The Bacalov Corrector from NOLF.

A single-shot pistol with a scope (based on a Thompson Center Arms Contender) firing bullets that hit like grenades.

Second-favourite is the 6-inch Colt Python from Half-Life 2.

It's a handgun that fires assault rifle rounds.
It's a .44 magnum on the inside.

The police pistol in Fallout New Vegas, mainly because I have over 2,000 rounds for it and it can destroy a raider's face very well.
Or the Ranger Sequoia, just because of it's weilders, the NCR Rangers.

hmm handguns now that i havent thought of before.
if i had to choose i have to say the constructo pistol in ratchet and clank crack in time
because you can turn it into a machinegun and other modifications.
freakin' love this gun, it just kicks so much ass. rapid fire/ricochet/perforator combo always worked wonders for me :D ^^

OT: My choice would have to be the Double-Action Revolver from Red Dead. It sounds awesome, is powerful as hell, is super fast firing and looks like a goddamn boss. Easily my favorite weapon in the game :D

Does the Broken Butterfly from RE4 count? No? Aw, shucks.

How about the alien handguns from Perfect Dark? The evil aliens' one had a quite useful secondary function, and the good aliens' looked very funny. Those are both great in my book.

Still no? Then I guess I'll have to say the DD44 Dostovei from GoldenEye 64. Probably no one's favourite weapon in the game, but it looked good, did a fair amount of damage for a weapon that used 9mm rounds - sorry, 'pistol ammo' - and you could dual-wield it and do the trick to unsynch your reloads so you never stop firing. I was an unstoppable akimbo god of war.

Desert Eagle in Counter Strike: Source hands down, both bad ass and really useful
I love the Desert Eagle. Not actually using it, mind you, but the fact that everyone uses it because the 'pros' use it, and don't know that the reason the 'pros' use it is that it's a powerful, hard to use gun that can do ridiculous damage if you know how to use it but is slighly less useful than the knife if you don't.

I'm a pretty poor CS player, but it wasn't rare for me to get 3, 4 kills on the opening round because everyone bought the DE even though they couldn't use it properly, while I stuck to the cheap starting 9mm I did know how to use.

I like the boltok pistol from Gears of War.
1 shot in the body, another in the head and *pop* headshot! I love that sound. :)

Single Action Army (SAA) from the Metal Gear Solid series. Why?

It's a revolver, and revolvers are badass.

You can deflect it off walls and do trick shots which will automatically deflect to the nearest enemy.

It has a seperate function where you can use the analogue stick to twirl it. YOU CAN DO TRICKS WITH IT IN BETWEEN SHOTS.

the .375 from HL2 it,s a literal Hand Cannon
or the Laser Pistol from FO3/NV it can turn your enemy into ash!

The laser pistol from the Fallout series. Seriously, it turns people to ash, how is that not awesome?!?!?
Plasma Pistol was better. Glowing Goo >> Ash.

OT: The Pistols (and really, all the guns) from ME1 were pretty awesome. They actually had unlimited ammo, and with reasoning behind such. IF you read through the codex, the concept behind it was cool.
Alien Blaster is my favorite from the Fallout series it turns people into blue glowing goo
and I know this has been said before but the Golden Gun from Goldeneye is also awesome.
The Alien Blaster in the first game is so much more devastating than the one in 3 and New Vegas because it used the standard small energy cells instead of specialized ammo.

I would say those all count, and props to everyone that still remembers Perfect Dark, provided that everyone's referring to the original.

Perfect dark Falcon 2 (http://perfectdark.wikia.com/wiki/Falcon_2) hits the target everytime, can be silenced/scoped and you can use two at the same time. Also it fires as fast as you can tap the button.

Why is the halo pistol singled out, as far as I could ever tell it's design was about as generic as you can get, with its only significant feature was being overpowered in the first game.
My favourite handgun is probably is probably Samus Arans arm cannon, can be held and operated with one hand making it handgun, and it does so many different things.
I singled it out because I didn't want the mass of halo lovers filling up this topic with single word posts about that damn overpowered super weapon. And yes, it is super generic and I wanted to hear some original ones

Well isn't it quite obviously the CSS Deagle?

There used to be a GIF showing how it could level a building with a single shot, but i can't find it so this will have to do:
Boom, Headshot!

OT: The Five-SeveN from Splinter Cell, particularly Conviction. Bar that, I was quite partial to the P99 in the Quantam of Solace video game...

Splinter Cell's Conviction USP <3

Probably one of the rare games where the side arms get the spotlight.
The USP not the Socom? As I recall the USP is a non-silenced pistol.

Not if you go by the item description from 1 and 2, which has it as a hand modified .223 hunting rifle.

That's a very good point. The reason I picked That Gun is because of the common place ammo.

I've always said the best type gun to have in Fallout New Vegas is one with common place ammo.
Or at least ammo you can craft easily.

I bet most people favorite gun and the one they actually use the most are completely different.

The magnum in Marathon Infinity. Pulps aliens till there's nothing left save a few lentil-colored splotches here and there.
