In a recent game, I personally loved the first sniping mission in Bad Company 2 where you had to use the thunder to conceal your shots.

The final mission of Assassin's Creed 2. I'm not going to spoil it, but I will say that it makes you feel like a real Assassin. Infiltrate and kill, baby.

I was thinking this. Such a very open, sandbox level, and it began with an epic cutscene.

OT: New Alexandria in Halo: Reach (the one where you're in a Falcon flying around the city at night, doing randomly assigned missions), Cathedral of Kadesh in Homeworld, and Feros in Mass Effect 1. Damn the Thorian was cool.

Is that the one with the two scarabs? Cos even though I pretty much hated the campaign, that was a breathtaking level.

Anywayyyyy...recently, that Favela level in MW2 where you lose your weapons. Sprinting through the back alleys, dodging gunfire and dozens of militia, it's damn breathtaking. The majority of Ninja Gaiden 2 was pretty great as well, besides some incredibly dodgy level designs in a couple bits.
Haha, you gave me some good memories of my brother playing that level on MW2. He died 6 times during that chase scene :D

Hard choices.

Chapter 3 in Paper Mario: TTYD. More funny stuff and interesting situations than the previous two chapters put together, it was when that game really started to come alive for me. "Spikey Joe and Mustache! Together they fight crime!"

Honorable mention to the Stone Tower Temple for reasons stated above.

No that's The Covenant, also a great mission. The Ark is the one before that, it's in a desert and has one Scarab.

All Ghillied Up for obvious reasons, if you overlook some of the less believable parts. Hornet's Nest from MW2 as well, just for constant violent mayhem.

The final levels of both Mass Effect games deserve a place for sheer epicness.

Hardly: it's very linear, and the retarded baby sub-par AI makes it a bit of a joke.

Beating up the Pope, though, that was cool.

Battle of endor in Star Wars Rouge squadron 2.
I think its mainly the fact that you start off overwhelmed and esstenily fight off an army of tie fighters.

Fort Frolic from Bioshock. Probably the longest time I every spent in a level in that game (or Bioshock 2), cos there's so much to do and just explore without going on with the story.

I think it was the last level of LOTR: Conquest. The game was not very good otherwise, but getting to attack the Shire as Sauron? Priceless.

Ugh... for some reason, I don't remember what happened in that level....
It's the desert level in Halo 3. [http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/The_Ark_%28level%29]
Have to check if it's what I think it is.

"The UNSC Forward Unto Dawn swoops in dramatically, kicking up dust and sending the vehicles and debris from the previous battle tumbling and flying across the plateau. "

Yep. Especially that part was fun on Co-Op. Always trying to fly higher that others :)

the opening level on Bioshock, the fire and water where the plane crashed was so epic, followed by the descent where you see rapture for the first time....and later it's inhabitants.
