Why don't I see soul eater on this list?

I seen that and soul eater is awesome... I couldn't stop laughing at times and the action was the best.

I've watched a lot of anime but now i'm having trouble finding more good series. I don't care if its romance as long as it has a deep story and good character design, and some action might help. I'd also like to know what you think the best Anime of all time is and why.

Out of the little I watched i'd probally say Vampire Knight because it had an intriguing story and character development with plenty of action and it was able to keep me interested.

I just got done watching Death Note and let me tell you that series blew my mind. It's not got over-the-top action because it's more of an intelligent crime thriller.

If you want DEEP, you can't get any more DEEP than Neon Genesis Evangelion...

Truly, NGE, while not the best mass appeal anime, is my absolute favorite anime. It's more or less required watching for any anime fan, regardless of if you like it in the end or not.

This, and also I want to recommend Serial Experiments Lain. It's somewhat similar to NGE actually in the psychological level (actually when it was released people asked the creator if he was inspired by NGE), and it's my second favorite anime of all time. The first is NGE, but SEL for me gets quite close to the first.

Another favorites in no specific order:

  Darker than Black
  RahXephon
  Elfen Lied
  Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust
  Samurai Champloo

Another Recommendation would be The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya if you can tolerate otaku anime. For me it has brought some laughs, so if you watch it for that, you may have a good time.

(the original series wasnt bad but i prefer negima?!) also the first few episodes of to-love-ru, as soon as they stopped following the manga it all started falling apart (as per usual really, but ESPECIALLY in this case)

I loved that anime so much! Kinda spoiled the ending for myself looking for all the episodes though....

Totally agree with Dangos post. I believe Clannad (the second season is titled Clannad After Story) is an amazingly written anime. The first season can be slow at times, but its all about the character development. This is an anime that will rip your heart out, stomp it into oblivion, then somehow revive it. As slow as the beginning is, the last story arc showed me how truly brilliant the writers are, and my standards will never be the same.

But if your not into the sappy stuff, I totally reccomend Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Say what you want, but Brotherhood was about eight billion times better than the original.

Code Geass kicked major ass, but Gurren Lagann will always be my favorite mech anime.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. Darker Than Black is my absolute favorite, with FMA: brotherhood coming after it.

OT:Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is an aquired taste, i almost stopped watching it since I don't usually take to that kind of stuff. But that series is...Unique. Give it a try if you haven't yet
