Aside from that, I'm surprised no-one's mentioned the Meat Circus from Psychonauts. Fuck that place, it's horrible escort mission and the platforming hell it contained. O_O
Oh hells yes, played Psychonauts for the first time on the PC without a controller when it first came out and I just couldn't do the meat circus on a keyboard. Ended up abandoning the game in frustration, which was hella annoying as I'd bloody loved it up to then. To quote Susan Arendt, the Meat Circus was "Bullshit"

Mission 19 in Devil May Cry 4. It's a board game with 4 stages, with the last 3 endings with previous boss fights. It's just so tedious and boring and fighting the bosses for the 3rd time really doesn't help.
CREDO! The most fun boss in the game.

The last mission in Crysis 3. It just drags out for too long and you're invincible for most of it, thanks to supercharging your suit. The boss fight at the end is also just really, really boring, just like the rest of Crysis 3.

And finally, Lost Izalith from Dark Souls. It's just not fun to go through. The lava section hurts my eyes, I don't like any of the enemies in it, it's basically a boss rush area with one of them being a rehash of an earlier boss, and it has the Bed Of Chaos

Probably Mount Gulag in Final Fantasy IX.

Fucking Red Dragons and their Twister attack. From now on whenever I play through the game,, I craft wind resistant equipment in Disc 1 JUST for that area.
Really?
I thought FF IX was one of the easiest games I've ever played in my life. By the half point in the game, my characters were so tough that nothing could touch me. It's the only JRPG in which I haven't died even once.
*shrugs*

Yeah, the game is pretty easy for the most part. And the Red Dragons didn't kill all of my party members at once, Vivi was using a wind-resistant staff, so he was able to survive the encounters.

What bugged me though was that all that experience killing those things doesn't go to KO'd party members. It's very frustrating to have most of that experience go to waste. I guess I'm just OCD about that sort of thing. :/
exp wasnt wasted thats how i often level chars up because for every member there is the exp is devided but with one char they each recive the full exp.

The water temple from majoras mask fuck that place and having to 100% it 3 times in a row

There were two levels in Super Paper Mario that almost made me quit the game. In one of the levels you get abducted and need to run inside a hamster wheel to power an old mansion. They won?t let you out until you?ve generated 30000 watts of electricity, so I put a book on the -> button on the controller and did some yard work. Three hours later I had about 4000 watts to go. I must have missed a secret because that is just awful game design. What cinched it for me though was one of the final levels that had a samurai theme. The previous levels had you explore, find a new friend and solve some puzzles. In this one you ?Invaded? a samurai castle by fighting an enemy, moving to the next screen on the right, and fighting the exact same enemy again 25 times in a row. Even the art was bad with a solid white background and a single line for the ground. It was dull and clearly thrown in at the last minute to pad out the game.
Other dishonorable mentions: The para gliding sections in Ratchet and Clank. The mountain before you fight Sephiroth in FFVII (No save points except one you place yourself) and those stupid spirit world levels in Skyward Sword.

The first instance of Forsaken Fortress in Wind Waker, smack dab near the beginning of the game.
It's fairly long to get through and it's main gimmick is stealth and using unconventional combat (jars and sticks) instead of your sword (which you lose and are looking for).

It is the sole reason I despise making a new file.
Not sailing, not triforce charts, not Tingle...it's that silly portion of the game.

Floating cubes in DMC3. Whoever thought this was a good idea is an a**hole. Then you play as Vergil...

Oh, have you forgotten the horror that was Tree Tops from the first Spyro?

Oh, no. I didn't forget. It took me SO long to 100% Tree Tops, just because I couldn't find certain parts of the level. What a poorly designed world. But I think Mystic Marsh is worse (really, Ripto's Rage! had a lot of those "ehhh" levels for me).

I've never been a fan of subterranean levels. Anything cave-like gives me an uneasy feeling, maybe claustrophobic. It took me a long time to work up enough interest to play a Metroid game because of this, but I'm glad I finally did.

Has anyone here said "Water Temple" from Ocarina yet? Cuz I'd just like to brag that I never had a problem with it. Deal.

Those terrible ship levels in Terror from the Deep. The mission doesn't end until every alien is killed and there's many dozens of tiny rooms and closets they could be lurking in.
I feel your pain. Especially when you have to do one before you have armor!

Peragus on KOTOR 2. Feels like it sort of drags on.

