Anime never stood a chance with me due to me being exposed to Cartoon Network from an early age. To this day, I can't watch an anime without thinking "I'd rather be watching Looney Tunes right now". I loved that show...

Not to mention thinking if I ever started to like anime, I'd degenerate into one of those fans. Yeah, it's only extreme cases, but you know the ones I mean. The cushion-marrying, constant-cosplaying, dese-desu-desu ones. They make me a little bit sick.

But I think it's more the Looney Tunes thing. Seriously, have you seen it? It's simply continuous awesome.
You realize that's an incredibly small part of the anime fan demographic right?

Also I have seen Looney Tunes on CN. I honestly was annoyed by it because it meant that Gundam wasn't on.

Oh well, to each his own.

OT: Soooo what do we say to this? Try to change your mind? Make recommendations? Please tell me so I know what to do.

I. HATE. IT.

It's simply not my bag.
*looks at avatar* ...wut?

OT: I enjoy watching anime that is completely off the wall, but only if I have a craving for it. I usually get my daily insanity elsewhere.

Firstly, hatred is an extremely strong word. Use it with caution.

Secondly, anime is a medium, and like any medium it is filled with a collosal range of genres and an even greater range of quality. To dismiss an entire medium shows either obscenely discerning preferrences or simply not finding something that one enjoys. Just as Star Wars is entirely different from Schindler's List and Modern Warfare is entirely different from Cave Story, Fist of the North Star, Azumanga Daioh, Higurashi and Bo-bobobo Bobobo are all different from each other, and lumping them all together is ineffective.

Also, the claim that it all looks the same is absurdly false, so your entire argument seems really pathetic.

Ahem. It's fine with me if you don't like anime. I'd rather people simply said they disliked the style, rather than making broad generalizations that it's all gratuitous sexual exploitation and blood. As long as you can respect why some people do like anime, there's no reason for you to have any reason to like it yourself. I think it's a shame you're missing out on some great shows and films because you dislike an art style, but it's all subjective in the end.

I'll also admit that a lot of anime is bad. Like, really bad. Considering 60 percent of animation in the world comes from Japan, the amount of popular anime is really small in comparison to everything else produced. For every good anime, there's about 5 that vary between 'bad' and 'meh'. It's simply how it goes with any medium produced in such a volume, really.
It's funny, because isn't your avatar from Elfen Lied or something? An anime that was a little too eager to use gracious amounts of blood in it?

Yeah, that's not really fair since there is plenty of panzy-ass anime with little to no violence or nudity at all.

However, there's one broad generalisation that I do feel is kind of justified when it comes to anime and manga, and that is that the both of them suffer from a serious case of the TV-tropes disease.

I mean really, it doesn't really matter what anime you watch, since pretty much the entire ensemble of characters are interchangeable with any other cast of any other anime there is.

I mean how many "original creations" in ways of anime DOESN'T contain at least one of the following tropes:

The constant fuck-up who somehow manage to save the day through persistence

The aspbergers afflicted emo loner wih a quest for vengeance

That dude with the stupid haircut

That supposedly young adult girl who acts and talks like a prepubesent child

etc. etc.

I don't know, but I guess this is the main reason why I grew a little disillusioned of anime in general. Becaue after you've watched enough anime, all characters just seem to be completely unoriginal cardboard cut-outs of eachother. And I don't know why, but for some reason I feel that the obvious similariies are way more blatant and shameless than the archetype characters of western fiction.

It's like you can almost swear that whenever a "mangaka" decides to create something "new" he/she instantly thinks "Oh I gotta have a NARUTO character in this one, and a SASUKE character too, oh and also a SAKURA character to go along with the bunch!"

This is of course extremely sad in some ways, because he manga and anime cultural expressions are usually filled with fantastic and original ideas and story premises. Why can't the characters be equally unique and colourful?

Ach! (rant over) :p

I did point out I was aware it was only a few, extreme cases. But I'm the kind of person who, if they like something, they really, really like something.
Turning into that kind of fan is too big of a risk for me.

It's not for me either. It all looks/sounds the same to me too. And I have a hard time making out whats going on on the screen because of all the close ups and flashy colors and such.

That is Princess Robot Bubblegum, which lampoons and makes fun of Japanese culture.
Their culture has jumped the shark since ol' yukio mishima lolfailed his seppuku attempt.
I don't know what the shock are you talking about, so I'm just going to follow your lead.
Yes their culture is so domo arigato, Mr. Roboto. I was very surprised when Awkira Kurosawa failed at his sudoku attempt. Sushi katito Morita kadosuko!

It also gets on my nerves that a person will ignore a western animated show or film or even a live-action one and watch something anime just BECAUSE it's anime. Which, seeing as being Japanese and animated is no guarantee for quality, frankly astounds me.
I just have to respond to this one. WHAT good western animation? Outside of The Simpsons, Family Guy/American Dad (which aren't all that great, but I digress), and Transformers: Beast Wars, just what good western animated shows were you referring to? I love me some NCIS and other live shows as much as the next guy, but the quality of western animation is just...horrid. Have you SEEN what they did to Cartoon Network? And Nick-whatever? Crap like Spongebob and Blue's Clues is what turned me to anime in the first place.

There's many different examples of anime art styles being drastically different from each other, but I don't really care to find that picture.

Yadda, yadda, your opinion, I don't share it, blah blah blah.
I agree with this guy.
