"You people"... Now who's blanket judging?
I imagine he meant "people like/similar to you", which is not blanket judging, it's showing distaste for people who say insulting things.

bjj hero said:
You did exactly the same as I did. Your judgement is from "most of the people I knew", so its no more or less valid than my opinion.
The only part of your post I can't disagree with.

It's great being pretentious and "individual" (just like all of your friends) when you're a teen, crying all the time and writing shit poetry. Most grow out of it after that.
Most Goth's are not teens, shows how much you know about it really, you can be thrown into the group of people known as "talk about things they don't know about" now.

The ones like how you describe are not Goth's they are known as 'Spooky Kids' by Goth's in that they try and act like Goth's because they think it is the same way you think it is.

bjj hero said:
My favourites are the goths who drag it out a little too long, long hair and a bald patch at the back or wear a suit and regular dress monday to Friday then wear the make up and halloween costume on the weekend. Time to give it up.
Some people don't have the luxury of getting the ideal job, Goth's are included I imagine. Not that it would be any of your business how other people choose to dress of course.

I'll save the insults and profanity. I feel no need to attack you in return.
What you really mean, of course, is that you are not going to risk saying something stupid enough to get you reported.
Where to start, early 20's isn't much different from teens. Its still the college crowd. Also spook kids is an elitist label used by goths for people they see as "less goth", hence it is usually pointed at those who are younger than the person saying it.

Even in the out crowd there's an in crowd.

No, I mean lifes too short and its juvenile. Short of me dropping the "N" bomb, typing "first" or something equally offensive/stupid one report will not get me banned. I'll be taking the high road. If I throw personal insults I do it to peoples faces, not hiding behind a monitor.

N-o, it's used in reference to people who think that being a Goth is about wearing black, acting depressed, writing dark poetry and being an "individual". In other words, people who don't know what Goth is but think they do.

It's like someone calling themselves a football player because they have the uniform and support a team. They don't play football so they are not a football player.

Goth is about, first and foremost: The music. Then the attitude, and lastly, the clothing.

Most people see it the other way around, even some Goth's, but grouping them all like that is ridiculous.

Y-es, People get labeled spook kid simply on age, dress and associates. You haven't seen his/her CD collection, know their personality etc. Its a way to convince yourself and those around that you are more goth than the next person (normally the up and comming/next gen goths).

I've seen the term thrown around by dyed in the wool goths then 10 minutes later gush over their new corset/boots etc. Its about music (I still have to leave the room if I hear temple of love), attitude, dress and clothing (You missed out upsetting your parents/elders). No point putting it in any particular order.

You did make me smile though. I've not heard the term spook kid in about 6 years.

I like some goth music, but mainly emo music on the whole. I wear indie clothes and listen to indie music too. I like the indie style, so that's what I am, in a way. However, for some strange reason I'm more attracted to emos and the emo style, in that I like it much more, but I'm indie myself. It's weird. I have a fascination with the macabre and with things like vampires, and with the entire emo sub-culture, and I'm strangely attracted to goth girls, to the extent that the main female character in most of my fiction writing (based on a part of my own personality, by the way), is a goth girl. In a way I'm just an amalgamation of the three different sub-cultures, sort of, and it can be a bit confusing in my head at times.

I don't like the use of the word "you" as if you are implying that I have ever used it myself. Beyond places only Goth's tend to go I am yet to actually meet/talk to any. My area is Chav-central.

Like I said, some Goth's are the type you describe, you get pricks in every social group.

That doesn't mean that some of the kids labelled as such do not fit the term, or that some of the people who use the term are not using it in the way I described: To point out that the person is not a Goth but think they are because they wear black and love Marilyn Manson.

You have brought up a rather amusing point though. You stated:

You did make me smile though. I've not heard the term spook kid in about 6 years.
So you expect people to agree with an opinion based upon something somebody said 6 years ago? What about the Goth's of today? For all you know they are completely different, in my experience they are like everyone else, you get the elitist jerks and you get the nice ones.

Goths annoy me on some level and hence I enjoy throwing things at them, especially as most of them are just poseur middle class white kids.

I go old school non-conformist, leather jacket, leather boots, greaser haircut, black shades and listen to rock and roll, should be getting a motorbike sometime next year as well, then I'm putting on my aviator sunglasses, puffing a cigarette flipping off the nearest person and riding off as a lone rebel. (Well probably to university partly paid for my grandparents for by grandparents but in a very trendy fashion :D)

I had (and still have) long hair, listen almost entirely metal, and wear mostly black (it's my favorite color). This led a lot of ignorant or just stupid people just assuming I was goth. (this was worsened by the fact I had a girl friend at the time who also fit the above description.)

It was not an accusing "you", it was a general "you". Stop being so over sensitive.

Like I said, most goths grow out of it, hence the number of goth associates has dwindled. It's good to see that the up and comers are still being labelled spook kids though. Even goths need a hierarchy. "X is cooler/more goth than Y".

I have noticed that goths seem to be getting fatter. Amphetamine must be out of fashion.

You are beginning to repeat yourself.

You are also deliberately ignoring the point I made about not all Goth's being the way you think they are.

It's quite ironic, considering you claim that Goth's shouldn't use elitist labels for people they don't know.

I am under the impression that something negative happened to you involving a Goth, there has to be some reason for your petty mindedness over the matter.

You are also incorrect here.

If you wear black and like dark things but don't listen to Goth music you are not a Goth. If you listen to Goth but don't really like dark things in general and don't wear the clothing then you could still be considered one. Hence the people who dress normally for their day jobs most of the time.

It's not just goths, it's people in general. People want to belong to something, no matter how much they protest. When there is an in group there must also be an out group and a pecking order. Even in sub-cultures. I don't believe I said goths shouldn't use elitist labels, if I did it was a mistake. I said they do use elitist language. Its part of being in the group.

Finally, like everyone else I've had bad experiences (I just choose not to write bad poetry about them afterwards). My bad goth experiences didn't go past hating the music on a night out. Its not the end of the world, if you drink enough the music doesn't matter and there was always the pool table. The place actually burnt down a few years ago. Shame.

Lol I got labelled a goth, by kids in my school, because the school uniform was black not something I could help. So they started calling me "that bogger lass" because I wore jeans and hoodies that were a size too big.

Stupid chavs ¬_¬

I've never been goth, really I don't think I fall under any high school stereotypes (completely at least). I mean, I've been called emo/scene but as far as that goes I'd have to disagree since I don't act like or look like an emo/scene kid.

Sadly, I'll have to admit to being a geek/hipster hybrid. I fit all the hipster stereotypes and I'm rather geeky =[

not that I do any of it intentionally, its just something I unconsciously picked up from being around those types of people.

Actually, we have a huge number of mall goths at my school, but I don't consider that goth at all.

A long long time ago, (I was singing, my my, american pie) I used to be a bit of an emo. I had long hair that covered my eyes so I had to swish my hair to one side whenever I did anything, I listened to MCR (bleugh) And I went around with a glum look on my face. Nowadays though I'm a lot less foppish, and a lot more practical. I have my hair cut short, so no hair swishing for me.

I guess I'm one of the few who has always been 'himself'. I've dibbed in pretty much every existing 'subculture' but I've never seen them as anything but what they are; subcultures. I am/was not really one of those types who only wears black but you can't compare me to someone in plain white either. Gray is more my colour of choice I guess.

Eh, I was usually mistaken as a goth when I was young. I just enjoyed wearing black with chains and found pentagrams unusually interesting. That stuff is just a sense of style to me. Just like my lover. She loves wearing black with boots, chains and fishnets just because she prefers the style over others and it fits her personality.
