Are There Any Pokemon That you Frequently Use, Even Though They're Horrible?

I barely play Pokemon to be honest; it only seems to hold my attention for short bursts of time. But when I do:

Vulpix every time! For obvious reasons, damn that thing's cute.

Cubone as well, just because I think he looks cool. The idea of wearing the dead mother's skull intrigues me and, as with most things Pokemon, is slightly morbid when you think about it too deeply.

Banette and/or Dusknoir.

Neither are Pokemon I will be winning any serious battles with, but I just have a thing for the Ghost type. Dusknoir is usually only obtainable post-game, so Banette has to make do until then (if he is available at all)

This topic needed more pictures for those of us who never moved past the first or second gen :c

I dont remember whether they got better, but the second generation games gave you the choice of that sheep pokemon, or the water/electric tadpole pokemon if you wanted an electric. They were awful, yet stuck in my party for so long on merit of wanting to cover my bases...

Wow, some of these Pokemon that people think are terrible are actually way up there in stats.
Anyhow, I personally always have a Furret in my party, I basically use it to replace the starter.

Oh God, Pigeot (can't remember spelling) or equivalents in other generations. Early on I always had a simple flying type that would be used purely to fly from city to city and would never swap it out for a better pokemon, even if I have a better flying type in my party. I just didn't want to waste a valuable space on the moves list for a purely convenience-based move.

I used Golduck and Ampharos in my team in BW2. Neither are that impressive stat-wise or anything but I just like them =)

Although Ampharos did make for a suprisingly good tank in the Elite Four. Cotton Guard to buff up defence a ridiculous amount, Confuse Ray to be a troll, then Thunberbolt and something else to attack. His static ability meant most opponents never got the chance to attack since they were either confused, paralysed or both and even if they did, it would be a pathetic amount of damage.

I've been using Ampharos in B2 too, and it's pretty good. T-Wave and Confuse Ray troll everything hard and Electoball would do serious damage with the paralysis. Never expected it to work but it's not bad at all.

I can't believe the people saying Ampharos, she has one of the highest (if not the highest) special attack stat for electric types! The other stats aren't too bad considering either.

Anyway, in either White 1 or Black 2, I tried using an Alakazam, but the damn thing jut couldn't take a hit. What's weird is, in previous games I was able to use one quite successfully.

Besides that, well, I tend to keep the starter bird in my party (got rid of it as soon as I could in W1/B2 though).

I have a very big soft spot for Articuno, the absolute WORST of the legendary birds, and one of the worst legendary Pokemon ever.

I love keeping an Abra on me at all times (or Kadabra for that matter). He's my favorite Pokemon, and I always thought of him as the quintessential Psychic Pokemon. Also, I'm a big fan of Teleport superpowers.

I will also tend to grow fond of Pokemon I carry with me from the beginning of a game, particularly Caterpie/Geodude evolutions.

Despite hating Bidoof/Bibarel, I actually have them in my party as a Water-type substitute or an effective HM slave (Waterfall, Cut, Rock Smash & Rock Climb).

Poliwrath is always used, because he's utterly awesome. I've always had once on my team where possible since Red and blue. I also love heracross.

I love Lanturn. Its stats are way too low to be a major threat to anybody, but Water/Electric typing plus Volt Absorb, on top of that wonderfully annoying Thunder Wave/Confuse Ray combo and (ridiculous synergy with Politoed), is just too much fun... plus it's just so damn cute.

I also like Leavanny, at least in the early game, for no particular reason at all. I like having a relatively strong and fast (at that point) pokemon who can use both Leaf Blade and X-Scissor... its come in shockingly handy, but I usually end up abandoning Leavanny for better pokemon at some point.

I love to run Absol and Umbreon, but just can't find movesets that work well for them. Absol has great attack and some sweet slash moves, but is too slow and frail to really use them, and Umbreon... I think game freak just hates Umbreon. It started out pretty sweet, solid defensive stats, the best movepool and Special Attack stat among Dark types (which was greatly significant in G2), access to Snatch, Taunt, Crunch, Mean Look and Perish Song... but now I look at what Umbreon has been through and it makes me sad (I mean come on GameFreak, hidden ability INNER FOCUS? you give Espeon Magic Bounce and you can't even give poor old Umbreon something useful? not even Prankster? And don't even get me started on the logic behind giving it Synchronoise... It's almost as sad as Flareon).

I use Hoot-Hoot for a while in the Gold games, I'm not sure if you would say Ampharos is bad, but I use it a ton. I use Haunter when I can despite my inability to evolve it, and I think Crawdaunt is pretty cool.

One Pokemon I've never been able to actually find within the games is Milotic. I want a shiny one.
Trade a Feebas with a Prism Scale, otherwise I'm not sure you can find one in game. Nevermind, just looked it up and apparently you can find them on Route 1 in both White/Black and White/Black 2, but you have to use the Super Rod in the rippling water for them to have a chance at appearing. As for the shiny form, male and female Milotic are slightly different in appearance so...hope you don't mind fishing for 2 shinies!

OT: Dunno why, but I've always liked Flareon. However....those stats....those moves......

Bleh.

Personally, I always find myself using Ledian. His stats are mediocre, his typing is bad, and his moveset isn't great, but I can't help but love the little guy. He always made me think of a Power Ranger crossed with a bug.

So, are there any sub-par Pokemon that you use simply out of favoritism?

Captcha: "hear me roar!" No, Captcha, don't! You'll make all the wild posters flee.
We all have that favourite bug mine is Beedrill.

Beedrill is pretty terrible in almost every way. When I was a little kid in school everyone had a Butterfree, I tried to be a bit different and had a Beedrill. By the time I discovered how crap it was, it was too late. It was a high level and I was stuck with it.

One point in its favour is it's look, it is a cool looking bug pokemon, he was also useful against Alakazam spammers.

You're kidding, right? At the very least it's one of the best against Dragons, which is pretty useful when so many pseudo-legendaries and legendaries are part-Dragon type. In the original Gen. in particular, Ice Beam was the easiest and most effective way to completely wreck Lance, while Zapdos and Moltres had utterly awful starting moves. Fire Spin may have been broken in the first games, but it was weak as hell, and Thundershock and Drill Peck? Sure he learned Thunder the next level after you caught him, but that had an abysmal hit rate.

Maybe Articuno hasn't scaled as well with the more recent generations, I don't know, but it's at least no worse than the stupid Regice from Gen. III, apart from having no resistance to its own typing.

OT: I've got level 75 Pikachu on my bench in SoulSilver, but it's holding a Light Ball. The thing is squishy as hell, but it's fast too, and if it gets to hit first there's a good chance it'll be a one-hit KO.

Other than that, I always liked Haunter's design more than Gengar's. It's pretty lol-worthy to beat Agatha's Gengar with an underleveled Haunter. He's not "horrible" either, though...

I dunno, I can't really think of any. I guess a lot of people consider Absol to be pretty bad, and I like him.
