Not where I live

Sterling, Virgina

Come here of you want to see housing developments, housing developments, housing developments, strip malls, and some trees.

But its close to DC, which doesn't interest me at all, its a tourist hot spot but I've been in and out of the place so much its just a casual trip for me

For someone from out of the country though it might be interesting

Um...I can safely California and Washington are nice places to live.
Liar, California is a shithole with some of the worst management in the entire country. Enjoy living in your nanny state.

Everyone knows that anyone who isn't a pussy lives in Alaska. If you're a tosser and can't handle the cold, then go to Hawaii, they at least know what it's like to not have to deal with all those mainland wankers.

Definitely not where I live, Rochester, New York. It's 45 degrees, raining one day, 22 degrees and snowing the next. Then just to screw with you it goes to 50 degrees, sunny the day after and back to snowing the next, just to show what you're going to miss over the course of winter. And that's just the weather. There's little to do here besides go out to a random party (none are good really) just to get a hangover the next day. The crime rate is really high. There's a fire one week, then another on the next on the same street, wonder why. Almost everyone that lives around the north part has a criminal record. Only reason people come here from out of state or out of the country is for college, mostly Rochester Intitute of Technology and Univerisity of Rochester, both of which are surprising some of the best considering what I just mentioned.
Oh it's not that bad, I live in Rochester to and it's a pretty nice place to live depending on the location, i wouldn't reccomend living in the inner city buy the suburbs like Greece or Irondequoit (where i live) are really pretty nice and the crime is only bad in certain places. Completely agree on the whether though, at least it's not predictable!
Yeah the places outside are far better, Brighton, Greece, etc. but the city itself sucks. It's a city and it fails at being one.

Probably eastern Oregon during the winter. Its so beautiful and cold (which I like because it drives away all the hippies)

Snowboarding FTW

EDIT: NOT LA. Its all smog, palm "trees",crime, housing developments, and endless scorching sun

New York, we have the best cheesecake [http://www.juniorscheesecake.com/] ever and it's conveniently five minutes away from my school. That is if you don't mind the crappy trains and the even worse management for said trains.

If you ever come to the US avoid Montana completely. There's nothing here... Unless you like hiking/fishing/outdoorsy crap. Then you're set for life... But cities are far apart, there's rarely anything interesting in said cities, and you'll generally freeze to death in the winter. Montana has the record for coldest day in the continental US. Something like -41F. Or maybe it was -61F? I don't really remember. I just know that it was cold... Very very cold.

not the east coast or south, their either too stuck up or too racist.
The west coast is super liberal (yes i live here and yes it is in Oc/LA
the Midwest seems nice, and for the most part it's not totally horrible. So the Midwest.

Visit Kansas... Specifically Kansas City. It's a nice place. The people are friendly, it's not overly huge, and there's a lot to see and do.

Us in Connecticut live in the best place in not just America, but the world. And we know it. And fuck you if you disagree. And fuck you if you're from Massachusetts. We had the Whalers. The motherfucking goddamn Whalers.

Also, the Merritt Parkway in the fall is easily one of the most beautiful roads in the entire world. The combination of the trees forming an orange canopy over the road and all the art deco bridges, all of which are unique, makes for something really quite special. And being on the Merritt means you get to ponder one of life's great questions: "where is exit 43?"
Yo're inviting anti-American posts now.

Ok im an Englishman, but i've always wondered what its like to live in the USA (everythings alot bigger over there and not just a quick car journey away)

so i was wondering, where are the best places to live in the US and why? and if you like also.... where are the worst places to live?

Pictures help sway your argument!
Not trying to be some sort of western fanboy, but Los Angeles, California is just awesome. I couldn't imagine myself living anywhere else. Sure we have the highest sales tax here but the culture surrounding this place is the best. And best of all it is not mostly populated by religious or boring farmer nuts, unlike other states here.

The reason why I like this place the best is also because it has a strong tie with metal. Here there are always shows and gigs every weekend somewhere, and tons of local bands form here. Not to mention that you can bet that this is a guaranteed spot for bands to come play.

yeah see im looking for a state/area with some decent scenery and atmosphere, im from Kent in England and its OK but i've always been fascinated by what there is over the pond as its so vast, just wondering where the best places are really
If you want to live in a region that's got the same weather patterns as England move to the Pacific Northwest, just stay out of Washington, we don't want you here. In fact, we don't want anyone here unless you plan on leaving soon and spending all your money before you go. We do have some nice scenery tho.

And everyone in California is a tree hugging douche with their head up their ass and more money than sense.

I've been all over the country and I'll stick with the North and the Midwest thanks. Pennsylvania is rather nice it's a such a big state, and positioned as it is you get a good sampling of all different types of people most of whom are friendly and polite. In the Northeast of the state where I'm from you have small towns and cities with metropolitan influences from NYC, and the people tend to have about the same mentality as upstate New Yorkers and New Englanders but with a more working class mentality than the latter (because all NE'ers are rich bluebloods). In the Southeast you have Philly. In the center you have the heartland breadbasket of the state and the Amish. The South of the state near the Mason-Dixon line has a down home Southern influence and its fair share of wannabe Confederates on top of the Southern hospitality mentality. And when you hit the west of the state by Pittsburgh the people out there are much more like Midwesterners. Not going to talk about the Northwest section of the state because well...the people from there are just fucking weird.

On top of the people we also have a really diverse geography, mountains, valleys, forests, etc. and all the stuff that goes with it. Not to mention all the historical stuff, battlefields from both American wars and crap like that.

I'd avoid southern California, and parts of Jersey near NYC like the plague.

*Edit*
Also people from Penna can drive and actually use their signals unlike people in some other states..*cough*Marylanders*Cough*Jerseyites*Cough*.

How do you define "best?"

I live in the "most dangerous" city and I have no intention of ever leaving. I've been to most of the US and to France, Germany, and Austria. I hate everywhere else (apart from Europe because they look out for their people better, and I respect that). Too nice, too soft.

Well apart from Pennsylvania which I rather like.

If you're into outdoorsy stuff Michigan is where to go. Hunting, fishing, ice fishing, or just chill at a cabin and drink. Beautiful scenery, and the world's biggest lakes. Detroit... well it ain't for everyone, even the people who live here lol. If you ever have the misfortune of ending up here DO NOT GO INTO THE NEIGHBORHOODS. Downtown is safe though.
