im 21 and never had a problem with people having a problem with my age as far as gaming goes.
Accept in a MMO -once- where i went out of the way to make sure a 'mature' guild got to know me before writing me off as some annoying kid

Well, I usually go with 18-21 to avoid confusion and akward questions. I indirectly did it here at the Escapist for months.

But I was a good girl and didn't do a lot of the +18 events here...

and on youtube i think im 21...

but otherwise i try not to give my age since im still innocent or something, i forget why sometimes

I sometimes use fake birthday if I need to be 18 to access certain things. normally game websites for 18 rated games. other than that only on youtube, because I got annoyed by not being able to view certain videos

Sometimes in certain circumstances people lie about certain things, of these things especially on websites with is age. I met someone on MSN who was related to a friend of mine, I shall not mention their name but they turned out to be 21 years older than they claimed to be.

Do you ever change your age for things you do? If so why?
I prefer to be open with some of my details, age is one of them, however I would be interested to hear what you all think.

Having grown up as an online gamer in the age of online gaming before real girls took part and many many servers had players claiming to be female when they were actually old pervs scouting for boys I am naturally cynical about this kind of behavior. I suspect this relative-of-a-friend is some kind of perv and should be kept at a distance.
