lol. as a teacher i have to say that they don't use white or blackboards anymore. we now have smartboards! =D lol. sorry if i'm being a smartassDRobert said:This story has been banging around for years. My understanding is that the kernel of truth at the centre of it is that a pre-school in England made their own variation of the song that combined the song with learning colours. It was never about being politically correct. The government never made laws about it. Next you'll be telling us that teachers are no longer permitted to use the words 'blackboard' and 'whiteboard'.
And since when did they (you know, Them, the evil PC crew) change the lyrics to Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree?
Believe me it is true, I have a lot of quite a bit of experience in schools and youth groups and my girlfriend works in a nursery. The song is not allowed to be sung out of fear of offence. Sounds like a load of rubbish to me though.Android2137 said:What are these sources? If it's true, it makes me believe we're all better off being born blind... until we find different ways to discriminate like accent or scent...

They've changed "Couldn't put humpty together again" to "Made humpty happy again" as well.
I think I speak for humanity when I say: WTF?

Furthermore it demonstrates fundamental lack of understanding by legislators/administrators and suggests the beginning of unacceptable censoring. I dislike slippery slope arguments but they apply here.SuperMse said:Because I'm sure you had such a huge attachment to that song beforehand.
Your suggestion to "roll over and accept it" is weak and foolish.
absolutely right, it's completely ridiculous, i hate it when people do this! no-one EVER would actually be offended by the simple out-of-ontext use of the words "black" or "white"Mr.Numbers said:But seeing racism where there is none is a form of racism in it's self.
yeah, i get what you're trying to do but you're gonna have to be a little more specific if you want to freak some people out here (i am wearing glasses by the way)Mr.Numbers said:So what's your thoughts on this, hmm?
Yes that means YOU, the guy with the glasses.
don't forget eggs! we all know how they get when they're upset!Ih8pkmn said:First idiots want to change Huckleberry Finn, now THIS!?!
What the fuck... What next? Editing Humpty Dumpty because it's offensive to people affected by gravity?!
Just wondering what did they swap gay for?Mr.Numbers said:I think this is utterly ridiculous. I mean, They're gonna change it to Rainbow sheep according to a few sources.
THey changed Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree for using the word gay, and I could understand that. I didn't agree with it, but if a lot of children laugh at you as you sing the song it's understandable.
But seeing racism where there is none is a form of racism in it's self. They are meant to be treated as equals, and acting extremely...extremist...over stuff like this is more causing embarrassment than actual black rights (Which I'm all for).
It's the equivalent of seeing a black guy and saying BLACK. HE'S BLACK. BE NICE TO HIM BECAUSE HE'S BLACK, PEOPLE in my opinion...
So what's your thoughts on this, hmm?

They've been discussing this for YEARS now man.Mr.Numbers said:I think this is utterly ridiculous. I mean, They're gonna change it to Rainbow sheep according to a few sources.
