I'm 18 years old. I just finished high school and had schoolies, which for those from outside australia, it's a celebration of leaving school where friends book a house on the coast, get lots of alcohol and party for an ENTIRE week: usually most people from the same school go to the same place, so we all know each other.

I came back from schoolies as I left: a virgin. I don't see it as a big deal, but most of my classmates (i.e. not virgins) see it as a sign of complete social ineptitude (which is fairly accurate: I have mild asperger's) and/or pussiness.

My parents raised me to be respectful. At schoolies I had plenty of chances to have sex for the first time, but I knocked them all back, because the girl in question was considerably drunker than me. I know people in my class that would have taken advantage of the opportunity to "score", a term which in itself is objectifying women.

Never say chivalry is dead.
good on you! i went to many parties after i left high school and during, where i could have "scored" (eugh! horrible word) with drunk girls but i always said no as i have respect for them and myself. and it will pay off, i have been in a relationship for three years now (in fact the reason we got together was because she made all the moves, i was too polite to force my hand) and i believe that goes to show that if you find the right person then they will appreciate the chivalry and genuine kindness.

all is not lost!

I myself try to be a gentlemen. As far as social status goes, I never went to parties or anything like that, and am still a virgin (I am currently 19). I try to be courteous to everyone, and also tend to be more polite to females than I am to males.

So yes, as someone said, chivalry is not dead.

that's just being a dick. To clear things up, what do you mean by "gentleman", being polite, treating women differently?

Gentlemen are:
a) Already taken by women who are mature enough to realize what a real man should be.
b) Reclusive because they're sick of being rejected by women who are stupid and chasing the bad boy type.
c) Now a total dick because they're sick of being rejected by women who are stupid and chasing the bad boy type.

I say, what a disgrace!
Here, have my spare. A gentleman should never be without his monocle

Women, for the most part, are fickle. You cannot demand equal rights and then expect things to stay the way they were. It doesn't happen.
Freud could answer every question put in front of him except one. "What do women really want?" Think about that.

Gentlemen are dead because women who like gentlemen are dead. Pretty much natural selection. Guys might become gentlemen if they particularly care about a girl, but other than that, no chance

while i am appalled at the story i do have something to add, yes to an extent women do like you being a bit of a dick but just mix it up a little with some good ol' chivalry

Thought about it, don't really see the connection, I stick with my opinion on the matter.

I guarantee most of the people here posting "Gentleman but haven't been on a date forever!" haven't had a long hard look at themselves mentally and physically.

Solve your own problems instead of whining like little kids.

Are you sure they were a couple? Sounds like something a girl would do on a 1st date. She assumes he'll pay, so she doesn't bring her purse. If he doesn't pay, he doesn't get a 2nd date... unless his personality really makes up for it.

d) too dull to win a woman's heart.

Other than missing that last one, good answer.

eugh. i see rudeness like that often. not just from men either. from all sorts. the idea of common courtesy seems obsolete sometimes.
one thing about england that does impress me though, is that everybody seems to want to hold the door open for you. I quite like that, and I've started trying to do the same thing.
i could be all moany and complaining like most females about all of the gentlemen in this world being gone, but since a) that's not true, and b) i'm a fairly rude person a lot of the time myself, it would be a pathetic thing to moan about. :p
