Yes. If I absolutely feel I have to broach the subject of computer games with someone I'm not really familiar with, I'll open up with a few snide remarks about flash games and maybe name-drop the occasional "blockbuster".

Even if someone is aware that I'm an avid gamer, I'll never have a serious, enthusiastic discussion on gaming with them. I prefer to keep a noticeable air of self-deprecation, preferring to impress upon them that I don't think gaming is of equal worth as a hobby compared to things like literature or sports. It's clearly a lie but things are much more convenient that way: serious gamers think I'm either funny or humble (or are sharp enough to pick up what's going on) while "normal" people don't abandon me as a lost cause.

Pragmatism is the way forward!

Since I found out several of my friends spend time figuring out ways to play games without descending to the point of actually liking it, I really don't. They sit contemplating how social gaming can cover for their sickly attraction to flying pixels on the screen. I just enjoy video- games.

No, because I found that most of the people I met that don't play video games at all are ignorant douchebags. If I never played video games I would have never found this site, never found ZP, and never found some of the awesomest people I have ever met.

So in short, no...unless I am talking to a girl.

I don't think I know a single person who doesn't have a game console of some sort. Games like Guitar Hero have really made gaming a social event.

Now when I go to parties there is almost always some kind of videogame running in addition to everything else. Gaming is nothing to be ashamed of. It would be like being ashamed of watching movies.

That said, there is always room for more hobbies. If all I did was game then I would probably start to feel intellectually repressed. I'm not just a gamer, I'm also a musician, a biker, a skier, a sailor, an amateur historian and a decent artist (only with pencil and charcoal. I can't get my head around paint).

So if you are getting tired of gaming, take up a new hobby in addition to it.

no, I love games. don't feel embarassed at all.

what else can I do with my time? I have friends, I'm in school and doing fine. There just isn't really anything to do. And since during the winter in Vermont, it usually is below 0 all the time. So all I have to entertain me is games

nup. i feel more embarassed for my friends that get sucked into watching stupid tv shows every week and then try to tell me how funny "Everybody loves Raymond" is. If those shows are so funny, how come they all have fake laugh tracks eh?

I love gaming, it's a legitimate form of relaxation. I try to lead a balanced life, I work hard, I exercise, I spent quality time with loved ones, I have several hobbies/diversions and videogames just happens to be one of them.

Most people are starting to understand that they're not just for kids anymore. I think I've even convinced my old man that videogames have something to offer in regards to stories and entertainment, and that a good videogame can be akin to reading a good book.

I'm not embarassed with peers. OK, maybe not so much with girls, even though if they want to be my friends they'll have to gradually accept my general wackiness. It's sometimes in front of older people, like professors, parents or maybe parents' friends or friends' parents that it's a bit more difficult to express my real love for video games, you know? I tend to avoid showing any connection with them if possible.

Mainly I try to stick with talking to my friends about gaming. I haven't actually been playing games all that much anymore so I don't feel as much that I'm wasting time. Plus if people judge me by it, Then it'll more then likely end with an indent of a fist in one of our faces....

okay I wouldn't go that far but I will let this guy explain it

The only time I'm ever embarrassed about being a gamer is when I'm talking to a girl. Otherwise, I couldn't care less what people think.

No. And if anyone looks at me wrong because I play games then they can kiss the fattest part of my ass and then go fuck themselves, because I don't care what they think. At least I'm not screwing up my body with drugs or constantly engrossing myself in filth like reading who Brittney Spears is sleeping with now, what color Tom Cruise's bowl movement was this morning, or which girls The Jonas Brothers have crushes on like too many Americans are obsessed over these days

Excuse the language.

naw, but i don't talk about it much to anyone other than my close friends. But that's because I don't talk about things that other people aren't interested in to avoid sounding self absorbed. Besides it's not like it's the only hobby/activity i do.

I collect Warhammer 40k, trust me you don't have to be embarrassed until you hit this point. Not that I am either, but I do use this fact to win who is the biggest geek contest. But gaming is a culture now, so now you can make the argument that you a very cultured person, but like all things it's not a problem until it starts controlling your life. I've seen people lose jobs, relationships and careers due to video games particularly World of Warcraft. Unless you get to this point, don't worry about it really.
