Well, damn. I guess everything that I had to say has been said in the opening post already.

Guess I'll just go away then... yeah...

Muse. They'll never hit the apex that was Origin Of Symmetry again, alas.
Yup.

The one most heavily on my mind at the moment is Kings Of Leon. First album: great. Second album: alright. Third: pretty poor. Current one: absolutely dire.

Weezer probably fall into that category too - their first three albums are the best by a big margin (yup, I'm that one guy who loves The Green Album, though not as much as Pinkerton), although I wouldn't say any of the others were strictly bad, just nowhere near as good.

Billy Talent somewhat suffers from this syndrome, together with Anti-Flag. They're both somewhat moving towards the cocky 'desperate' pop-punk ballad-like sound with their first albums being a lot more raw. Even Bad Religion seems to have been grabbed by this phenomenon (if you've heard 'Honest Goodbye'...).

Also, Panic! At the Disco, for the two albums they made. Their first was original and though often undeservedly called 'emo', pretty interesting on specifically the lyrics department. Their second album is hailed as being brilliant for being "inspired by the Beatles", which is exactly what leads me to say it's not as good.

Last but not least, System of a Down or more specifically, Serj Tankian. I'd have a hard time judging Toxicity against Hypnotize/Mesmerize, but I do know both of those are indefinitely better than Elect The Dead. Serj's solo album was decent metal but it has nothing of the brilliance SOAD has.
Psh, panic did not decline, and tho i like their originality on the first album, fact is, they were just as gay as fall out boy. The constantly got compared to those preppy emo fagwads, and the mass amount of fag out boy albums that came out kinda drowned their original style. They had to switch it up to show that they actually had skills as a band by doing something drastically different, and if they make a third album, i'm looking forward to it.
As for my answer to the post topic, I'd agree with the killer sucking, and sadly, rise against went bad too, tho i still like their crap. How about the decline of ICP, i mean, not that they started out good in the first place, but yeah...they kinda suck more than just a little bit :D

I actually love their new material. And I love their old. I think they're finding a new niche. Maybe they just don't want to do the same thing and instead expand their horizons.

Anyway, Metallica. They were great years back, now they're desperately trying to reclaim their old fanbase. It went downhill after the death of Cliff.

Arch Enemy - Angela's material killed this band.

Slayer - Once creative, yet they chose to write more Nu-Metalish material as the years went on.
i respectfully disagree on arch enemy. With the previous singer the band just sounded like just another bland unoriginal metal band, I find gossows style way more interesting and powerful. Although id prefer it if this upcoming album wasnt a restyling of older songs, i think she will be able to make a much better sound.

AC/DC
Seem to fade and fade and fade away with each new release.

I remember when they had a frightening amount of aggressive feral power to their music.
i havent heard too much of their stuff, but the songs from Black Ice they played when they were in denmark was pretty sweet.

OT: Sonic Syndicate will go down from now on, because they found a new singer, since Roland left the band in march.

Nightwish went downwards after Tarja left. they still have some awesomesauce, but they arent as good without her.

The Ordinary Boys. Their first album had a great, cynical, punky sound to it. Their other albums, though? Blech.
How odd...

We're in agreement once again. Over The Counter Culture was actually pretty damn good, in my opinion. But their other stuff... Not so much.

I wanna say AFI but I do like their newer albums, just in a different kind of way, if that makes sense

Every band goes into a shitty stage at some point and relieses "oh fuck, shouldn't have done that"

Generally

If it's a good band they will stick in at it and go back to their winning formula and release a good album

If it's a shit band they will give up :p

Suede always comes to my mind. As soon as Brett Anderson stopped taking drugs, that was it, the band died.

It's a real shame when not taking illegal drugs can actually have a negative effect on an artist's creativity.

Honestly though, how many bands get better as time goes on? Some will peak halfway through their careers (U2, Radiohead), but I can't think of one long last band who's final material was their best yet.

