I'd like to throw in another vote for the absolutely execrable The Dark Knight Rises. Christopher Nolan has never made a masterpiece-level film(despite his ostensible opinion that his farts are masterpieces), but they've mostly been entertaining enough up to this point. Not only is The Dark Knight Rises full of plot holes, inconsistencies, and incoherent gibberish, it's also the most undeservedly smug, pretentious, self-satisfied movie I've ever seen. Remember that time Peter Griffin was talking about The Godfather? Yeah, that, except replace Vito Corleone with Batman. It insists upon itself, Lois.

Probably the World War Z trailer. That killed any hope I had of it being half-way good.
I'll have to agree with this one

IRON SKY. So many years of waiting and i actually donated to them so they could make this movie. And it disappointed me. They had steam power space Nazis from the dark side of the moon invading earth via the fashion industry. HOW DO YOU MAKE THAT DISAPOINTING?! (they found a way)

I watched and played very few things that came out in 2012, but I got a pretty big letdown. What is it you may ask?

The Avengers...

No, I'm not joking...

...The Avengers was a huge letdown for me, there is no theater in my city so I had to wait months to watch it on Blu-ray, and while I was waiting, everybody was talking about the movie, how great it was, how insanely awesome it was, the greatest super hero movie of all time, should be nominated for best picture, etc. My hype, which was already very high before the movie came out, became insane. When I sat down and watched it, I thought it was a very good superhero action movie, but nothing more. I had a great time watching it, loved some of the character interactions and the final battle, but I didn't find it to be the second coming of Christ like everybody said it was.

Mass Effect 3, as I had such high hopes for it. I was a huge fanboy of the first two games, and expected what Bioware promised. Mass Effect 3 was the largest disappointment for me, and not just because of the ending.

Other things have been just as bad, but seeing as those things did not have the same level of expectations, it's not as big a deal to me.

Also. Don't try and start a discussion asking for peoples disappointments and then tell them what they cannot mention being disappointed by.

Dark Souls.

Friends got me all hyped up about an epic action RPG that had decent combat.

I get a boring slog through boring grey linear levels fighting the same shit two dozen times in a row (Not even counting repetitions after a death) with cludgy controls and poor/no explanation of them. Framing this ugly experience is a story that ranges from uninteresting to nonexistant. And its plagued with a camera that zooms in and out as it collides with walls to give me a migraine, and constant clipping errors (Swords through walls, arrows through walls, falling through the level floor, clipping into a boss (ironically making it easy to kill).

Muse's new album, The 2nd Law. It was just kinda meh.
I have to agree with this....just too...trippy for me, I guess....
When I saw em live recently, the crowd was more enthusiastic for the older material.

And AC3, it wasn't bad...just disappointing

I'd have to say "Prometheus".

As a huge fan of Ridley Scott, I just expected something more...I dunno...epic.

While the atmosphere and visuals were amazing, all of that was bogged down by a so-so story.

Even as a standalone film (as opposed to an "Alien" prequel) all the gaps in logic, inconsistent character actions and plot holes that were supposedly "designed to make the audience think" just left me underwhelmed.

David Lindelof (who co-wrote the script), Roberto Orci and all those J.J. Abrhams cronies need to either stop writing science fiction...or actually take the time to read some good examples of it.

I'm sorry OP but I can't help myself. I don't care to beat an already pulverized horse but as a huge fanboy of Mass Effect, ME3 was my "Biggest letdown of 2012". The ending is still the worst part but upon careful reflection the game suffers in many other areas too. Over reliance on fetch quests, lack of exploration, silly planet/system scanning, Reaper evasion mini-game, lack of hacking mini-games, frantic cover system, auto-dialogue, lack of hub worlds, Day 1 DLC BS, irrelevant choices (Anderson/Udina, Spectre status, Rachni Queen etc...), stupid EMS/war assets mechanic, the list goes on and on and on. As for the ending... I've never been trolled so hard before in my life.

Again sorry OP, it's just ME3 had so much potential that was completely squandered.

I'll put another once in for Prometheus. Extremely dumb characters doing extremely dumb things makes for a very boring and predictable movie.

Also, what kind of scientist justifies their opinions with: "I just choose to believe"?!

