Anyone outside the US that bothered about Captain America?

Only heard about the character when I heard about the movie. Seen a few bits of the comic since and can't say I like what I've seen ("Surrender? Do you think the letter on my forehead stands for France?") Don't care, won't watch. Swedish btw.

I never liked him.

I'll still watch the movie though.
I don't like Superman either for what it's worth. All of those figure head heroes are kinda boring and never interested me.
I was always more a fan of the "cool guy" heroes and the "nerd becomes hero" heroes. Cool guy because I wanted to be a super cool guy and nerd heroes because I was a nerd.

I know only a little about the character. I remember seeing an adaptation when I was younger. I enjoyed it. Shooting and beating up Nazi's is good fun. I am from the UK and don't really have an issue.

Looks like a fun, mindless film to watch.

Capitan Britain on the other hand sounds awful. With his powers of queuing and rapid cups of tea making! XP.

For the record this IS NOT a rant about America or WW2 i am well aware that without them Britin could not have lasted much longer than we did and i know alot of American's died as well.
Actually Germany didn't have enough resources to continue with the war it was only a matter of time before Britain won, the Americans courageously joining the fight was the last nail in the coffin, the Germans had essentially screwed themselves over attacking Russia and they were fighting on two fronts.

I think your being a bit silly about Captain America tbh. It's probably becuase he hasn't, understandably, had much coverage over here in the UK. I'm willing to give him a chance though mostly becuase I'm amused by his propagandaness. I also love the war time style in the trailers. I would say just give the film a chance maybe you will like it.

In your defence, Captain America hasn't had a good history of movies. He had one in the 1944 that was considered good (haven't seen it but going by IMDB) and 3 others afterwards that were a stack of poo-poo pancakes.

However, Captain America is considered one of the iconic superheroes of Marvel. He's like Batman with a military budget and fewer need gadgets because he relies mostly on the shield. I think the movie will be good.

I'm Canadian, and haven't read the Captain America comic books. I know very little aboot him other then he fights Nazis and Aliens and sometimes Nazi aliens. I'm as excited for his movie as I am excited for any other comic book super hero movie. I'll wait like a year and watch it for free on basic cable.

That being said, at least Britain gets mentioned in Hollywood's WWII movies and WWII Video games. Seriously, when was the last time I've seen Canada mentioned. Call of Duty 3. Which was the worst one.

I live in New Jersey, so all we really have is Kevin Smith and Bruce Springstein. Captain America as a hero is awesome, and the movie looks awesome too. I think its just because I live in the USA that makes him cool. Other than Union Jack or Captain Canada, I cant really think of a country specific Super Hero!

I'm Canadian and I still want to see this movie regardless of nationality or time period. I just really like Marvel comics and the movies they make.

I prefer Flash Gordon, who, as you may know, stands for everyone of us.

But seriously, this film looks like it might be fun enough to see in the cinema, so let's-a go!

O.T. Yep, because I like Captain America. I ignore the whole 'Go America!' part, because he's a very flawed character and weak compared to the others. There are so many good stories to be had with people like him and Iron Man, who aren't invincible (Despite the name of the Iron Man comic series) and aren't perfect (despite the pretence with Captain America).

Cap is a nerd that becomes a hero.

I'm English and I think the film actually looks quite good, with lots of things I'd hope to be in this sort of film with this character and set where it is, I hope it goes well but the main thing that gets me is that in the most recent trailer (which is good) it lists loads of good things and one of the things is "American" not that this is bad but it sort of alienates the rest of the world as an audience.

I guess I feel the same way toward the character. I never really liked him all that much but then I never read any of the comics or watched any shows or anything like that. The only thing related to him was an episode of an X-men cartoon showing wolverines past. He was fighting in WW2 with Capt. America and ended up saving a young P.O.W that would become Magnetto. It was pretty cool but not because of Captain America.
But the movie does look pretty good, and I think the Avengers movie will be really good so I do want to see the Captain America movie before that comes out. And the Thor movie, still haven't seen that either and I also never really liked the character of Thor all that much either.

As a Briton, I think the Captain America trailers look awesome.

I don't care that he's American, I care that he uses a shield as an offensive weapon, as real men should.

Like Captain Britain(Marvel)?

And Red Star(DC Comics)?

He's a superhero, so whether I like him depends on how he's being portrayed. He might have started off as a crappy propaganda tool but he's beyond that now. Not sure if I'll see the film.

The thing to remember is that Captain America was a character made in the 1930's when brash patriotism was a-ok, especially when you had threats as serious as the Nazi's, imperial Japan and the Soviet Union.

From what i've heard, it seems like the writers behind the character have made a good turn by making Captain America about American ideals (liberty, freedom etc)rather than just simply about America the nation-state. Anyone can relate to the above mentioned ideals, making Captain America a good character rather than just a piece of propaganda.

The theme for this movie is not to glorify America. At least not primarily, or even a little bit. From what I can tell, the theme is to be that a weak man who can become strong is the best in the world. Or something to that effect. I think your just focusing on the whole America part too much.
