Bayonetta is tasteless and immature. What do you think?

It's Devil May Cry, only idiot-pretty-boy is replaced with bitchy-sex-witch.
I don't really see the big deal.

What the hell do big corporate game desingers think we are nowadays? Do they think we're all sexually frustrated creeps with bizzare fetishes? Bayonetta isn't even sexy, and the story and concepts are shit. True, it was made in Japan. Do they get excused for this? No. Keep your creepy sexual fantasies to yourself, and put your obvious talents to something with some taste for God's sake.

I'm a very aesthetic based guy, and if a game looks or sounds bad I can NOT enjoy gameplay. I'm looking at you, Japan!

Now, Japan can make some beautiful works. Look at things like Zelda and some JRPGs. Wonderful stories and artwork. But occasionally you get some shit like the game mentioned beforehand: A shallow as a teaspoon mindless boob-fest, with awful design and storytelling and incredibly immature depictions of women and sexuality in general.

Thoughts? Do you disagree? Do you just think it's all in fun?

How would YOU feel if you were a game designer who had to make that game, would you begin to despise yourself? I'm sure I would...

I'm sorry, I'm just really getting tired of things like this nowadays, popping up everywhere. They just lack taste...

You didn't like it, others do, get over it. Of course it's all in fun, it's a game. Not every game has to be some sort of statement, and the game has some cool character design.

There are far too many threads on here with people freaking out because they don't like a game and other people do.

I am fighting through the game as we speak, and I must say the campy dialogue and the slightly out there storyline grows on you. Its an acquired taste, but the Artwork helps a bunch.

The artwork, especially that of the different angels you get to shoot, pound, slice and whip to dust, is simply awesome. This goes even more for the epic bosses.

And ending a boss by changing my catsuit, which is made out off my hair, into a giant demon wolfhead which then bites his head off... awesome!

And Bayonetta as a character, its all winks and nudges, but i guess you gotta be able to see that.

Only thing i can comment on it is the repetitiveness and the quick time events. But all in all a great and gutsy game!

Everything about that game was so hilariously bad that I couldn't put it down.

And if you could get past all the stupid shit they piled on, the combat system was actually pretty good.

Ha ha you totally missed the point of the game.

It laughed at itself. Which i thought was hilarious. I enjoyed the shit out of it.

(although i must say Jubileus's black hole attack was a cock-move.)
I agree with you. And il be damned if it was not for the shit and giggles.

Oh and to avoid the blackhole attack just go in panther mode.
Yeah, i know, i figured it out the second time. Doesn't change the fact that i had to go all the way back to her FUCKING PURPLE HEALTH BAR with absolutely no idea what happened. At least the transmogrifying disc blades of homing childness didn't reset almost the entire battle. Past that it was a pretty epic end to a kick-ass game with some sweet matrix cutscenes.

Oh yeah, and i started jumping over those too.

Firstly, the game wasn't trying in anyway to take itself seriously. It was a cheesy action game and it reveled in it. And, Bayonetta is currently my vote for game of the year.

And, according to MovieBob of this site, Bayonetta is perhaps the first video game female character to forgo the dismissive and submissive conventions of a female character. Bayonetta is the "first video game women that's been successfully and unashamedly built to not just be sexy, not just be strong, but to be sexually intimidating." Check out the videos for his complete thoughts.

I agree with very much of what MovieBob had to say; I'm sure Bayonetta isn't the absolute first, but probably the first that has such a level of popularity. Bayonetta is a very strong character in every sense. She does do some very sexual dancing and moves in the game but she does it because she wants to (it fits her character), she enjoys doing it, and it's not just to attract male gamers to buy the game like Dead or Alive.

That game, is epic win. I gave it to my dad for Father's Day and he's loving it as did I. The only problem with that game is the voice actress. But what are you gonna do?

Save your hate for people that attack you.

If you don't like a game, why should I give a fu...EDIT: You have a right to your opinion.

I loved Bayonetta , it was better than GOW and DMC (for me), so yeah, I have no problem with it. If the over sexed character bothers you, don't buy the game.

If you can't handle the over crazed plot, then go read a book or play a Mario game.

Oh yeah, I will at least admit I am tasteless and immature.

Either way, I hope to spend my money on a sequel if it is ever made.

EDIT: Not that it really matters, but the character design was done by a woman, does that really matter??

I say nay. I liked Bayonetta. I think you just need to calm down, take a step back, and realize that there's no need to get frustrated over such things. It's all going to be okay. :] I mean, if you don't like the game, that's cool, there are games that I don't like too, but I think the way you're carrying on about it is silly. It's fun to play, it's humorous, and I dunno', I thought it was kinda' sexy, but that's just me.

Not everything has to be serious and broody, it's okay to have games that are ridiculous.

I have to agree with the OP. I've been playing games for more than 20 years. I can admit to having a secret crush on Lara Croft and all that. I like a sexy chick in my game just like the next guy but Bayonetta disgusts me. It's probably the most disgusting and repulsive videogame protagonist ever. Sure, there are uglier characters but they at least try not to take themselves too seriously.

