My Shin Megami Tensei playlist is completely ruined!

Has anyone else noticed that a load of Persona content has been torn down the past few days? Multiple accounts have been taken down. Is SEGA responsible with their recent acquisition?

EDIT: SEGA is not thought to be responsible. Instead:

From what I gather a Russian actress representing the work of "Persona Stars" and thus started flagging videos with the word Persona in them which were taken down. Videos ranging from OST music, gameplay footage, lets plays and even the Hiimdaisy comic dub were all deleted as a result.

It would ring true; Sega are particularly heavy handed with controlling anything they deem to be their content, judging from what they did with the Streets of Rage & Sonic Remakes. Has anyone released any kind of statement?

I don't know, but some people are saying that some Russian actress or someone posing as her, made DMCA claims against a ton of Persona-related content. Some of the videos have been taken down by claimants using Russian names. It stinks.

Lol. I already legally own copies of most of the games which include the soundtrack, naturally. The OSTs should come free. And this DMCA takedown isn't limited to OSTs. Fan videos have been taken down too.

And besides, availability of soundtracks is patchy in Europe.

It is the Russian actress again I believe. There have been claims about that. When you click on the videos does it say that the uploader removed it, or that it was removed by "*insert company name*"? Mainly because the Russian actress thing has been a problem for a while now, and false copyright claims aren't new to YouTube that's for sure.

Except when the actual OSTs are either no longer available for sale online, or when they aren't even being made anymore. This is especially a problem with Sonic game OSTs. For example, the OST for Sonic Generations costs $52 at it's cheapest while the game itself costs anywhere between $10-$20.

Exactly. And yes, it says that - insert company name - has removed it. At least two different companies last time I saw.

First it'll be the soundtracks. Then it'll be takedowns of any user footage of games, a la Shining Force. Then it'll be the news that the next Persona/SMT games aren't leaving Japan.

SEEEEGGGGAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
Except that there has been a huge problem lately in which a Russian actress has been flagging all Persona related things on YouTube and getting them taken down due to false flagging. Because you know, it's not like that is a big problem on YouTube or anything. >.>

SEGA was indeed retarded with the Shining Force, but jumping to conclusions that it will happen again isn't helping at all, and I'm definitely not defending that stupid decision or SEGA at all, but do know that it was SEGA of Japan's decision to do that, and SEGA of America was actually trying to get confirmation as to why they did it and was trying to get that decision reversed at one point, just like how Nintendo of America was trying to get that LPing thing reversed at the time.

At this point, I don't blame SEGA either. If they were, SEGA's name would be on the DMCA claims.

Wait, since I legally own every Final Fantasy game, I "should get the OST's Free"? Because I own a movie, I should also get it's soundtrack free? No, you shouldn't.
All the first-party tracks that are included in the game, yes. I really don't give a crap, there's no harm in listening to the soundtrack for free online when it's a part of the primary product. If the soundtrack adds additional content, then fine, but paying twice for something I own already? Lolno. That's just asking to be a cashcow.

This is what would be the case generally. If SEGA were the ones who took it down then their company name would be on the DMCA claim.

However, did some of the songs have lyrics and someone singing in them? Mainly because a lot of the time the company that has contracts with that singer can put up claims as well, which sucks.
For example, Square Enix owns the rights to the Kingdom Hearts IP, but if you just so happen to get a Content Match ID on the video, and it just so happens to have Simple and Clean/Hikari in it I can guarantee with 100% that the claim is not being filed by Square Enix, but by EMI Studios Japan because they have a contract with Utada Hikaru.

YouTube's copyright system is severely broken, and I'm only used to it because I've been doing LPs for over a year and have had more false flaggers than actual, legitimate ones who take claim to it. There has been only 3 times that I've gotten a 3rd Party Content ID match that actually is from the company that made the game that I was LPing (or LPed). The fact that this is happening so close to the whole Russian actress thing, and the fact that it is still going, is definitely not SEGA's fault. If it was their fault again, like that stupid Shining Force crap, then I'd assume that SEGA of Japan is off their meds again. :p
Now, is it mainly Persona songs, or is it also Shin Megami Tensei songs as well?

Some of them, especially those with typical Persona Engrish. And some without. Although that might be the result of accounts being banned.

Some other Shin Megami Tensei OSTs are down too. Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, etc.

If it is SEGA, the Japanese studio goes off their mess a lot, then expect an announcement from them detailing why they're doing it. However, this sounds a bit more like a flagging troll to be honest, and I still remember when a flagging troll got Chuggaconroy and NintendoCapriSun banned as well. YouTube desparately needs to fix its copyright system. The amount of times CardGamesFTW has been banned and has come back is a true example of how bad their system is.

I agree completely. So much bullshit. There isn't even a burden of proof.

If you aren't willing to buy the OSTs then don't, simple as that. Go to a torrent site or extract the files yourself or whatever. But don't expect to be able to listen to the music for free just because you think "there's no harm" and then complain when you can't anymore. The stuff is copyrighted for a reason.
Same shit, different method. Common sense says it's fair use, since I bought the game WITH the soundtrack included inside the game files. So are let's plays and fan creations, and companies should be thankful for the exposure which creates more demand for their actual products.

The issue has been covered in this thread as well so I recommend those interested to give it a read.

I've got a video about the problem as well. Hopefully this won't get taken down off youtube as well when he's just trying to get the word out.

The Hiimdaisy comic dub? That's just going TOO FAR.
