I think it's good that the birth rates are dropping, I personally think that human population should really stop growing by now or else we will lay just to much weight on the planet itself.

While a majority of children annoy me and most people, you should realize that is usually the parent who does not discipline the child right. I think that a certain group of parents, in this day and age, just fail at raising their children and that's really the problem in my eyes. I don't hate the children but damn do I hate stupid parents.

Brat bans? Really?

To be honest, that sounds absolutely pathetic.
Imagine scenario:
You have just paid for yourself and your date to go to an expensive restaurant (not some family restaurant), you have paid plenty for your food and drinks and then a family comes in. They have a small child / baby. No problem. But within 5 minutes, it starts screaming and crying, the parents try to shut it up, it is two tables away, you can hear it clearly. The parents attempts are futile, as they normally are. They stay there for the duration of the rest of your date. You listen to screaming that entire time. Would you be happy with the management of this classy restaurant for allowing this?

Same idea goes for first class on trains and planes.
I have been in a situation similar to this, and in that scenario, the management intervened. They were asked to go outside for a bit, not to leave (at least thats what I assume, because they returned a few minutes later). Needless to say, it cleared up the problem. Then again, while the kid was hollering, I was more focused on my date and it registered as background noise. I only noticed when it stopped.

Child bans aren't necessary. It only serves as convenience for oversensitive prudes. The rest of us can manage just fine, tyvm. Besides, mom's have it hard enough as it is. Now you people want to limit where they can enjoy a meal when their kid needs constant supervision?

In case it's hard to tell, I absolutely loath children. I'm all for the "brat bans" and would take it so much further if I could. I do not plan on ever having kids and decided that when I was very young. I'm anti-baby and anti-children, though not simply because they scream and carry on in public, there's a deeper reason. I'm also anti-parents who couldn't care less about their screaming child. For all those who wish to argue "It's different when you have a kid", there's a reason I don't have a damn kid.
With all due respect OP, you're 19, it's possible you may change your mind when you're order, I'm that age too and most of my friends currently don't intend to have children.

OT: Here's a quote from one of the links that sums up my views nicely:

"I can't believe how many people (who, of course, were once children) refer to them as beasts, monsters, creatures who need to be "controlled" rather than simply the young people they are. And I'm sure the same people who are crying foul over the "child obesity crisis" are the ones suggesting McDonalds and Chuck E Cheese...

Replace the word "child" here with a color, ethnicity, sex, sexual
orientation and it suddenly has a bitter taste to it, doesn't it?"

This is discrimination, pure and simple, and the only reason it is accepted is that children are unable to defend themselves. Sure if you don't want kids yourself that's fine, however shame on anyone advocating "child-free zones". I condemn you in the strongest terms possible and say if you treat all children as being exactly the same, that makes you no better than a racist or a sexist.

This may well be against the Equality Act 2010 in the UK, which protects against discrimination due to age.

It's funny. I work with kids all day and while I understand that yes, kids can be annoying, I generally find them still much more... eh let's say mature than the majority of adults I deal with.

I find it disheartening that kids, who haven't had as long of time to develop moral and logical reasoning as adults get "banned" from let's say a restaurant but I can still watch a full grown adult in that same restaurant whine to the waiter/manager that his bill is too high simply because he neglected to either read the price on the menu or add it up properly.

We blame kids for acting like monsters but once the reach some arbitrary age then all that douchebaggery gets re-branded as "thrifty" or "skilled manipulator" or "charismatic". Adults possess all the same traits as kids yet we value them as adults and undermine them as kids? Interesting.
Yup it's pretty lame, especially when you consider that these 'child-haters' had to have been children themselves once. It's about as rational as kids giving their elders crap about how old they are, unless they're planning to live fast die young and stick to that.

over population is only a problem in places like Africa, India and China, places like japan are having the opposite problem. and in a very many places that over population is a problem it's ofter a cultural thing, like how in both china and India males are preferred to females, so in china families might try to get rid of baby after baby until they get a son, and in India they JUST KEEP HAVING KIDS until they get a son, things would even out if each couple only had 1-2 children, but you could easily have a couple having 3-6 which is a problem when every other couple is having 3-6 kids as well.
One among many good reasons why gender equality is so important.

I get a kick out of this kind of thing.

I hope you were equally despised in your youth. Hating children is utter hypocrisy. Hating SHIT PARENTS, on the other hand...

Wait, as far as I recall, the US is still a country troubled with a rising birth rate no matter what right? So who cares if less people are having kids if we're not at a dangerously falling birthrate level. The way I feel is that, there are far more children who are already living and will have awful lives, so adopting is a good alternative I think.

As for the brat ban thing, try working in brooklyn heights with all the rich stay at home moms, or as we'd say Stroller Brigade. Coronas, children fucking shit up, and no tip. Besides that, I think it should be noted that children shouldn't be allowed everywhere, and restaurants should be well within their rights to enforce these rules of all, because nothing can ruin a good atmosphere like children can. Of course if the age on it is set too high, then it will be bad, but I think in the 0-8 range, they don't really need to be sampling gourmet. If it's too invasive, then just let restaurants make a firm policy, if the child annoys everyone, we'll throw you out.