I know that Bayonetta also isn't supposed to be taken seriously but I don't buy that. The limited time spent in the game made me feel like the layer of supposed irony was very thin and only there to disguise what Bayonetta really was: a realization of someone's messed up fantasy.

And I consider it a terrible game. Repetitive, even more devoid of story than DMC, ugly and with terrible visibility once the hair and spells start to fly. Looking at the review scores, I honestly think Bayonetta to be the single most overrated game in existence. It's all a matter of taste of course but I just don't see all this "subtle" irony and parody. Making something excessive or blunt isn't enough to say you're laughing at it.

Oh hell yeah, I'm sure the gameplay is great. BUT gamplay is not hard to design, just takes a team and some simple and good ideas.
Erm... So you are saying that you find a game distastful, yet you haven't played it?
I only played the demo, honestly, but I had fun with it. Sure, it was overly sexualized, but I just found myself laughing at it, rather than being disgusted.

Be prepared to face both the "it's just a game" crowd and the "but she's a strong female lead and therefore all feminism is more or less wrong on the subject" crowd. Both are kind of dumb, if you ask me.

The whole game looked bloody absurd, and just as bad as the rest, but I don't know. I am sick of the rampant misogyny in gaming though, seeing as how I'm no longer a teenager who thinks with his dick all the time (now I just do it on the weekends).

Heck, I'd settle for less samey games in general, but I'm not holding my breath. It's an industry that has been capitalized on. More sifting for us, it seems.

And therein lies the rub. Irony and camp are not catch-alls for people to hide behind when things get dicey.

I think it's good to see a game that spits in the face of people with 'standards'. It's a game that doesn't care what other people think and looks awesome while doing it. And please don't pull that "haha Japan" shit. I'll admit while it has the feeling of any other Japanese developed game, I think Bayonetta breaks some barriers. It is shameless [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/1420-Bayonetta] after all.

I think that was kinda the point

Think Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, Beneath the Valley of the Ultra Vixens, Barbarella, Night of the Living Dead, Dead or Alive, Motel Hell, Heathers, even Lucas' American Graffiti or Monty Python ~ and these are just the famous ones ~ trashy, sexually charged, over the top but all amazing movies nonetheless.

Can't really think of any games that fit here, maybe Leisure Suit Larry, Duke Nukem, the old Interstate games, Hopkins FBI, basically any game that's either too graphic or has something people are not comfortable with in copious amounts.

Tasteless, yes, but not immature. Dazed and Confused was immature, this is sexually gratifying. And a breath of fresh air! It doesn't lack taste, it lacks YOUR taste. Where the hell are they popping up everywhere now? I'm not saying Bayonetta is completely original but what other game takes things that far (which, by the way, is not really THAT far)? ~ maybe BloodRayne.

Don't go see Machete, you're gonna hate it.

look man, I get it, not everyone's attracted to hot chicks, you don't have to blame Japan for that. it's just who you are.

I apologize but you have to admit you walked right in to it

I like the shameless level of sexualization in Bayonetta
I'm pretty sure the reason I couldn't get in to Devil May Cry was that Dante didn't have boobs
you say immature like it's a bad thing, well okay most of the time it is. but can you name one JRPG where you didn't have at least super hot under-dressed chick in your party, and was she not the most kick ass party member you had.
I think the concept of a "bad ass hot chick" came from Japan (I might be wrong) but it's preferable to western attitude of "stand back pretty lady and let the men handle this"
instead you got Tifa and Judith who could kick just as much ass as Cloud or Yuri any day.
I doubt we would have characters like Cortana, from halo. or Ashelyn, from Jak 2 Alyx from half life 2 or Tali from Mass Effect if it weren't for that shameless Japanese fetish of the kick ass hot chick.

who cares how much innuendo is in the game, it was more fun to play than any other game I've played recently
if Bayonetta wasn't you're style than don't play it...don't complain about it, unless you're just bummed that it cost you $60, then I can sympathies

and to answer your first question most of us are sexually frustrated creeps with bizarre fetishes. are you trying to say that you don't have bizarre fetishes?

and isn't "taste" subjective. I found Bayonetta very tasteful compared to some of the stuff I watch. and you can dress her up like a nun with one of the unlockable outfits if that would more suit your fancy.

Well lets be honest about games like bayonetta and devil may cry n such. Think of them as the action movies of the video game genre. They are not there to increase out intelligence and make us think. They are there for us to shoot shit slash shit and beat shit up. They will not have the best story..they will not have the best music. hell devil may cry was one damn metal song for like 4 games lol. god of war killed his family and went all emo and blamed it on everyone else instead of himself like he should have..not ground breaking story's imo. you play them for a quick bit of fun and laughs then get on with your day. if u are offended by the sexuality of her and her randomness.. DONT FUCKING PLAY THE GAME! Read a review befor purchasing. its like buying a porn called back door sluts 9 and being offended when you realize its hard core porn

Watch and pay attention to MovieBob's character analysis of Bayonetta:
