But they have 125238527908357290729183 gaming apps for ipod and ipad....

Totally agree with you though. I have a Linux based OS to be my SO SRS operating systems, and windowz to be my gaming system.

Apple is an okay company, even though I really don't like them. Granted, They have several reasons to stay in business, but Most Apple fans I have met around mis-informed about their products and very biased against other computers.

This shows that investors have more confidence in Apple growth than Microsoft. Which makes sense since from the Wall Street standpoint, Apple has the iPad and a new iPhone coming out whereas Windows has Windows 7 and new Windows Mobile, which are fantastic, but unfortunately are not as physically tangible as an iPad. But this has been a trend for the last few years and Apple has been continuously successful in their hardware. Windows on the other hand, makes great software to the point of monetary stagnation.

Strictly from an investing standpoint, Apple REALLY has it going on right now.

lol this battle has been going on for quite some time. Bill and Steve have been back stabbing each other since the 80s
And it made such a GREAT documentary. :p
It's just the same boring shitty hardware though, either made bigger or smaller. Ipad is just a big iphone touch, ipods are just resizes of the originals, and they all use the same ballocks software. Where as windows is continually bringing out new originality and usability and features built in, while apple relies on third parties making all the apps for their hardware etc.

In the long run windows will still be here long after apple is dead and gone.

Yeah but middle aged women and vegetarian indie kids will buy anything that looks good and advertises on ease of use so they don't actually have to understand how it works.

I know, I know, but handheld gaming has just never really caught on with me. I got a Gameboy SP back in the day, and never owned more than three games for it.

Excellent choices, by the way, if I was smart enough to run Linux and/or dualboot/had the kind of scratch necessary to compile two PCs, I'd do the same.

Microsoft has always been a closed software platform, but they never tried to wrest as much control over the hardware platform as Apple does. For that I intensely dislike Apple.
Indeed, nothing worse than being stuck with quite frankly disgusting inferior hardware and no custom upgrade options or ability to build from scratch.

Indeed, I've got Linux on my Eee PC laptop because it loads up in seconds and quite frankly works a lot better than windows on that kind o system, especially since it's used for office stuff etc.

Quite the same here. Thank you for a more concise and intelligible phrasing than I've been trying to bang out.

Does pressing a button to make a fart noise still qualify as a game? I guess I need to lower my standards.

I kid, I kid.

Honestly, I see apple as the leading creator of fads. They create aesthetically desirable gadgets and through appealing to a less tech saavy audience, they have earnt a lot of money.

I however dislike their focus on aesthetics and particularly their unwillingness to cooperate with other companies in order to make things easier for the user.

Microsoft seems to produce consistantly usable products that will never become unused because they are no longer 'trendy'. You don't see all that many people who know a good deal about computers and tech using macs, I can tell you that.

I was actually being sarcastic about the ipod/ipad thing haha. Most people don't have tons of exposure to Linux, so it can be really daunting at first. I grew up on an ancient UNIX box, so Linux is second nature to me. But if you get into the community, it's full of people willing to help. If you want to, look into something called Knoppix, you can mount it right to your Windows, and run it as a mounted OS just to get the feel of it, or run it as a distinct OS of itself.

If you want to check it out, here's a link http://www.knoppix.net/ it's rather neat, I think. Allows people to play with a Linux OS without having to partition drives, or anything.

You know OS X is a UNIX derivative, right?

Hmm, that's interesting, I may have to check that out. Thanks for the tip!

I couldn't care less as long as this doesn't mean that I have to switch. I am a well entrenched PC user.

Great day for the tech industry.
Well, the stocks are up. That's true.
Let me know when Apple has the 80% market share for computers instead of Microsoft.
Then I'll be impressed.

Bah, I actually prefer Microsoft. The Zune is way cooler than the iPod (admittedly, very few developers for it, but Zune Pass is sweet, and I prefer the Zune interface). PCs are better than Macs. And the Xbox is better than nothing I guess.
