Fallout 2 has the best opening in my opinion. Well I mean the opening narration was the best, the opening gameplay the Temple of Trials was the worst part of the game and one of the worst beginning sequences ever.

Silent Hill has one of the best openings and it is the first time we hear that weird balalayka music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eds1ivwq1oc

Valkyrie Profile: In order to understand the point of Valkyrie Profile, you need to see the prologue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95s7zxgViFs

The L4D2 intro cinematic is great. I love it so much, everytime I fire up the game, I just can't skip it. The music (damn, that's some good intro rock), the one-liners ('Kill all sons of bitches, that's my official instructions!'), the action. Bravo Valve.

Skate and Skate 2 had some pretty cool intro's to. Especially Skate 1 was great in my opinion. Breaking your bones, having Danny frickin' Way perform plastic surgery upon your ass, then getting back on the streets felt both original and very funny at the same time.

Blasphemy! The Red Alert 3 Hell's march is not, by a long shot, as good as the first Hell's march. The visuals are of course better, but the music (and the game itself by the way) ruin it.

Do not ask us to be nice, demand it! Or wait, that would just piss people off... Yeah, go with the question instead.

There is nothing that beats the intro to DMC 3.

"Why does Dante eat pizza when he is supposed to be out there beating de-HOLY SHIT HE JUST GOT STABBED 5 TIMES!"
true, i just started playing yesterday again.

also kingdom hearts 2.
it brought back all the memories from KH1
heh, I would say it's the song, but I almost laughed when after the 3rd hour of playing, The Titles suddenly rolled up and I thought. "...wait, i was also playing DURING the opening too?" o.o

I always thought Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines set the theme for the rest of the game beautifully.

Blizzard have a brilliant 'movie studio'. Diablo 1, 2 and starcraft all have intro's and cut scenes that make you want to carry on and progress further.

I also like the Dragonage intro, very LoTR inspired, in all the good ways.

Sir, you forget yourself. They're all bloody brilliant.

But Red Alert 3 is deffinitely my favourite it terms of.. everything really. Although the game itself could be better, I've never played the first one fully. But Hell's March 3 is soooooo much better.

Half life 2 was pretty cool.
"Wake up and... Smell the ashes."

Prototype was plain awesome all the way through.
"That won't be necessary" *impalement*

Also Aquaria.
"Narrator and explorer. My story will become yours and your story will become my own."

For me, the best game opening was Shadow of Colossus. This includes the cinematic before you hit the menu screen and the one after you hit "Play". A very effective sequence all in all.

Half-Life 1 - Mystic music, nice cabin voice, Ross Scott's voice in my head... [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J80KD4BG7M]

*Thinks back at the first moment I experienced. Filled with glee.*

I do love the opening scene to Dawn of War 2. Always makes me scream "PURGE THE UNCLEAN"

I think you are to young to have even played red alert 1 when it came out. That game was epic! Red Alert 2 was also a good game, but they have ruined it with part 3, just like they ruined the new C&C. The game just didn't have that Westwood feeling to it any more. EA just went overboard with the craziness of the units, the story and the graphics. Red alert allways was about modern warfare with a twist. Part 3 was just wacky, putting Raiden from Mortal combat in your game?

Assassins Creed II had a pretty awesome assassination video, though I didn't like how he finally killed him.

There was another one that I really liked, but its an older game, I forget what it is..

Yeah I think I was too young too. I've borrowed it from a friend and played Red Alert 2, which I loved, and Red Alert 3 was fun, but I still think it lacked the actual Red Alert feel to it. And my friend, which played them all on release pretty much said exactly what you said about both series'. Although you're still crazy because Hell's March 3 rocks.

Borderlands was pretty good, but Bioshock was also great. Now when I say Bioshock I mean everything up until you get into the first area(Neptune's Bounty I think).
