I vote for Industrial Revolution Britain as the next Assassin's Creed setting.
It would fit well - crowded cities, paupers lining the streets, evil utilitarian industrialists controlling everything, idyllic countryside, advances in science and technology leading to the beginnings of globalisation.
The East India Company could be used as a front for the Templars, as part of their evil globetrotting escapades? They always seemed a fairly evil, fascinating, controlling international organisation. This way the game could also spread out to different parts of the British Empire with their own beautiful locales: Canada; Australia; Carribean; Africa and of course India.
Failing that I wouldn't mind one as Desmond.
