Wizards eh....
Gandalf, Elrond? What about the most legendary one, King Arthurs most faithful helper, Merlin the Wizard. I mean in the Lore he's kind of badass.
There must be a lot mroe if we go into games and certainly there are loads of fantasy books which include wizards.
I can't give a good answer but I like Saruman ^^
h you never know harry might end up being the "Merlin" by the time the series ends. he's already way ahead of almost every wizard in his age group.

Why do you lie to us? Wizards aren't fiction. They're real, they're all just hiding from us because they're afraid of us, much like the aliens.
If they fear us then they aren't wizards only "conjurers of cheap tricks". :)

Macross the Black from the Riftwar saga. This guy is an unaging, dimension hopping wizard who is shown to be far more powerful then any number of the other wizards in many dimesions and has a whole castle filled with his research notes and is still going.
BAM! I was going to say Pug, and it's highly debatable as to which is more powerful.

But still, love that line Miranda pulls when she meets him for the first time in the books 'Hello, daddy!'

I've seen people chose Rincewind from Discworld but I think Mustrum Ridcully is a better candidate than Rincewind. Before Ridcully because the Archchancellor of Unseen University the whole structure of the institution was in disarray. I suppose the rule hasn't changed, the one that says the person who kills the Archchancellor becomes the next one but, with Ridcully there's really no killing him. Hell, the man survived a shower in one which was created by Bloody Stupid Johnson!

A very, very close second would be The Librarian. Of course some points were taken away since he was turned into an Orangutan. Granted, he was the first simian on The Disc's moon and, to survive falling off of the Disc.

I'm not really invested in wizards all that much, but I guess Miraculix is my favorite because I love the art.

^He's one, then there is Harry Dresden, who is effing awesome (and the books come out at a good pace too...), and Belgarath. Can't think of anyone else that's actually a wizard wizard, but I have a few magic users.

I have to vote for Gandalf (The Grey)/Mithrandir .He is just the epitome of what a real classic epic bad-ass Wizard should be like in every way.

Harry Mother Fucking Dresden.

Nobody beats him, ever. Gandalf is all well and cool but Harry bests him at every turn at every turn. And lets face it, being a wizard never got Gandalf laid. Harry on the other hand...
Bullshit, you think all Dumbledore and Grindelwald did was talk during their slumber parties?

Dr. Strange is the most powerful wizard in fiction, but as far as who I like the most I'll have to say Nathaniel (Bartimaeus), he's such a likeable and relatable little prick.

I don't know if he would actually count as a wizard but Rand Al'Thor (The Wheel of Time series) is shown to be able to slaughter hundreds of thousands and just plain destroy the world if he felt like it.
Gonna go with Rand Al'Thor too, at the present in The Wheel of Time he literally has single-handedly destroyed an entire army.

Raistlin Majere is up there too.

Pug from the magician series, I would have said macros, but people in the books keep saying Pug has become more powerful than him.
I might also say Magnus the Red but I'm not sure if he counts with his insane powers from Tzeentch.

When you can spell 'decide' correctly then I'll consider your opinion valid, but until then Harry Potter is fine.

O.T. Rincewind. Fucking Rincewind, man.

Hey now people, show some love for Ged, from the Earthsea series. That guy is essentially Gandalf as a young man. Plus, he was Archmage and a Dragonlord, and he even wandered through the land of the dead to kick some wizard ass a few times.

wait wait wait, hold up.

why has no one mentioned Tom Bombadil? technically not a dedicated wizard, yet still the strongest being pretty much anywhere in the multiverse. id like to see voldemort,Melkor, The dark one and fucking hitler team up against Tom, because he would hand all thier asses to them with enough time to cook a god damn Lasagne that very same evening.
