Hey, lemme give you a clue, trying to provoke someone into an argument with a "Joke" is, in fact, trolling. So, You were trolling. I have just been stupid enough to fall into this mess.
No, you were stupid enough to imagine this whole mess in your head, provoke yourself into an argument and then blame me for it.

I have no idea how you interpreted that utterly harmless joke as some kind of provocation - you're being paranoid. I've been posting on this site for two years now, I know better than to 'troll'. Ask anyone around here who knows me.
Hey, I've been on this site three years now, I call em like I see em. Simple as that.

A joke with very little context to be a joke when in fact was more of a racial slur. So, your defending a racist? How to you like me breaking things down to their simplest elements? its not very fun is it?
Ok I actually laughed out loud at that one.... a racist???

Dude, in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood they make a very big point of making fun of the French accent. The team are French themselves and happy to lampoon thier own accent. THAT is what inspired me to post about the French accent.

First you play the troll card, and when that fails you play the racism card. Thank you for giving me a good laugh.

Civil War would suck majorly - how much parkour do you think you could get up to in a Western? In fact, it would be pretty much just a Western, wouldn't it? You know, just with some larger towns and maybe even some brick construction. Nothing like the grand historical cities of Italy.
Go watch Gangs Of New York. Sprawling city with lots of local color (like a bar with a giant tree in the middle of it). Just old enough to have a somewhat European feel, young enough to have an oddly rural flavor, and lots of wild history to draw from. Almost all of the fighting happened in the rural South, which is why we have a skewed perception of the period. The Northeast had large sprawling cities as the Industrial Age was in full swing there. It would provide a similar background with it's own unique flavor.
Oh, yeah, early industrial is a nice period. Given the choice, though, I would go set it in early industrial England as there's plenty of things there that fit nicely into the AC's re-appropriation of history. And more history, of course.
Victorian England would be the most obvious choice. It's so damn iconic. The big drawback is that it would be hard to escape the billion and one cliches that have slipped into the Victorian setting. Do you really want to hear, "howzit goin' guv'ner" 80 billion times as you run through the streets of London? And they'd probably not be able to resist throwing Jack The Ripper in there, which is one of those things that is so over-done that I groan every time someone tosses their pet theory into the ring.

The American Northeast during the Civil War is one of those rarely seen settings. The two default settings for the Northeast are the Revolutionary Era and Modern Day. New York City is pretty much unrecognizable with the most iconic landmarks several decades away, while Boston & Philadelphia could provide the notable landmarks. If they do it, I figure they'll be channeling Gangs Of New York a lot, but there's still a lot of room in their to maneuver, perhaps even adding in the Illuminati, who are about the closest America has to the Knights Templars. The main drawback is that people hear "American Civil War" and immediately think of the battles in the South, but it's just the sort of rarely seen historical period that I would love to see in video games more often.

Funny, when I opened this thread, I was hoping it wouldn't be set in America, but in responding to other people, I realized that it could be a really good choice. Aside from Gangs Of New York, I'm not aware of any other movie that has really dove into this era. Victorian England is usually where tales of the underbelly of the Industrial Revolution take place.

My suggestion would be Commodore Perry Japan and follow a Shogun-ish storyline. Actually, a Shogun-ish storyline fits perfectly with AC. It's basically what they've done. Other than that, I could care less about where it's set, I just don't want to have to deal with Ezio again. At least pick somebody new.
I would love to know more about Japanese cities at the time. As I said up-thread, Assassin's Creed really needs a particular type of city to function. You have to have a lot of densely populated houses, few taller than a few stories high; lots of zig-zagging streets; numerous towers; some churches or fortresses; and also some wide-open rural areas... and it helps if there are some well-known landmarks mixed in. Assuming Japan fits the bill, it would be a great setting for an Assassin's Creed game... but I don't know nearly enough about Japan to know for certain.

The Japan idea is good. But out of the likely ones im hoping for the French Revolution. It's a lot more like the other games with the assassins dethrone the templars. You could have Robespierre as an ally and the Louis or Marie Antoinette are templars or some shit. Also there could be musketeers and shit to fight.

Plus there is alot of shit to climb in France. And it would be awesome to run away from gaurds and lure them through a guillotine and then use a throwing knife to cut the rope and slice them in half :)

No, not really.

That's how you make yourself look like a humorless brick and cause others laugh at your expense.

But hey, what would I know... I'm a racist troll. (snigger)

There weren't a whole lot of bustling metropolises back then, but Edo or Kyoto would be a good start. Lots and lots of countryside though. It would be interesting to know what kind of fun assassinations would take place through paper walls. Also, ninjas!
