Wow most people are 'pretty good'...
Guessing from these kinds of threads most people here also are really well trained, know all kinds of martial arts, drink like irishmen and have crazy amounts of sex.
I guess the Escapist is just really lucky that way.
Well, what you just said, perfectly reflects me. I do MMA and when I don't have a fight coming up, I try to drink like an Irishman, I'm not sure if I do however as I usually can't remember it. As for sex, I wouldn't say crazy amounts as I am faithful to my gf but I have my fare share. I also enjoy playing video games, which explains my presence here.
Seriously, calling people liars is really not very nice. Personally, I trust everyone here on the Escapist and perhaps you should too... just a suggestion.
Good for you.

I'm just observing that most replies to threads like this usually are hard on claims and low on evidence.

Never held a gun in real life. Australia has extremely low gun deaths for a reason... namely no one really has any. If we were on a Paintball field however, I would rape you. Last time I went we played a full day:

My Score:
9 kills / 1 Death / 2 Flags / 1 Pilot rescued

Kills of course being how many people I shot and Deaths being how many times I got shot.
You could always join a rifle club if you wanted to!
My experiences with paintball were rather horrible...the damn things couldn't fly without veering off unpredictably.

Which is why people who are good with guns aren't necessarily good with Paintball guns. The refs and I vsed against these EX-special forces guys once. They got their asses kicked mainly because they pointed there guns straight at the enemy instead of lobbing it.

Yep, never miss the bowl...

Oh, wait, with GUNS now? Never touched one. I'd assume, however, that I'd be mediocre to good with most, and excellent with a single variety of weapon that I chose to focus on.

I am absolutely terrible at aiming at anything with any sort of hand-held gun. However if the gun (or projectile launcher) is fixed in place and I am given a LOT OF TIME to aim then I'm not completely hopeless.

In short I'd be dead in 10 seconds in a real war. I have absolutely no confidence to handle weapons in real life.

I think it was the wind going against our team's direction. Had much less trouble with the swerving after sides switched.

My first shot ever fired was directly in the center of the target. As was my second, and third... and so on.

I'd consider my self a decent shot, I play Airsoft pretty regularly, and am constantly getting beef for shooting people at a fair distance..Also, with regards to Live fire Guns, I can get a 4 inch spread from 15 rounds with an SA80 at 150m ( on a clear day with little wind ).

I've only shot a couple "gun" things before:

1) A pellet gun
2) A water gun

The first one I didn't do very well with.
The second one I did quite well. I one a lot of the water gun fights I had as a child.

That may or may not have had anything to do with me using the hose after I got bored

I'm a solid shot with a rifle, depending on the rifle. I can hit a 4 foot human silhouette from 300 meters with an M16 or M4, and longer range with the correct system.

Pistols I'm not so experienced with though I would love to get much better.

I'm a gods-awful shot. Couldn't hit the broad side of a moose from three feet. If I ever went duck hunting I think I'd just lay down suppressive fire with an SMG...hope maybe I hit something besides the dog.

Yeah, im a decent shot with, say, a .22 rifle,(usually on rabbit or fox) but the last time i used a shotgun (on a stationary turnip, btw) i hit it, but got one hell of a bruised shoulder.

Never tried real guns, and I shoot airsoft guns more accurately akimbo than single...

So therefore, I have a sucky shot.
I have no idea why games picked akimbo [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akimbo] as a word for wielding two weapons at the same time. Have you ever looked up what that word means? It's a stance where you put your hands on your hips and extend your elbows out.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with dual wielding weapons. They just started using it in games, and continued the trend. Probably just an inside joke by staff on some game that spread to others cause nobody knew what it was.

OT I am an excellent shot. I have a range set up on my property and own several hundred guns.
It's probably because akimbo refers to handguns, which can be holstered. Notice where someone in "akimbo stance" puts their hands.

I'm fairly good at the funfair with those toyguns. Despite having glasses I rarely miss.

And if FPS's count, I'm damn good with grenade launchers, SMG's, revolvers, snipers and laser weaponry.

Never fired a rifle so I can't say if I'm good or not.
I've done some clay pigeon shooting with a 12 guage shotgun and did quite well.
I also recently scored a 244/250 on my concealed carry license qualifing test with my own handgun.
I guess I'd qualify as a good shot in that I hit what I'm aiming at.

You're "ex-army" at 19? Seriously? Pretty impressive since the minimum term is 2 years and you can't enlist until 18.

Although I can understand your doubts, being as I had a fairly high hit-rate the first (and pretty much only) time I picked up a real rifle I still hit about 70-80% of the targets, I think it speaks less of people being totally hardcore and more of guns being kind of easy to use with a little practice.

Now all the martial arts threads where everyone has a 57th dan blackbelt in a martial art that no longer exists, can dismount men from horses with a flying kick and punch through concrete... those are the threads with a fine dusting of delicious bullshit on them.

For the record, I was one grading away from my juniour black belt in tae kwon do back when I was 23, but had to give it up when my friends got too busy to keep going to classes because I don't have my own car.
Also, I've been married for two years which means I've forgotten what sex is. Some kind of soup, right?

Minimum age is 17 for Australian (with permission), plus It was reserves so your not locked into it. (Thankfully)
