The way Epic has ruined Gears of War 3! They brought out all the DLC in a ludicrously short amount of time (most of which are rubbish maps which are far too big for 5 v 5), keep turing the servers off (which was supposed to be one of its main selling points), and what really has pissed me off is that you have to own the map packs to play the multiplayer! My house mate tried to download the content update needed but it still wouldn't let him play multiplayer! Its bollocks! Since Judgement has been announced it seems they've left it well alone!

Mass Effect 3! I didn't like alot of the changes. Such as the big lack of interaction with your crew compared to Mass 2! From Ashes! It shouldn't have been seperate dlc! The Prothean is quite a big part of the game despite what Bioware said! He's far more integral to theplot and other situations then say Zaeed was in 2!
Then we come to the ending! Its so much about the colours or lack of choice and closure (even with the extended cut). Its what the behind the scene story was! After the original script was leaked, EA made Bioware change the ending, so Casey Hudson locked himself away & re-wrote the ending without any input from the writing staff! But what really makes it dissapointing is that no matter what you did over the three games it doesn't matter! In the end it makes no difference what so ever! The different choices, who lived & died, is suprflous as you get the same choice ending no matter what!

The Old Republic! Foolishly bought the collector's edition (£120 i'll never get back), and all that exclusive in game content promised was rubbish or non existent! I can't even sell the bloody statue for a tenth of what I payed for!

Bass Effect 3.
Is Bass Effect a rhythm game, or is it about fish? Or it could be a rhythm game based around fish...

These are the questions that really matter in this day and age.

I've got another one, for completely different reasons:

Persona 4 Golden. The reason it was a let-down was because it ended. D:

Or was this the let down?

OT: Mine would be The Walking Dead Season 2, at least that's when it got to my country, got a bit better by the end and look forward to season 3, but man... Did it drag on.
season 3 is amazing. seriously, its my favourite so far, and you'll be glad you didn't give up on it, trust me.

OT: probably Bane's death in DKR, i didn't mind the film overall, but his death really irked me. also guild wars 2. i was ready for it to be amazing, but i really couldn't get into the PVP and the PvE not having dedicated roles seemed quite messy. genuinely disappointed it in.

Wait they made a sequel to Eureka 7? And they messed it up?
:(

My biggest letdown for this year was the book Helix Wars by Eric Brown. I normally like Mr. Brown's stuff and I thoroughly enjoyed his books Helix.

But Helix wars had an annoying main character that threw out common sense more than once, relies a bit too much on space magic towards the end and glorifies total pacifism and submission to an aggressor as some sort of ultimate good. Screw that!

Mass Effect 3 was a pretty big disappointment to me it wasn't just the ending for it pretty much all of the plot to me seemed rather pointless and I just loved seeing how all of my major choices ended up having the same effect in the end.

Guild Wars 2 I don't know exactly how to describe what is wrong with it but I just don't feel any desire to play it and when I do I just don't feel like I am having fun.

Katawa Shojou I went into that game expecting erotica and I came out with emotions instead. Whilst not necessarily a bad thing and it definitely made up for it but still.

Glad to hear it, the second ended on a strong note, so I wasn't going to just give up on it. Plus how many Zombie tv shows do we have to choose from, not like we're spoiled for choice XD

Misfits series four. Goddamn Misfits...series...FOUR.

I'm still watching it, just because of Rudy, but the moment I officially gave up on the series is when they resorted to killing Curtis, the only original member that remained throughout all four series. Oh, and they still haven't given an explanation for all that time travel bullshit with Simon and Alisha (if you focus carefully on the plot and all, you'll realize that either both of them die anyway, or Simon splits off into a seperate timeline which we'll probably never get to see because they seem to have brushed that all under the carpet), almost treating it as if nothing ever happened.

Prometheus. Oh boy. Not the worst film I've seen this year (lol Silent Hill 2 lol) but definitely the most disappointing. Missing the most very basic story elements. Everything that happened was basically irrelevant to the conclusion. In fact, there was no conclusion. Nothing happened. It's just a messy collection of side-plots with no main story tying it all together.

Gaming wise... probably Guild Wars 2. That's been one of my favourite games this year though. And it wasn't something I was especially hyped up about unrealistically; I got an early beta invite and gained most of my pre-emptive excitement through actually playing the game. It's a good game as well, I mean really it is. It's just that I was surprised how quickly it all wore off. It's mechanically interesting and technologically impressive, but it's not exactly overflowing with fun.

How is Joseph Gordon Levitt's character supposed to become Batman? He has absolutely no training.
Remember when that inheritance lady gave him that duffel bag and said that she liked his real name, which was Robin? He's gonna become Robin or NightWing.

That doesn't make up for the fact he has zero training >.>

Brave disappointed me. I've always been surprised by one thing or another in the Pixar films I've seen, but not that one. I kept waiting for another bit that was as exciting as the before-title prologue, but it never came :(

Aside from Mass Effect 3?

