Movies as an industry rely on common popular themes that are used over and over again in movies untilthey themselves become the subject of ridicule and jokes. There are millions of cliches in the movie industry, and my personal favourite is a particular cliche in a horror film, let me set up the scene for you:
Most of the supporting cast is dead killed by (oh let's just say for the sake of example) a serial killer who uses a hand scythe to gut his victims. The last survivor is the heroine who narrowly escapes thescythe of doom multiple times before managing to escape the killer and then get into a car. She stalls for a few seconds before finally managing to get into the car and drive away. She drives away laughing and celebrating her victory.
And then
The serial killer suddenly leaps up from the backseat and slices her open letting her innards spill over the dashboard like spaghetti.

So that's my pick for biggest cliche, what's yours?

When at the end of the movie the ending is good several characters have died - these characters then get resurrected due to some lame reason so the movie can have a proper 'happy ending'.

Hey, you know that guy you thought was friendly until now? Well guess what? He was the bad guy all along!

Now see at the end of Wall-e when WALL-E regains his personality and he and EVE embrace happily... I liked that because I wouldn't have wanted it to end any other way because he was so likeable. So it worked there.

But when Dreamworks made Monsters versus Aliens they nearly had the giant grub monster get killed off and you know what I was actually pleased. I really hated that fucking stupid grub and was glad to see it die. I liked the other cast fine I guess, I thought it was nice to see them mobilize for the sake of revenge.
But of course the bloody stupid giant grub can't just STAY dead can it, no the grub I didn't give a shit about comes back to life as a giant butterfly.
"yay your alive, I preffered it when you were dead".

Yeah tell me it's a spoiler but don't pretend you didn't see it coming.

a Comedy with a forced romantic subplot (example: Zack and Mirri make a porno)

a Comedy with a forced "but you really have to care about the world/people/your job/feelings" subplot (example: Bruce allmighty)

The stupid villain who for some reason ALWAYS has a fucking god complex draws out the conversation just before he's about to kill the hero long enough for the hero's friend to show up and run the bad guy over with a car.

The nerd gets the jaw-droppingly hot chick, yeh fucking right

if there is a team of main characters, all but two will be killed off during the movie, leaving a man and a super hot chick who for some reason are turned on by their terrifying ordeal and fuck each other at the end of the movie, though deep blue sea surprised me by leaving two males alive.

Quating Yahtsee. "It's like being in a horror movie and saying everything is going to be okay and then getting your t*ts out" (or something like that) this scene is always followed by blood and dead bodies....every single time.

1. "Lets split up"
2. White man doesn't understand black man, they are forced to spend time together and become unlikely friends.
3. Bad guy could have won if it wasn't for his own cockiness.
4. Woman realized jerk guy is a jerk 2 hours after everyone else already has figured it out.
5. The good guys ALWAYS win.

The hero winning. I mean, 80% of the time, the good guys are outnumbered. How do they win all the time?? Like Happily Never After; they had all of the evil from every fairy tale every gathered into one castle and they still lost to about 6 people.

I want to see a movie where evil triumphs.

Yes. No sequels either, just the good guys dead and the bad guys getting whatever they wanted and everyone else being totally miserable.

Didn't the Watchmen have an ending like that? Because you know the bad guy's plans didn't get stopped.

I dunno, I didn't see it.

It had bad reviews so I didn't go, plus I have no friends.

Deux Ex Machinima. Please for goodness sake stop making movies were humanity is brought to the brink of destruction and suddenly wins at the last minute.

Well in some movies it works, but there it's usually something different. There's plenty of movies where people die, everybody in the movie mourns their passing but is ok with it, and yet the dead get resurrected anyway for the sole purpose of letting the movie have a cheery ending.
