I'm going to agree with the other gajillion people who already said this and say Alex Vance. Valve actually programed her to do smart things. Other than leaving you alone with the Combine in Nova Prospekt she's great.

In other news, I would have to say HK-47. He served me well in KotOR and continued to do so in KotOR 2.

Tails from Sonic, he's immortal (at least in the Sega versions) and he can fly sonic across platforms the less talented couldn't reach. Half the time when playing with a friend and you get to a boss fight Sonic just avoids all attacks and Tails uses his immortal kamikaze powers to win.