I'd say act 3 in Diablo 2.

I swear that place was designed to be annoying. Endless corridors with rivers in the middle that lead to nowhere. Countless demonic, pygmy tribals to play wack-a-mole with, not to mention that I've never liked Incas/Mayans in games
The jungle can really be a pain to explore. Curse my completionist nature!

Underwater part in Dino Crisis 2. Whole game is so fast paced and then BAM! you move like a slug trying to evade Croco-dinos charging at you. And also, if you didn't have enough money to buy some specific gun, you couldn't complete the level!

Persona 4 Golden, the new dungeon, the Hollow Forest, f**k that place! I hated every second of it, piss poor experience and money rewards, annoying layout, stupid SP draining throughout the dungeon after every battle, all weapons, armor and accessories removed and replaced with nerfed crap...was there some guy who thought it would be fun!? But to be fair, the story and music of the area was executed perfectly.
I made that area ridiculously easy by fusing a Kaiwan with Victory Cry early-on and fusing said skill onto a Daisoujou, which later learns Samsara and Hama Boost. I just wiped everything out in one turn. I also brought Yosuke, Kanji and Naoto along. Naoto has automatic SP regen through Invigorate and Yosuke's Brave Blade and Kanji's Primal Force don't use SP to attack, so they could pick up the slack against light-resistant enemies. I swapped Kanji out for Yukiko for the boss, though, because you can't bypass its physical reflection with items.

OT: Any rendition of Atlantica in Kingdom Hearts. The swimming controls were annoying in the first game, it didn't make much sense in Chain of Memories and it was just a dumb musical minigame in the second game.
wait what? I had Izanagi-no-okami for that dungeon, but Victory Cry didn't work there! And neither did Trumpeter's Cool Breeze.

Those god-awful, stupidly designed, idiotic, sewers in Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. It was filled with crapload of enemies, every corridor was the same and it was really really badly designed.

I left Blighttown.

Mention: I was playing with a mouse and keyboard. Platforming is harder than diamond.

Now on to... Sen's Fortress. Crap.

Edit: There's another game which I cannot play because of one level. It's a transformer game on the PS2, I don't remember the name but I remember you'd play as Hot Rod, Optimus and one last guy(Blue car, about all I remember). A Mayan pyramid level that is
so tight your camera glitches out whenever you spin it and the lighting makes it so much worse.

Honestly I didn't mind Blighttown. Admittedly I didn't go through the depths, instead I just used the shortcut from new londo via valley of drakes (if that even is the shortcut).
Pretty much only ever went down there to farm the slugs for red titanite and kill quelaag, never explored it. Now New londo and the tomb of giants on the other hand can go and fuck themselves with a rake.

Anyone remember the library from Halo: CE? Yeah fuck that place too.
Honestly, the only annoying parts of Blighttown was when the frame rate began to chug and the toxic blow dart guys. The library from Halo became infinitely easier when you realized that a chest shot from the pistol could kill them all in 1-3 hits (even on legendary).

Kingdom Hearts 2 - Everything prior to getting to play as Sora and actually play the game.
This as well. Screw Roxas. I couldn't care less about him, and I certainly couldn't have when I didn't know that Chain of Memories was a thing and I just popped in 2 and was like "WHO THE FUCK IS THIS?! WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?! WHERE'S SORA?!"
Like this?

I never found Blighttown to be that bad but that might be because I was expecting it to be awful

That fucking moving wall in the Spirit Temple in Ocarina of Time made me hate the entire game. It was just so fucking tedious. It feels like it was only put there to piss me off.

Kurst Prison and the exploration part of the Fortress of Regrets in Planescape: Torment were both just plain badly designed. Spamming hundreds of enemies at the player does not a good challenge make.

Water Hazard in Half-Life 2 was just boring as hell.
You do know you can just hookshot yourself to the top of it right?

There's a trick to it. Victory Cry will always bring your SP up to full after battle. Then, the dungeon halves it. It's not that Victory Cry doesn't work; it's just that instead of having 100% SP after every battle, you have 50%, which is more than enough to fire off a Samsara or Die for Me spell and instantly win the next fight.

If you have Rise's SP restoring skill and/or Cool Breeze, you will eventually reach a point of equilibrium where the Hollow Forest is leeching away SP at the same rate at which it is restored after battle, since Cool Breeze works off of a percentage of your max SP while the dungeon's automatic SP deduction works off of your current SP.
