Okay, probably a bad choice of words on my part, but what I meant to say was that it isn't very good in those three categories, which is what broke the movie for me. Now I can respect trying to make a movie look pretty and stunning, but really, why couldn't a similarly large portion of Avatar's $300 million budget be used to improve the writing, characters, story, narrative, and make it so that you can understand the human's conflict, while at the same time, understand the Navi's? Why couldn't the technology used to make the movie be used to make it not only very pretty, but also make it enchanting in terms of its story telling?Furburt said:No, that's not fact, that's your opinion. I think it was a good movie, that's my opinion.buy teh haloz said:It was a three hour tech demo that shoved all the flaws in your face. I could go on about the paper thin story, the unlikeable characters, the overused cliches and tropes, but the fact of the matter is that this was a bad movie. My point is this, A movie must stand up on its writing, narrative, and plot. If special effects are the primary focus, something has gone very very wrong.
And no, a movie does not have to stand up on its writing, narrative or plot in my opinion. It varies among people, but I judge films purely on their entertainment value. That's why I go to see films. Obviously, if a plot is good, it's a definite plus, but if the plot is bad, it doesn't matter as long as other elements in the overall experience outweigh it.
In this case, the admittedly poor plot, the unoriginality of the story, and the flakey acting from the supporting cast (I liked the characters myself), are compensated for by the setting, the cinematography, the action sequences and the overall feeling of wonder I experienced watching the film.
I respect your right to express your opinion, but calling a film bad and then claiming it's a 'fact' when many other people enjoy it is wrong.
What I'm trying to say is with this technology, you could make a damn near perfect movie. A Citizen Kane, if you will, of our generation.