I will go for the entire punk genre before about 1994, after that Pop punk and Emo took hold destroying what was a vital and aggressive genre with songs about how their girlfriends hate them and how much they like porn/geek culture and metal ironically! having said that I find both ME First and the gimme gimmes and the Vandals hilarious!

Jesus christ, you can list most bands ever. (I respectfully disagree with your opinion on Arch Enemy, though I admit most of their new material isn't very enjoyable imo.)

Warning: huge post.
The Autumn Offering - Their first two albums had some amazing guitar work, great riffs, and thankfully only one whiny part in one song. Unfortunately, after their second album, their ENTIRE LINEUP changed, whiny vocals everywhere, and it pretty much devolved into a generic metalcore.

Metallica - I don't want to explain this. I really don't. They began as one of the most influential thrash bands ever, and just got worse from there. To this day, I still consider St. Anger to be one of the worst albums ever made.

Ozzy - I've never really liked everything from one of his albums, but he definitely has gotten worse over the years.

Black Sabbath - Ozzy got fired. I don't like much of post-Ozzy black sabbath at all.

Static-X - Their first album was one of the best industrial albums ever. Afterwards, they kept on trying different sounds and experimenting, and their last few albums sucked so hard it's unreal. They've only made 2 songs that I like in the past 4 albums.

Megadeth - Their best days are certainly behind them, and they are still going at it. Don't get me wrong, they're still pretty good (to me at least), just not as good as they were before. I will say that modern Megadeth is leaps and bounds better than modern Metallica, thats for sure.

Rainbow - Things have never really been the same for me since Dio got fired. At least they made a few instrumentals after they changed singers, unlike SOME bands. >.>

Bethlehem - Also never have been the same without Rainer Landfermann. Best shrieks and screaming vocalist ever, and they lost him. Tsk tsk tsk.

Guns N' Roses - Slash left.

System of a Down - To this day, SOAD is my favorite band and I love everything they ever made, I still feel as if Mezmerize/Hypnotize wasn't as good as their first 3. The creativity and sound was very unique, but I couldn't help but long for Serj to sing most of the time. I will give Daron kudos for Lonely Day. However, if SOAD had a version of Serj singing it, and I heard that one first, I might think about it differently.

Extreme - Their first album = incredible. And from there.... I'm left unimpressed. They actually reunited and made a new album after Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80's when 'Play With Me' was put in. The album itself was kind of mediocre in my opinion. Probably one of the few bands who are dragged down by not being heavy.

Dragonforce - *sighs* Over time, it seems like they're losing their creativity and becoming less melodic and focusing more on effects. Sad thing is, they'll wallow in their success for Through The fire and flames no matter how absurdly overplayed it gets, and still remain popular. Also; Worst. GODDAM. FUCKING. DRUMMING. EVER. ARRRRRRRRGH!!!.

I could go on and on and on.

People call it blasphemy when I say that Slipknot's MFKR album was the pinnacle of their career, and that their biggest mistake was continuing on without their two good guitarists (Josh Brainard and Donnie Steele) and replacing Anders Colsefni with Corey Taylor.

All of the Four Horseman of Thrash have been spiraling downhill for the last decade or so, and the only hope for them so far has been Metallica's "Death Magnetic" and the last two Megadeth albums.

Mudvayne's style changed drastically when they did the "Lost and Found" album and turned into a "radio-friendly" band.

System of a Down needs to kick Daron out of the band. 'Nuff said.

Mr. Bungle all but died as soon as they stopped making music and started to make it their mission to piss off The Red Hot Chili Peppers as much as possible. Now Mike Patton is doing voice acting, so I guess that worked out for him (I was really surprised to hear his voice on Bionic Commando).

Disturbed was good for about one or two albums, but after a while, you get sick and tired of the same song repeated over and over again. Same could be said for Linkin Park as well. You can take only so much of "You Did This Horrible Thing To Me".

Guns 'N Roses.
