It's probably been mentioned already, but Gruntilda from Banjo Kazooie, and then her sisters Blubelda and Mingella (I don't remember their names) from the sequel definitely count.

Every Silent Hill game except The Room and Shattered Memories but I don't think Shattered Memories really had a antagonist.

Jedi Acadamy, Kotor II. Gears of War has a female as main villain too, though you don't fight her in the first two games.

EDIT: Oh and above me is a spambot. For a webiste about a medium that uses psycic blind and deaf people to find love.

How romantic.

So i was wondering this , after thinking about batman, in Arkham assylum , the Joker is the main villain , but he has 'supporting' female villains ( Harley quinn and poison ivy ) .

So my question is:

Are there any Video games where the MAIN villain of the game is female?

also for discussion value , would you like to see more female villains ( main villains or supporting villains ) in video games. Do you think it could add to video game story telling? Why do you think the 'bad guy ' is most of the time a male ?
What I'm interested in is how many HUMAN female antagonists there are, that do not fall into the femme fatale or psycho category. It's funny how an evil woman is more or less presumed to be wicked/ twisted in some way. Either a nympho/ cock tease or a witch of some sort....but always a headcase. Why is that?

Once, just once...I'd like to see a believable human female antagonist...one that is not crazy (at least...not outright...for the sake of crazy) or over-sexualized.

I think borderlands, though I wasn't really paying attention for the hundred hours I've played it.

I've never completed the following game, so correct me if I am wrong but... Parasite Eve.

Also, pretty much every metroid game... I still haven't played the FPS metroids, but all the sidescrolling metroid games have females as the main antagonist. mother brain, metroid queen, etc.

Mega Man Legends 2 had Sera as the final boss. She tries to destroy the human race because she's jealous that Mega Man was favored by the creator of the planet... I think. If I understood the story. Mega Man lost his memory at some point so he doesn't understand the story either.

Technically, I would say that James Sunderland, the protagonist of Silent Hill 2, is also the primary antagonist of that game. However, the final boss of that game is the manifestation of his wife's pain... so... final boss is female. Some people might say Mary is the main villain. *shrug*

In the original Silent Hill, primary antagonist is Dahlia and the final boss is either a female or a goat headed hermaphrodite...

In Silent Hill 3, I would claim that Claudia is the primary antagonist and the final boss is... female? Has a female face...

Origins and Homecoming didn't have females as the main antagonists either. And as I stated in my post (I posted about Silent Hill then saw you had posted about it too), I don't think that Silent Hill 2's main antagonist is Mary, even though she is the final boss. James is fighting himself through the entire game, and the boss commonly referred to as "Mary" is really just a manifestation of his evil, of his wrongdoings.

I'm sorry. I don't know how to do the SPOILER cover up thingys in the forum. Someone could totally respond to my post with instruction so I don't spoil AWESOME GAMES in the future. (just saiyan...)

Wow, 9 pages and probably 50 posts saying Portal... 40 saying KOTOR II... 30 saying Starcraft: Brood war.

Anyway, adding to the discussion, how about Alan Wake? I might classify the main villain as non-gendered, but then again it prefers to appear as a female.

I think the point is well made. They are many female final bosses in games. I would say most bosses are groups or genderless entities, but when it comes down to gender females are (if not equally) nicely represented in game villains.

(Also, Sarah Kerrigan was not the antagonist in Brood War. If anything, she was the protagonist. I don't think I spent an hour and a half fighting off half the galaxy on a space platform for Jim Raynor... no, it was for Sarah.)

I believe it is because as character development goes, the idiots that write this shit for games struggle with making women anything but 'THE BADASS PSYCHO *****' 'THE UPTIGHT AND IN NEED OF A PORKING' and (drumroll please) 'THE DAMSAL IN DISTRESS', and most of these don't work as primary antagonists.
