While I do get pissed off when I see really bad grammar, I've also come to realize that I'm a black pot.

(loses half the audience as they google the phrase and/or become distracted by shiny objects)

Nevertheless I also believe that an audience will only take an argument as serious as the grammar that is used to express it.

What do you think sirs?

Grammar is a reflection upon yourself, your education, and above all your intelligence. Being an informal message board expectations are not high, but regardless pepole will not take your words with an infinitesimal amount of respect if you are unable to write with the basic principles of grammar.

Okay now every one look at this man. Take him as a example of the people who feel the such a strong need to correct every thing I have written. He didn't need to because I got my point across to all of you. This is why Being a Grammar Nazi isn't really needed. He understood what I was saying, but just wanted to show off his knowledge I guess. If you were trying to burn me it didn't work. The only thing that stands out to me know is that you are easily paranoid or else a English teacher.

You were just asking for that one. Also, paranoid? Please explain how that makes any sense at all.

I'm just messing with you though. I just thought it was ironic that you made a post filled with errors, complaining about grammer Nazis. I more of a sarcastic twit than a grammer Nazi.

i usually try to ignore grammar nazis. especially since most of the time my post's grammar is nvr so bad that it is hard to read.

now i dont mind if u correct my grammar(well is annoys me a little) if u feel the need to be obsessive, but at least try to add something to the thread to further discussion. i mean u add nothing to the thread except showing that ur a grammar nazi.

I understand but I just couldn't see the sarcasm I have bad past with people doing the same stuff as you and they were serious. Sorry today has been a shitty day. As for the Grammar I am 14. Still learning it all and once I go back to school you will probably see me trying to spell more... Intellectual I guess would be the word?

From time to time, but only when they totally screw up a word.

I let people drop their apostrophes because it isn't that important, as long as I can understand them that is.

However, I have a friend who spells the word "terrible" as "teribul", and every time I see it my brain snaps. I then proceed to go on a grammar holocaust and correct everyone's spelling, no matter how slight the mistake may be.

I also find it funny when people who claim to be grammar nazis spell words incorrectly, it makes me chuckle.

To answer your question:

Face it. The Escapist is full of them. I am one from time to time. But were (we're) not all Grammar Nazi's (appostrophe is inappropriate, should just be "Nazis"). Yet there is some post ( there are some posts or this is a post, can't have some with singular) that take being a Grammar Nazi to ( too ) far. I was on a thread earlier and the first comment had nothing to do with the Topic. All it was is (changing tenses, should be "All it was was" which sounds funny but is right ) correcting the person's spelling. Come on. Thats (that's) just not right when its (it's) one word. Then some one (someone) else did the same thing. I mean at least post something that can relate to the thread. So are you a grammar Nazi? Like one that will only say something if a lot is spelled incorrectly or if one word ( if one word what, this needs a verb) ?(For instance (comma here) the beginning of a forum)
:p

I hope you take this in the good humor it was meant and at least acknowledge it's on topic for this post.

But to be more on topic; I find bad spelling and bad grammar to be terribly distracting. There is a point where a post is incomprehensible because they left out every period. Or nobody can figure out what the antecedents are. Too many mistakes and I just assume the person's opinion is worthless because if you cannot express yourself, then you aren't smart enough to have something worth expressing.
On the other hand, I do find other people doing it to the detriment of discussion to be very annoying. It's kind of a balance thing.

You forgot to double space after the period.
No I didn't.
Who double spaces after periods? One is enough.
HA! You've uncovered the first of many Grammar Wars. Even the Grammar Nazis cannot agree about the double space after periods. The double space, known as English Spacing, started with typewriters, because the basic fonts made it difficult to see the text broken into sentences. But then newspapers declared the double space was a waste of column space and tried to get rid of it. This is the common practice today and is known as French Spacing. Really, the rule here is to go with whatever your style guide tells you. So if you're writing a term paper using APA, go with the double space. If you don't have a style guide, go with whatever makes you happy. And if deciding whether to use a double or single space after a sentence does make you feel happy, please get out more.

You should have had a comma after 'Yes'.

OT: Hell yes I am. And why shouldn't I be? I roleplay, and it really fracking wrecks immersion when someone is typing like they didn't graduate from grade school.

No, never. As long as I can make out the general idea of what's being said without too much effort, I don't care. Esp. since I myself have been known to make many errors when I'm rattling off my thoughts really fast. Sometimes I may inadvertently leave out entire words because my mind goes faster then my fingers. Firefox's spell check helps with the spelling part, but not so helpful if I accidentally leave out a word.

Considering that most of said individuals tend to be douchbags about it, I think it's a fair comparison.