I honestly don't see this as being a large issue in America and actually think too many things are still catered to the idea of "what if there are children around?" I mean, for about 3/4ths of a human life, they aren't children, yet people still need to deal with things being banned (corporately or otherwise) for being 'unsafe' for children. I mean, I still need to enter my age for verification on the web, I somehow thought that after I passed 18, that the computer would stop fucking asking me, because it should know that I bought it and have no children and would never let a child near it.

Gee that all sounds great! Because, you know...its not like we've all seen this thread a MILLION times before. I also find it awful that you want to alienate children from so many places. Is it because you feel children are annoying , loud, screaming morons? Because that is a generalization and its something you should avoid doing, lest you want to look like a fool. Yes, there are many MANY annoying screaming children, and you know why? Because they're children. And that's what children do. I'm not saying I approve of parents sitting there doing nothing, but it is not like they can just flip and switch to make the child stop screaming, and just choose not to. Also did you use the term "anti babie/child society"? You do know that babies and children are needed to make future generations, right?

In short:you're thread is bad and you should feel bad.

If people want to remain childless, good on them, esp if they dislike kids. But really, shut up making a fuss about disliking them and trying to ban them from everywhere, more childish than the bloody child.

I'm not really pro- or anti-children and I can see benefits to having no children but at the same time if too many people choose to not have kids there will be negative consequences. The average population age would rise drastically and there wouldn't be as many young people to take the jobs that older people can't. In addition, having too many older people would put a lot of pressure on the population as taxes would have to rise to pay for state pensions.

I had a problem with this paragraph. Not all children are brats. Saying that is like saying all black people steal stuff. I'm just tired of people assuming that because I'm thirteen, I'm some immature, unintelligent brat.

Maybe people are just adopting more? I doubt it, but playing a bit of devil's advocate here. You just said that birth rates are low, not family rates.
And it's probably a good thing. We are overpopulating like a ***** at the moment.

Yeah, I don't really agree with fertility treatment on the NHS, all the time orphanages still have kids in need of a home. People need to get over this obsession with childbirth, just get one ready made, you're saving yourself a lot of pain, and the world another unwanted child.

As I was reading this thread my two year old came up and said "I love you daddy". Yeah you go on with not having children. Good for the kids you won't have. But for me and my 3 kids, fuck off with banning me places. I want to make places where people with kids aren't allowed. A big fuck you as it were.

And to the overpopulation folks, that is really only in 3rd world countries. You know if every person were to make a small garden in their homes/apartment, there would be no problem with food. Just pointing out something I've felt for a long time.

Alright back to watching DBZ with my kids.

Brat-bans? Are you kidding me?? I don't like women with high pitched voices who talk a lot or people bitching in public places. How about we ban them too? Brat-bans is perhaps the worst idea I've heard this.. well, this month.

I think you're exaggerating it all. The population is still increasing at a dramatic rate. I wouldn't call it an anti-child society at all.

I wouldn't want a kid primarily because I think that they are a lot of work and also I don' t think I would be a good parent, so it would probably be for the benefit of my potential child if he (or she) didn't come to be.

That said, I wouldn't support some kind of 'brat ban' because I think that that in itself is childish enough. We shouldn't generalise all children and only think of them as equals when they have gone around the Sun an arbitrary amount of times.

In the United States today, fewer and fewer births are occurring. The birth rate is lower than in the time of the great depression. There are several different explanations/theories for this: 1) Times are tough, cant afford kids 2) More frequent use of contraception 3) (perhaps the biggest of all) Adults do not want to have children.

There are many couples who choose to live childless by choice. There are adults who want to enforce "brat bans" on public places like restaurants, shopping centers, and on airplanes. There has actually been a ban of children and babies from a first class cabin on one airline and children are only allowed to ride in coach.

My question is this: What do you think is the cause of this anti-child/anti-baby society?

In my opinion, I believe people are starting to finally break away from the social conformity that comes with having a child. People are expected to reproduce at some point in their lives and not doing so usually carries a great stigma to it. I think the faster we can get over this stigma, the faster we can build a better society where people can choose to live the way that they want.

In case it's hard to tell, I absolutely loath children. I'm all for the "brat bans" and would take it so much further if I could. Wow so you want to usher in a society were people can choose to live the way they want by banning a specific lifestyle from as many places as you can. In my opinion you have just lost the right to be taken seriously.

I have children 5 in fact and while I am not specifically against banning children from high class restaurants, I would instead rather have parents realize that if their kids can't act a certain way a specific place dictates they should it is rude to take their kids there anyway.

Banning kids from random public places just because you don't have the self control to turn the other cheek when kids are involved is just stupid.

Also good luck trying to turn a certain group of people into second class citizens when they are the ones raising the next generation.
