Be Honest, what did you think of QTE's when you first encountered it?

Tomb Raider Legend (PC, uses white arrows so it's hard to tell what to do): "Why does she keep getting herself owned by those saw blades? Can't she duck?" "Ohhhhhh... wait, what? How was I supposed to know that?"

After that, QTEs didn't annoy me.

They're called Quicktime Events? Like the software?
That is easier than calling them the "button prompting-gameplay thing". I hated them in the Force Unleashed, though I can't remember other games I've played with them. It felt like the game was being taken out of my hands. I can't imagine a scenario where I would like them.

I don't recall the first game, they CAN be used well but games like ...Ninja Blade where every cutscene is a QTE nightmare it's DUMB. It'd be nicer to sit back and watch the crazy cutscene but no instead you gotta be staring at the screen waiting for the next button thing to pop up.

Edit: First game was God of War I think, and that I thought they were fine in because it was obvious when they were coming and were easy to pull off for the most part. And it wasn't like stated above, foaming at the mouth ready to pounce.

I first encountered them in RE4, and I HATED them.

I still do. It's a deal breaker for me in a game.

First encountered them in RE4. I loved 'em. They made the whole thing seem more tense, especially in the context they were used in. (The surprise run-from-the-rock scene stands out in my mind)

Also, I so called them being the next big thing in gaming.

Okay, Dragon's Lair and other FMV Games (and the like) don't really count. "Quick Time Event" suggests that it's just a quick event that comes in between other kinds of gameplay.
Does anybody actually believe this besides you? :V
It's roughly the equivalent of referring to a movie as a cutscene.
That's nice. Answer my question, please.
Sure:

Yes.

Happy?

I actually like QTE's. They look badass most of the time, and I think they're fun to pull off. I like the sequence ones instead of mashing though. ( A,X,>,>,Y in two seconds; instead of XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX)

"Oh, SHI- Where's my controller?" That's what I think the first time I see it in pretty much any game.

In general, it strikes me as pointless busy work that's no more entertaining than those work sheets they gave out in grade school when the teacher wanted to keep you busy even though there was nothing to teach that day.

They're fine in small doses, but for the love of god don't base the entire game around them. At that point it might as well just be a damn movie.

i actually thought they were okay, because they made things that would be either really really hard or impossible, possible while also making them interactive.

First time I encountered a QTE was on Sonic Unleashed. Probably a late QTE-bloomer but onto the question.
Basically, I went 'What the fu-' then died. And from then on absolutely hated QTE's. I was not influenced by Yahtzee, though. Although I didn't know what it was called until I watched a review of his.
Also, sometimes the game realizes that QTE's are too hard for you and slows down time to give you a bigger gap to hit the button, but all this does is make me wonder why Sonic suddenly got so slow, until I realize there's a tiny 'B' in the center of the screen, then I fall to my death anyway...

i think it was in kingdom hearts 2, they had some QTE segments during bossfights. i remember seeing them in the screenshots and excitedly told my friends the next day. i thought it made those fights look really awesome, and i still think they can be used effectivly

The first QTEs I remember were in Indigo Prophecy and God of War. GoW did them well; I felt that they added to the game. Indigo Prophecy relied on them too much, but the individual sequences weren't too bad.

But the QTEs in Resident Evil 4 can go die in a fire.
