Metallica, I could endure St. Anger, but now...

YES YOUR THE TABLE I GET IT
Just when you think they're lyrics couldn't be worse.
As someone who actually can find enjoyment in St. Anger (A couple songs on it are pretty good if you go into it with no expectations of it being anything like the older albums), this made me want to rip my eardrums out of my skull and burn my Metallica Converse. Unfortunately I like hearing and those shoes are too epic to throw away.

So, yeah, I liked Metallica until I heard this monstrosity.

Oh!

What hell the how fuck? Please tell me that's some kind of ridiculous remix that somebody put on YouTube to make it sound stupid and not the original version. Also:

It is, but the real version is much worse. Yeah, you heard me right.

Basically this is a thread about a band or bands you may have liked until something they did, said or some other form of information concerning them came to light that made you lose respect for or possbly hate them.

I'll go ahead and list a few...

I liked Green Day until... the album Warning came out. After hearing that pile of crap over and over at a seasonal job I took (I won't say where but I hate myself for working there) I could never listen to another Green Day song ever again.

I liked Metallica until... St. Anger was released. Sure I didn't agree with their bitchiness over Napster... but when they released St. Anger, I realized then that these guys had lost the magic, the touch... whatever it was that made them metal was gone.

I liked Megadeth until... I met Dave Mustaine and found out what a real asshole he is.

So there are some examples...
All of this. Except the third one, I never really liked them

I hear he damaged his vocal chord and his doctor told him not to scream anymore.

Now, while I agree with you that it all went downhill from City of Evil, personally I felt that it did still have their "feel" to it. After that though . . . eugh. I've never listened to the entirety of their self-titled album and I don't think I've managed to fully listen to any song off of "Nightmare" because they simply drifted away from their roots (yes, I know the drummer/backing vocals/songwriter guy died, yadda yadda).

Of course, I'm pretty sure I actually listened to City of Evil before Waking the Fallen and Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, so that might color my perspective a bit. . .

Slightly more OT: Linkin Park; A Day To Remember (Though I do still like them, it's much more selective than on all of their earlier albums); Destroy The Runner; Emarosa; and Escape the Fate are all valid contenders.

In an odd twist, The Devil Wears Prada; Drop Dead, Gorgeous; Hollywood Undead; The Human Abstract; Memphis May Fire; Norma Jean; and Veil of Maya are all bands that I didn't really care for until something new of theirs came out that I heard. (Memphis May Fire being a particularly interesting case because I loved their first EP with the original singer, was "meh" about their first album, felt their second EP was a bit better, and now really like their second album.)
I feel the same way about A Day To Remember and Memphis May Fire and The Devil Wears Prada are two of my favorite bands, both of their new cd's kick a lot of ass. And I Agree Norma Jean and The Human Abstracts newer stuff is way better than their older stuff.

Never heard about that, what is this dirty puppetry magic you speak of?
He's just there

My arguments with regards to Dave Grohl are completely flimsy I'll admit, like I said earlier, I don't why I dislike him, I just dislike the guy. Its an irrational dislike I guess.

I used to like system of the down until I heard the song science, well heard the song and actually listened to the lyrics, one of the lines is "science fails to recognize the single most potent element of human existence, letting the reigns go to the unfolding is faith" to me that sounds like they are saying, "science sucks, yay faith" and faith is one of the more retarded things that people have, so fuck em.
How would you explain their line "Why cry when angels deserve to die?" in "Chop Suey"? Taking lines out of context aside, perhaps "Science" is just a commentary on the short-comings of science? How its ostensible promise of leading us into a new and better world is slightly undercut when you consider the horrors humanity has had to endure ever since the advent of the modern age? Its undervaluing of the more spiritual, intangible qualities inherent in human existence?

Just throwing that out there, feel free to agree or disagree. Honestly, System aren't even that good in my opinion, so you not listening to them certainly isn't much of a loss as far as I'm concerned. That being said, if there's one thing I'm not a fan of, it's rash decisions!
not wanting to start a flame war or anything, but we've been screwing ourselves around long before the "modern age" and science is just the new scapegoat as far as I'm concerned, hell, we still fight over Jerusalem to some extent after 2000 years of FAITH, all because some guy we'd laugh out of the country into the nearest mental hospital shit himself and died on a hill twenty feet away.

I used to be fond of a rapper named MURS, but then I found out he supported Insane Clown Posse. I deleted all of his albums and never looked back.

Coldplay, until they started wearing downright crap uniforms and started singing shallow 'rock anthems'.

What the hell was wrong with the clocks/yellow formula? Brit pop with some class and execution? Damn you, Coldplay.
I actually think Viva la Vida was their best album, though it only barely beats out A Rush of Blood to the Head. I thought the old formula was good, until X&Y - then it became clear they needed to do something different. But yeah, I can see how the sudden switch could throw some people.
I love it when people give well answers like that! You gave your opinion - which I totally respect, and respect even more thanks to the manner of your delivery - then indicated that you understood why I might have a different opinion. If only more people posted like you, dear OhJohnNo!

I have to admit, I did not listen to all of the tracks on the more recent albums, such was my distaste for the released singles, but really I liked Coldplay when they were like a yellow blur mixed with a bit of whimsy - songs like Everything's Not Lost, Spies, Shiver and many others (from their first albums), songs with a distinctively classic feel about them. They weren't trying to do anything new, just trying to revolutionize and improve the standard. Loved it!
Well, thanks. It's nice to feel appreciated. Also fixed. :p

I loved Parachutes too, because it had so much soul. It was kind of adorable, with those relaxing little piano melodies and gentle guitar riffs. Yellow in particular is one of the happiest songs I've ever heard. But still... I don't think they could have stayed there forever. (Although they still haven't quite abandoned it - Reign of Love [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMHkOelzu9s] is one of the cutest songs I've ever heard).

Funnily enough, last night I had a dream that Chris Martin had started his own comedy show on the BBC. Sadly, I can't actually remember any of the show.

I liked Serj Tankian's solo stuff until I found out he was on Sound Strike. Fuck you, Serj. Not everyone here is a racist, immigrant-hating fuckhead.
And not everyone who doesn't go bleeding heart over illegal immigrants, or didn't automatically assume the worst and flip their shit over Arizona's law, is racist.

Just saying...You might want to avoid generalizations like that.

I don't understand how someone's wacky beliefs, or new songs they release, could wreck the songs that you do like.

Hate to break it to you but System of a Down have never hidden their hardcore Christian roots.

Evanescence are also big on Jesus, just to warn you in case you have some CD's floating about.
Christian? I don't know about that, they've toured with Slayer and some of the interviews with Shavo and Daron say otherwise. Serj is definitely a very spiritual person, but christian? I doubt it.

What? Serj co-founded the Axis of Justice with Tom Morrello. A anti-racist, anti-facist, non-prophet organisation. Unless you're mistaking that for Serjical Strike, his record label.

Slyers vocalist is a christian too.

I dont understand how an artists faith can make someone hate their music.

I sit in that rare group who actually like Linkin Park's newer albums. Almost more than I like the old ones. They grew up, tried new sounds and A Thousand Suns is one of my favourite albums that I own.

OT: Paramore. I liked their original album. I really liked it. Then we went on to Riot! and whatever the new one is called, and their style changed so much from their first album that I just lost all interest.

I don't understand it either, a person I know used to really like Foo Fighters (which I still do) until he found out Dave Grohl was Christian and apparantely added christian stuff to his songs and now he doesn't really listen to them anymore.

I used to like bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Metallica and other shit like that. Then one day I realised that I couldn't stand them any more. To this day, I have no idea why. I just know that they all sound like absolute garbage and I used to idolise them.
