No one mentioned Noein... the man that draw the fighting animations also made the best fights in Naruto. Although the above anime isn't just about fighting and the regular Naruto watching idiot may find the story hard to understand...

Also good:

Sword of the Stranger, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Soul Eater etc....

favorite anime, favorite fight:

you could also make a case for pretty much all of episode 5 but this one is definitely the weirdest and that's all that matter in FLCL.

also i'm only a little way into the arrancar arc but this is my favorite bleach fight so far.

Ichigo Vs Grimmjaw, their last one. It is nothing short of spectacular. Brilliantly choreographed and animated.
Agree. Also a second for Rock Lee vs. Gaara. I'd also add Rock Lee/Gaara vs. Kimmimaro (sp?).

But my all time favorite would probably be from Samurai Champloo with Mugen and Jin vs. Mariya "The Slayer of a Thousand Men" Enshirou. The fight was cut short when Mugen left to go fight the three crazy brothers, and it ended with
Jin pulling a Yoshimitsu harakiri cut on himself and Mariya
. Badass fight.

I'd also give it to Mugen/Ninja-Prostitute-Secret Agent vs. several dozen armed Yakuza henchmen. Mugen, without a sword, kicked nearly everyone to death, while standing on his hands for half of that time.

DBZ: Vegetto Vs. Super Buu
And before anyone bothers to try and correct me, Vegetto was the portora fusion of Goku & Vegeta, so no I didn't make a mistake. Speaking of which, his lines were hilarious.

I'm a fan of the scene in Cowboy Bebop:The Movie, when Spike is fighting the woman while dressed as a janitor. Using a broom. Against her gun. Awesome.

Alto and company kick ass and take names to the sound of May'n and Megumi Nakajima working their way through a significant portion of the Macross Frontier OST, more succinctly known as the Nyan Nyan Service Medley.

Link. [http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/macross+frontier+25/video/x95ayz_macross-frontier-25-vostfr-part-2_creation]

I've included a link but this show really doesn't deserve to be watched in anything other than HIGH QUALITY. (Bold for extra emphasis) Normally I don't (openly) advocate breaking the law but I doubt this series will ever be licensed so download for great justice.

What do I like about it? It's probably one of the most fluid space battles I've ever watched on any medium, not just anime. The soundtrack isn't bad either. All of this combines to make it enormously good fun.

Yes, they are holding a pop concert (or whatever the hell genre you want to classify it as) during a space battle. It's Complicated.

Yes, that aircraft carrier did just turn into a giant robot. We've known it can do that for about 15 episodes. Get with it.

I agree with the Cowboy Bebop ones and definitely most of the fights out of Samurai Champloo are pretty epic.

That said, I would put in a good word for most of the fights involving Shikamaru in Naruto just for the fact that they're so different from the standard anime fare, and the battles from the Devil May Cry anime are worth a mention (if only for the sheer amount of blood)

If you want an arguably failed aspect of this...

If it gets too bad, just fast-forward to 3:35. That's the whole reason the thing is worth it.
A "better" version might be...
Of course, if we're bringing up Fate/Stay Night then we really ought to bring in the visual novel version.
seeing Shiro hand Gil his own ass with a magic spell he didn't even know about a few days ago is incredibly rewarding, as is seeing him execute Nine Lives Blade Works on Dark Berserker. Realta Nua voices + CGs make the experience particularly awesome.

Incidentally, that's an unbelievably fail fansub. "koyuu kekkai"? lrn 2 english! (Also translator's notes need to lrn 2 latin)

I am glad you put "better" in quotation marks...

Why? Because they used the Japanese "Koyuu Kekkai" instead of "Reality Marble?" I'm pretty sure the English term would be lost on anyone who hasn't played the VN. I'm impressed they even tried explaining it at all, instead of just calling it a "bounded field."

And what Latin were you talking about? "Magi" as opposed to "Magus?" Seems kinda nitpicky if so.

Oooh god... this compound quote-spoiler post is really hard to read. :S

Let me have a little fun now and then.

Who says you can't provide video links?
Sure there's nothing physically stopping me but it just seemed pointless since the ones I looked at were either too low quality to really read or RN ones in Japanese. Who knows... maybe my eyesight is just worse than normal.

Sure. There is an English translation for it so they should have used it. "Koyuu kekkai" means nowt to me and probably every other English speaker I know of so it has no business being in an English translation. There's nothing wrong with "innate (koyuu) bounded field (kekkai)" (which appears to be a literal translation) in that one can instantly understand what it means and there's no need to distract the viewer with notes at the top. Or even if the notes were insisted upon, there's no reason to use Japanese anyway.
Reality Marble is the preferred term naturally but I appreciate it's not always practical to thoroughly research whatever you're subbing. (Though really, if they knew as much as they did it's actually quite impressive that they missed the official phrase.)

As for the Latin... at what point does it cease to be holding people to a high standard and become needless pedantry? It's a dead language and 2nd declension case is hardly its most challenging aspect. Really, doesn't the fact that I included it in brackets suggest it was more a humorous afterthought?

EDIT: If you still disagree with me then please just send a PM since it's not fair on the OP to talk about it in this thread.

Sorry, OP, but I couldn't find videos or decide between the following.

Any fight in Fullmetal Alchemist. The series is pretty choked in dialogue and the like (which is partially why I love it), but whenever there's a fight scene you can almost always bet it'll be a damn good one albeit short.

Tyki Mikk Vs. Allen Walker in D. Gray-Man. I would've liked to say "Any fight", but this one takes the cake. When Allen pulls out the Crown Clown full form, I just sat there and said "WHAT"

Hands down, Yusuke Urameshi Vs. Younger Toguro. Yusuke's later fights in the series against Yomi and Sensui were fantastic, but the fight with Toguro was just incredible.
