Germany. Ah, history, the great black forest, the beautiful architecture and the people who are really quite friendly.
Very true, and they have clockwork public transport.
True, but it wasn't so awesome when these three guys with really big automatic rifles came onto the train looking for people who hadn't paid, and it turned out we had been sold fake tickets.
Good grief I didn't even know that happened. S

So that's how they keep it so clockwork!

Say it with me people: Scandinavia! We have decent breweries, lots of fish (om nom nom =3), oil, scenery that looks fucking awesome, very nice places to hike and really 'strong' seasons (in winter, it's COLD, in summer, it's HOT).
Lots of love to France (it's nice, but would be better without the people, or at lest the ones I stayed with) and the czech republic
Yeah France would be nice without the people, I hear that..
By the way, I don't expect anyone to learn danish when visiting for a week or two, you shouldn't either. I've done my best to properly use the english language, which I love, and I'm taking spanish lessons because I like it, and it's useful for traveling.

No offense aimed at nice french people, I know there are some. :)

So I was thinking about where I would like to live when I get older the other day and I've settled on somewhere in Europe.

I don't really know why, I just love the European countries despite only having been to 2, Spain and England.

So, naturally being that the majority of the Escapist seem to be from Europe, I come to the Escapist for an answer as to what is the best European country, city or village to live in.
Berlin is a fantastic place, Paris is cool. If you want English speaking you're obviously best in England though.

I really want to go to the town of Bernkastel (Bernkastel-Kues). It is so beautiful...
And some mighty fine wines are from there :D
Italy is also beautiful, but I'm in love with Germany.
Ditto!

I love Germany.

Sweden, of course. It's beautiful, and contrary to myths, it doesn't have polar bears on the streets, so don't worry about getting killed! :D But seriously, if you move to Stockholm for example, you'll find it very beautiful, pretty calm, and the people are nice. Although we're a bit drawn back than other Europeans. The only problem is that the winters are horrible sometimes, and we get new seasons of TV shows late. D:
No polar bears? What Sweden are you talking about? How do you get to school without the school-bear?

I mean, you can always hop onto a reindeer, but they're so hard to catch up to when you're tired in the morning.

As for Stockholm... Ugh. If you do decide on going to Sweden, avoid Stockholm like the plague. If you have to live in a large city, go to Gothenburg. In Stockholm, people are likely to shank you for looking at them too long in the subway. In Gothenburg, you at least have to step on their toes or something before they go plotting murder.

That said, if you want to go to Sweden, pick one of the smaller cities. They're generally nicer in both appearance and population. Especially along the northern coastline.
Bah, humbug! Stockholm is a nice town IMHO. It's definetly not horrible and people definetly won't shank you... I'm guessing, although I could be wrong, that Nomad is not from Stockholm. Because that sounds an aweful lot like something an "out of towner" would say... (Explaination for non-Swedes: allot of people that doesn't live in Stockholm dislike people from Stockholm claiming that they're all assholes and snobs. While people from Stockholm say that everyone else are just jealous because "everything" happens in Stockholm, the media has its focus on Stockholm and that's where "all" the jobs are).

Stockholm is really a nice town, especially during the summers. It has allot of history and beautiful nature. One of the few drawbacks with it is that it can be a bit crowded sometimes... it's probably not very crowded when compared to other cities, but still sort of crowded.

Hmm didn't Sweden like... attack Russia twice and was quite successful? To much ground to cover... Anyway seems like all Scandinavians have it in for the Russians.

Anyway OP go for Denmark and that general area. It's all Scandinavian-ish but warmer.

I'm going to say Cardiff, Wales, beautiful country and beautiful city. And if you like the beautiful sport that is rugby, Wales appreciate it so much more than England.

Italy, hands down.

Best food of the whole continent, best architecture and history of the whole continent (yes, they have enough awesomeness to make up for Mussolini), a fantastic language, gorgeous landscapes ánd gorgeous women.

Only been there once, would love to return again one day.

If you like a liberal atmosphere, then you ain't gona get much better than Holland.
Common misconception. Might've been true in the past, not so much today. Holland isn't a tolerant country, there are 2 ways of thinking: either we don't give a damn, or if something is bothering us we ***** about it. And believe me, there is a lot of bitching right now. You remember Geert Wilders? If there would be elections right now here in Holland, he would be the second biggest party of the country. That's Dutch tolerance for you, things have changed sadly.

I'm going to meditate there sometime in the future.
