game offered was a poor mans arkham asylum combat, an abysmal tutorial to introduce me with and a slow paced story I wasn't interested in that took over 80% of my game time with long drawn out cutscenes. To put it simply, I hate it.

The Witcher 3 is equally as bad but the less I say about that game the better.

Love Super Metroid, really enjoyed Metroid Prime, and then it went straight down hill for me from then on. They kept putting more focus on story and dialogue, which I knew was never going to compare to the quality of the previous games design and atmosphere. Then it just became a cartoon with even more silly idea's, because having 2 evil clones wasn't stupid enough.

Well for me their are two games, well specific points to the games.

BF1, I loved the game to start with it was fun, frantic and quite fast paced. However after playing the game for a while I have managed to level cap all the classes (quite quickly done as well) and on top of the issues with the game rearing their head I have lost all interest in the game. Cheats are a problem (and then you have the number of glitches that game has as well) and the old issue of hit detection is still very much present, they have just done a much better job of hiding it by using crap weapons. Oh and on top of this you have Dice tweaking weapons, bringing about new god weapons while nerfing weapons that have no need to be nerfed (BAR and the Martini, respectively) and on top of that a game that is already a cluster fuck of nade spam then gets a new weapon that... guess what encourages you to use more nades.

GTA5 Online, the racing in the game to be exact. I was actually doing a race today and managed to just lose while driving one of the fast modded cars in the game, I got passed on the very last very long straight of the race and was some what pissed off and then it hit me.

You spend your time and effort getting cash, doing well to earn the cash and then opt to spend it on a really fast car to help you win races, you then spend even more money moding it to make it even faster, you then enter the race and drive well, making no mistakes, keeping a good pace and holding first place all the while having your car's top speed smashed to bits by the utterly fucking broken catch up game mechanic. In essence you are getting punished for doing well, you did well to earn the cash, you did well to choose the best car, you did well to then earn more money to mod it and you then get punished in race by the busted catch up game mechanic for doing well to make it to first place. At no point in all the time I have spent playing this game and doing races had I ever thought it through like this. This game, this game type specifically punishes you at every turn for doing well at it, I turned my console off there and then and doubt I'll do any more racing again.

...Holy shit, he totally is. I now have a new way to describe why Kai Leng is so annoying beyond his special ability apparently being "makes everyone else incompetent in cutscenes".

You can turn off catch up in GTAV Online races if you're hosting the race. I haven't played in a few months, but most races that I entered had catch up turned off.

Valkyria Chronicles, when in the middle of a fairly decent tactical alternate world war 2 strategy game a magical invulnerable super waifu charged on to an already challenging battlefield with a super saiyan aura who could face-tank tank cannon shells.
I know, RIGHT? I was really enjoying Valkyria Chronicals, with its exaggerated WW2-but-not world. I could get over the the giant super tanks, and whatever, but the second it threw this weird magic lady at me, I immediately lost most of my interest in the game.

Same goes for Attack on Titan. I really enjoyed the whole us vs them vibe that the show had going on, with a cast of soldiers that would slowly die off as the titans got to them, as they tried to defend and clear this massive city from man-eating giants, but then when it was revealed that
some (if not all) titans were actually people
and my interest immediately drooped.

Oh, Japan. Can we stop with the random twists?

Sword Art Online is one for me. I reasonably enjoyed the first series of the show, despite its faults... just about everywhere, but the biggest issue that I had with the show was when they absolutely sprinted through the SAO game world in a season, and replaced it with magical elf land. I know that is how it was in the light novels, or whatever, but still: wasted opportunity.

everything related to SquareSoft. Final Fantasy and Parasite Eve being the most notable for becoming utter shit after Mr PS2 showed up at the door. And that's not to mention the series that they abandoned in that era, apparently Chrono Cross was going to have a sequel but it never happened because the whining of Chrono Trigger fanboys carries on to this day and people at the time were prasing the crap out of the piece of shit that is FFX, so they made X-2 instead. Fantastic.
You sing the song of my people.

I really just don't understand what happened to final fantasy after 9. I heard that all the talent in Square fled due to managerial interference around the time X was being developed.

Then you are lucky of the races I have taken part in over the years 1400 loses to 1350 wins, so I guess that's almost 3,000 races I would say that 90% of them have had catch up turned on. Rockstar put it as turned on by default and clearly most hosts are either twoo stupid or too lazy to turn it off.

Saying that though the fact still stands that it is a gaming mechanic that Rockstar included and works purely to punish those who are doing well. It doesn't boost those who are doing badly to get them back in to the race after maybe a simple mistake or an accident, it doesn't reward those that drive well and are only in last place because they happened to be unlucky enough to get caught in a first corner accident, it works by punishing you for doing well and that is just fucking stupid.

Apparently after the Spirits Within bombed hard the management got desperate to recoup the vast amounts of money they invested and that's how you got shit like X-2.

However, Chrono Cross had plenty of it's own issues, not related to "Not being Chrono Trigger". Plot turns into a bit of a mess after you reach Lyanne Square where the sun never sets and the large number of characters ensued you'd never to be able to give a shit about most of them. I'm not bringing up the constant "HUMANS BAD!" message the game kept trying to shove in our faces, most obnoxiously by the genocidal steam-tank operating dwarves.

Splinter Cell Conviction. It was such a dramatic departure from the conventions of the series (which admittedly consisted of very incremental changes from 1-4, Conviction being 5) that I really do have difficulty not calling it a part of the series in name only. The changes implemented make no sense whatsoever and can only be understood if you look outside the franchise to the developer's other recent success Assassin's Creed.

Oh yeah, and the story, acting and depth of gameplay were all terrible. The series started getting really hokey with Double Agent, but Conviction really cranked it up to a really overblown and shittier version of 24 whose art direction negatively impacted the gameplay.

Greed and desperation also took over too. Those two words together are a deadly combination. They took their other good properties and turned them into shit, or don't bother with them at all, just like Capcom. Or Konami. Or Sega...you know what, just like almost any major Japanese publisher these days.

EDIT:

Minor side rant, but what is up with Japanese media (Americans sometimes too) with the whole badly done Humans Are Bastards or the "Real Monsters". Most of the time it's ham-fisted, barely makes sense, and the writer(s) either come off as misanthropic or delusional, acting like they're making high quality art. If anything speaks more about them than any of the problems with human society. It's like they have something to say, but in reality the writers don't and come off as know-nothing-know-it-all, petty, try-hard teenagers shouting everyone sucks and here is why.
