Well, always like to recommend Azumanga Diaoh, but it's a hit-or-miss anime for a lot of people who don't like the gag-based stuff.

If only to help rocket it to the top of your list, Gurren Lagann. Seriously. If you're a guy, it'll make you a man. If you're a chick, it'll make you a guy, then a man. If you're a chick, and you want to remain one, it'll shrug its shoulders, and make you awesome.

I would also recommend anything by Studio Ghibli. They're also nice and family-friendly, so you can watch with relatives, and sweet, so they're a good idea for dates as well.

Neon Genesis Eva, if only to make you more sad. That'll teach you.

Spice and Wolf to balance out all that action.

I have a friend who will swear up and down that Fighting Spirit is what'll put hair on your chest, and if the manga is any indicator, it will. And it's nice to have some character development.

Grand Teacher Onizuka is just something I really enjoyed reading.

Annnnnnd...that's it for me.

Air Gear is alright, but you have to read the manga to finish it (or catch up to speed) but man the fanservice on that one...
The fanservice pales in comparison to ikkitousen *shudders*
I shall be back shortly to investigate this...
I am not joking there is a pantysot every 3 seconds in that anime...

If you do a drinking game where you drank every time there was a pantyshot you'd die from alcoholic poisoning in the first minute...
The hangover from the last two days are a true testament to this statement... @_@

Death Note. And FMA: Brotherhood is dozen times better than FMA. I had watched FMA twice before even knowing about Brotherhood, and the latter seemed a bit pointless to watch after, at first, but it's more than worth it to watch.
In my opinion FMA is way better than FMA Brotherhood. I have watched all of FMA and read all of the manga, and even though FMA: Brotherhood syncs up directly with the manga I find it too goofy. It has sacrificed a lot of the meaning for more traditional anime routes, which I don't like.

Read FMA manga and stick to the original FMA anime.

Also, watch FLCL it is loads of fun for only 6 episodes.

I heartily recommend Kino no Tabi, or, Kino's Journey. It's fucking awesome.

Also Gunslinger Girl is great.

Hmm. I like Lucky Star too, but that one is really not for everyone it seems. Although, I've only watched all of these with subs, but I dunno, maybe the dubs are good too.

Anyone have a go at Moribito?
It was on adult swim for a wee bit and then disappeared. I believe it's the most well animated series to date.
The characters are realistic, makes fantastic use of CG, and the world is well fleshed out. I've only seen the first episode from Hulu though...
I've seen it and it's pretty damn good. There are a couple of times when the show really drags though. But it does have a great setting.

I would say that Balsa is one of the greatest female anime characters I've ever seen, but then this show is based on a series of novels so I don't know if that counts.

Me? I'm watching the original. I've heard OVA isn't that good...
ive watched both the original and the OVA, the ova i find is a hell of a lot better than the original

Fuck dubs. Subs are much better; less is lost in translation and dubs zlways have inferior voice acting to the original.
You dont think just as much is lost in the subs? You would have to be an idiot to actually believe that its identical to the japanese version. Something is always lost in translation regardless of wether it is dubs or subs, infact dubs would more then likely be more accurate because of who is doing them. Besides that the rediculously high pitched voices in most subs make me want to kill somebody.
Clearly if you read I said "LESS is lost in translation". I am well aware that until I learn Japanese it will never be perfect.

Subs tend to be literal translations of whatever is said: although this can be pretty jarring to read as it may have many more syllables in the english version, there is a lot of lee-way for sentences that don't really fit (as we can read faster than we can talk), whereas with dubs they want to alter the animation as little as possible, so they have to jam the words into equal length sentences, which often goes horribly wrong:

As many have said, when a dub goes wrong, it goes WRONG. And without exception, the voice-acting in dubs is always worse (though you never contested that).

Naoki Urasawa : Monster

a psycholycal, murder mystery
having the best anime where a really looked at the world around me
and it seems that everyone in nature is evil
its so much grounded in realisim that you actualy are afraid just at the mention of the main villian
the main vilain of the anime is imo the best and f*cking scariest vilain in anime
he's just perfect...
if you want to watch it for free on dub here the link (its on youtube and its free ^_^ )

http://www.youtube.com/show/monster

the only complain anyone can have about this is that its LONG
but every episode is amazing
from the main caracther to every day people have so much life and caracther to them you actualy believe they are real people (even though its an anime)

i HIGHLY recommend it if you like horror/mystery/psychology on the mind and of the human race