Brave- Good, but not up to Pixar standard
Prometheus- For obvious reasons

I was expecting a much better score from Thomas Newman on Skyfall, but the movie was good enough to make up for it.

Movie: I guess Prometheus. I didn't hate it, but considering some of the movies Ridley Scott HAS made it was definately one of his weaker ones. Also Amazing Spiderman wasn't even close to being what I want in a Spiderman-movie, still 10 times better than any of the Raimi-movies atleast.

Games: This was the year of the dissapointing three's - Mass Effect 3 (not just the ending, and this was by far this years, if not this decades' (yes I'm calling it) worst dissapointment for me when it comes to entertainment), Diablo 3 and Max Payne 3.

Music: The new singles from Offspring. I liked many songs on the album but the two songs chosen as singles were both horrible.

Books: I dont read new books, still have too many classics left so I generally keep to them. Did try reading The Great Gatsby this year though and was not impressed.

TV: Dont know. Looking forward to watching the new season of Dexter but I'm waiting for it to finish so I can watch it in one sitting. Have a sort of hunch it might be dissapointing =)

Gods.. the biggest let down for me has got to be "Paper Mario: Sticker Star", and all because Miyamoto shoved his fucking face where it didn't belong. Where was he to reroute Other M during development, like he did Metroid Prime? Oh, right, they left the whole thing up to that hack Sakamoto, who couldn't write his way out of a hallway with only a door on either end.

I'd say another biggish disappointment for me is Borderlands 2. I hate the new character designs and the increased emphasis on co-op. I enjoyed the original mostly when playing by myself, cause the split screen is terrible, and I have no mic/headset to communicate with what few friends I actually have on the 360.

Would it be fair to say I'm let down by The Discovery Channel and Animal Planet for adding crappy new reality shows to their lineup? Rattlesnake Republic and Amish Mafia look so fucking stupid, with the latter also being completely illogical. Anyone with actual technology could probably waste the 4 idiots it focuses on, and why the hell hasn't anyone gotten ahold of actual authority that they've been vandalizing people's property?

I haven't seen it yet, but everything I've heard about Prometheus tells me it isn't going to be a good movie, or at least that I'm not going to enjoy it.

So far, I've managed to avoid a lot of let downs by simply not being interested in most of the "new stuff" out there. I just recently got Dishonoured, and I'm hoping it won't disappoint me the way it has others. I thought about Assassin's Creed 3, but the more I looked into it, the less likely I felt I would enjoy it. I might still like Dishonoured, though.

Not that they were necessarily made this year.. but they were RELEASED this year in America. Pretty much anything by Daedalic Entertainment, it's an Indie group, that can't seem to make anything that'll run on this computer. It's a friggin point and click game, how the hell can I run Bioshock and Portal, but not their 2-D stuff?

A few things:

Borderlands 2 - The humor was very forced most of the time, the missions were very same-y, and that damn bug that wiped my stats and alternate skins.

Mass Effect 3 - I know that the OP doesn't want anyone mentioning the ending (although that too), but it had other things that were a letdown, such as Shepards not being able to fully import, many characters/storylines were severely sidelined, the stupid War Assets system, your choices not mattering much for several quests, and so forth. Still love it though.

My local library finally re-opening - It doesn't have a whole lot of books there to choose from, so there isn't much of a point for me to go there (which is a shame because I love reading and libraries)

My inability to get a job - Yeah, so besides not being able to buy anything, this is causing a real problem for me and the boyfriend (as in, possible break up problems)

Sorry if the last two don't count for the thread, but they are huge letdowns of mine. I wand to say that I have others, but I can't really think of anything else right now.

The news of the WWZ movie adaptation. I felt as if someone took my heart out of my chest and crushed it.
basically this. WWZ was an excellent book that covered a full 10 or so years of zombie adventures in depth. and it was well Written!!!!! for a zombie novel, that's like winning the Nobel prize! but then we have giant dead ramps, instead of the spine chilling stories like the air force woman trapped in a city of dead.

Biggest letdown of 2012 has to be, for me:

My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic.

This series got the internet buff, but failed to capture me. I'm kinda disappointed that the fan fare failed to deliver. I guess it's just proof that hype doesn't always live up to my standards. I'm sure many people love My Little Ponies, but I had to bail after episode 4 or 5.

I wanted to get in on the craze, but I just couldn't. It became boring and predictable.

He's a cop of quite some time and the movie doesn't make it so that he'll just suddenly the next day go out and be Batman, it leaves the future open as it should: with Batman, as a symbol, continuing.

Really, the complaint about the ending is one of the laziest nitpicks I've heard about the movie so far.
Because the ending sucked? Bruce would never give up being Batman.