The ending of Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. It just felt like such a blatant, unapologetic sequel-hook, in the worst possible way.

Haven't played the game but I just looked up the ending, it actually seemed pretty awesome.

Additional Context: I really enjoyed the Beast Wars: Transformers show growing up and the series begins with both ships exiting out of a warp hole, still in mid battle.

Basically, I like it because it looks like they're tying the end of the game to the beginning of the show. If that's what they tried to do, then they couldn't have either side win yet.

OT: ME3(not just the ending, it was a disappointment for me overall. I blame myself for convincing myself the writing quality would magically go up since the writers were done felating Cerberus)

Rises pissed me off a lot. It's like Nolan unlearned everything that he learned in his previous movies and hoped to make a good film out of Rises. It has good bits (Bane), but it was kinda "meh" overall.

Also, Skyfall. Alright, it was really good compared to Quantum of Solace and other Bond films, but the scenes at...

the actual location of Skyfall.

...let me down a bit. Other than that, the film was fucking awesome and definitely ranks as my favorite Bond film to date.

What was your biggest let down this year?

For me it was The Dark Knight Rises. It was painfully average and didn't live up to the first two films. My main problems with the movie:

1. Batman disappeared for 8 years, and so did Bruce Wayne, how the fuck does nobody put two and two together. Not even James Gordon. Only a couple people knew who he was (more on that in number two)

2. Joseph Gordon Levitt's character. First off, his way of figuring out that Bruce Wayne was Batman was fucking stupid. You knew it by the look on his face? What the hell is that about? Also the twist of his real name being "Robin". That was bullshit. This is what they should've done, named him Richard Blake and then at the end reveal his birth name as being Richard Grayson, why the fuck was that so hard to do?

3. Bane should have been the only villain. The twist with Miranda being Talia Al Ghul was weak and added almost nothing to the movie.

4. Bane's death. That was the weakest death scene I have ever seen. Seriously, Catwoman kills Bane. That was dumb.

5. When Bruce Wayne gets sent to that hole in the middle east, how does he get back to Gotham so quickly and easily?

6. Gotham was under Bane's control for 3 months, it sure as hell didn't seem like it.

7. Bruce Wayne and Batman both die at the end of the movie, and still nobody figures it out.

8. Bruce Wayne is at that cafe in Europe, surely that would attract some kind of media attention considering he's BRUCE WAYNE who's supposed to be dead.

9. How is Joseph Gordon Levitt's character supposed to become Batman? He has absolutely no training.

Anyways, enough ranting. What was your biggest let down in entertainment this year? Oh yeah, don't say Mass Effect 3's ending, everybody says that.
Yep those are 9 nitpicks most of which are irrelevant or have clear explanations.

Borderlands 2. I didn't like 1 and I'm not liking 2. And the VGA awards called it the best shooter of the year!!! I just don't get it but I'll try it again. So far, I prefer Black Ops 2 by a LOT.

I had very low expectations of Prometheus, so, it didn't kill me. But they let the fan boy in me down a lot. Just when it could have been very interesting as we see an engineer talk to people, he doesn't. Rats.

The Amazing Spiderman was enjoyable, but not the stuff fantasies are made out of. It was OK, but pedestrian. You want butts in seats at the theater, you have to do a lot better than that on a potential franchise.

Hmmmmm, I can agree when I say that Brave was very bland. The visuals were beautiful, don't get me wrong, but when I think Pixar that wasn't the first movie by them I think "Y'know, it was really good". The story's been done over and over and, while that's to be expected nowadays, I didn't really envision Pixar as the type to replicate a story done that often.

I also felt a little sense of dread when I learned that Dead Space 3 is gonna be co-op. GOD AL-FREAKIN' that's what made Dead Space SCARY. The fact that you're ALL ALONE in this small, bloody world of death and darkness. Throwing in another guy just takes away the feeling of isolation. True, Ellie was in the second game, but I freakin' loved her; there needs to be more women like her in video games. I'm not looking forward to prancing around depending on another character to help me out with the aliens.

Please don't flame me for this, but I hated both Amazing Spider Man and Dark Night Rises.

As in, I found both almost unwatchable.
You and I share that opinion. I just watched Rises last night for the first time. I almost turned it off. And don't even get me started on ASM.
