In Flames. Once upon a time this metal band had it all. Impressive vocals, creative guitar chords, awesome themes for their music, emotion, and interesting lyrics. Then they became a shadow of their former selves by not evolving and switching genres completely.

Arch Enemy - Angela's material killed this band.

Slayer - Once creative, yet they chose to write more Nu-Metalish material as the years went on.

Eh you could pretty much say that about every single band out there. Theres always the people who will say "this" band sucked after "this" happened.

I guess if I have to pick one I would say Slipknot. I liked a couple of their songs when they first came out but haven't been interested in any of their newer stuff.

AC/DC
Seem to fade and fade and fade away with each new release.

I remember when they had a frightening amount of aggressive feral power to their music.

Metallica seemed to degrade after the Black Album. Then they went back up with Death Magnetic.
I see it as "...And Justice For All" as their last good release. Black Album was good, but you can tell they tried to hit a new commercial enterprise with that one.

Death Magentic was not everyone else hyped it up to be.

Rise Against used to be such a good punk band, now they are just god awful!

I blame their song "swing life away". While it wasn't a bad song, it opened them to the public, they saw the money making possibility if they "toned down" their songs, and we now see the resultant piece of garbage.

I would like to see a return to the finer times such as "revolutions per minute".

Crossfade probably because their first album set the bar really high and the second had like 2 good songs.

The Ordinary Boys. Their first album had a great, cynical, punky sound to it. Their other albums, though? Blech.

The Killers.

I have a few more but, I'm trying to reduce the chance of a flame war as I really don't feel like starting one.

This is entirely my opinion, but I preferred Coldplay before X&Y .
Eh. Life in Technicolor II is the only song I prefer over any of their older stuff. But other than that, I agree.

Metallica is the obivious one.
I want to (though hard to admit it) mention Pearl Jam. Now I'm a massive Pearl Jam fan, but after listening to their new material and compare it to previous work like Ten and Vs. It feels like they kind do so much better. In saying that, you can tell that the crew still put alot of heart into their work.

Trivium. Their first two albums were great technically and had a pretty unique sound for the time. The Crusade and Shogun sucked hard though. Shogun was slightly better but I couldn't name you a track off either I actually listen to by choice.

Billy Talent somewhat suffers from this syndrome, together with Anti-Flag. They're both somewhat moving towards the cocky 'desperate' pop-punk ballad-like sound with their first albums being a lot more raw. Even Bad Religion seems to have been grabbed by this phenomenon (if you've heard 'Honest Goodbye'...).

Also, Panic! At the Disco, for the two albums they made. Their first was original and though often undeservedly called 'emo', pretty interesting on specifically the lyrics department. Their second album is hailed as being brilliant for being "inspired by the Beatles", which is exactly what leads me to say it's not as good.

Last but not least, System of a Down or more specifically, Serj Tankian. I'd have a hard time judging Toxicity against Hypnotize/Mesmerize, but I do know both of those are indefinitely better than Elect The Dead. Serj's solo album was decent metal but it has nothing of the brilliance SOAD has.

U2, great in the 80's, mediocre in the 90's and god-awful in the 00's.

Pretty much everything they've done since (and including) Zooropa has been crap.

I'd have to say Green Day. Me no likeh the new album. System of a Down changed as time went on, but it didn't make them worse. Hmm...it's hard to think.
