So you say that Bioware hates women by making all the men bad? Hmmmmm....
Your logic got twisted around sometime while you were thinking about that.

This thread reminds me of trying to develop a romance as FemHawke. it went something like this:

Hawke: Hello.
Anders: Hello.
Hawke: I've got your back!
Anders: OMG I LOVE YOU FOREVER DON'T LEAVE ME.

*reboots xbox*
*goes to see what Isabella is up to*

Problem is, you're a guy, you don't seem to understand what women want in relationships.
I loved Kaidan and Thane, also, you forgot Garrus, although his 'romance' was more casual, which was a pity.
And Fenris wasn't actually that bad, he was angsty, but with good reason, and besides, his voice acting was AMAZING.
Not going to disagree on the Anders part though. They really screwed him up! He was soooo good in Awakening (I wish I could have romanced him there) but he was horrible and whiney in DA2, they shouldn't have changed his writer.
Also, don't insult Alistair! He was amazing. I wish I could marry him. I suppose he's my version of a waifu.
Point is! Just because you don't like these characters, doesn't mean that they're bad and that "Bioware *clearly* hates women and wants them to suffer". I loved these characters.

Surely you can't expect ALL of them to become lesbians just to avoid weeping quietly into their pillows at the compromises they have to make to get that romance achievement?
Only now, at the end of your post, do you see...

(warning: tons of name misspellings up ahead!)

In KotoR, I adored Carth. I believe it was also possible to romance the 'cat woman' as a female, she was alright.
In Mass Effect, Liara all the way! Hated the guy, I don't even remember his name now.
In Mass Effect 2, Garrus! The others didn't interest me, all pretty boring.
In Dragon Age, I loved Alistair. Zevern was decent, but I never went for him. Morrigan is just boring.
In Jade Empire, I liked both Sky and and Silk Fox. Both pretty good choices.
DA:O: They all sucked, so this is the only game I didn't enjoy at least one of the romances in .. that I've played.

*EDIT*
Though I SERIOUSLY wish Tali was a choice for femshep too. I love Tali. So much.
I was disappointed by this post. I was promised "tons" of misspellings and got only one. One!

Chill. The guy is just joking around.

As for escapists and ME3, I refer you to this thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.312752-Most-anticipated-game-of-2012?page=1].

From what I've seen of my partner playing her characters in BioWare games, I'd come to be under the impression that the romances for female player characters were actually less prone to be annoying.

I mean, I loved Morrigan, Tali, and Merrill, but I didn't exactly choose them after serious deliberation. To me, they were the only choice in their respective game, and I've seen this sentiment echoed by many male gamers (albeit about different characters, and the rivalries can be intense), whereas I've seen more female gamers seem more genuinely conflicted between their options in at least the Dragon Age series.

And yes you could KILL Tali sorry but it's true. The fact that people think thats okay while a romance with Joker isn't is just totally lol.
Joker is already in a relationship with EDI.
And EDI can be calibrated so that she won't break him! Match made in heaven!
Why do people have such a prejudice against disabled people having a relationship? It's kind of awful.
You really need to get a sense of humor, pal.
Just kind of sick of people coming out with that excuse like it isn't completely offensive that's all.
You need to lighten up and get a clue.

Sex is the pay off for a relationship in a game.
Funny how the Sebastion one still works then without sex... *gasp*
How does it work then?
It's a chaste relationship he will not sleep with fem Hawke becuase he has taken a vow of chastity however he is very romantic and it is a really nice dialogue line (not sure if that's the right term) Very nice and princely :3 Seb is one of their better romances I find. Unfortunate that he is a DLC.

I wouldn't have thought they'd have done something like that with it being a game. I know bioware are ahead of the curb on relationships in games. But I still didn't think it had matured past 'press buttons, get sex!'
It hasn't. Not yet.

But, to they're credit, they seem to be trying. And occasionally we get a little glimpse of potential.

This was my experience with Anders too. After all his emotional trauma, and...

...the inevitable emotional trauma for Hawke after he saved Bethany by having her turned into a Grey Warden and taken away...

...I was anticipating a cagey, wounded, tentative romantic entanglement. I felt like only Anders would really understand what my Hawke was going through, and could cut through all the guilt and regret and...

But this is what I got.

Hawke: Anders, I'm super into your ass.
Anders: (with cartoon bulging eyes) AWOOOOOOGA!

It's just so frustrating. I can get a discussion of politics or philosophy in one of their games that feels like it tumbled out of a quality novel. But then I get to the romance...something I expect to be part of the emotional core of the game...and it's like the 12 year old boys in them took over.

... animals don't have personalities ...
So what're we? Plants?

"dogs have personalities" : 69,600 results
"humans have personalities" : 45,700 results ... including non-humans
"humans have personalities" : 37,300 results ... not including non-humans
"cats have personalities" : 30,400 results ... although most of the first page is asking whether they do or looking for ones that are like dogs because the default cat is almost exactly this [http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html].
"people have personalities" : 25,000 results ... including "Do Japanese people have personalities?" o_O
"trees have personalities" : 7,310 results.
"pigs have personalities" : 5,510 results ... including guinea pigs.
"dolphins have personalities" : 4,030 results
"pigs have personalities" : 3,250 results ... not including guinea pigs.
"chimps have personalities" : 743 results
"gorillas have personalities" : 213 results
"apes have personalities" : 8 results
"whales have personalities" : 8 results

Maybe the number of google search results isn't a good indicator after all.
I meant animal in the colloquial sense, non-reasoning* animal.

"Elvis lives": 577,000 results
"Magic Exists": 295,000 results
"Zombies are real": 202,000 results
"Alien abductions are real": 19,100 results
"Tree penis": 14,200 results
"Angels touch me at night": 2 results
"Google search results indicate something is true": No results (No bullshit)

Yup, google search results indicate nothing.

*corrected from misused term 'sentient'

Well, my apologies. I had a sci-fi understanding of the word, science fiction characters often referring to crimes against sentience(replacing humanity), so I mistook sentience to mean the ability to reason. Didn't realize it meant the ability to feel pain or pleasure. Just one of those words I never read the definition of until now.

My original statement should read: I meant animal in the colloquial sense, non-reasoning animal.

I avoided this thread for some time thinking it was some insipid fangirl whining about a perceived slight in a Bioware game.

Oh, how wrong I was. Bravo, bravo. Awesomely humorous post.

1.His face does look very punchable.

2.What if bioware are trying to turn femsheps and femhawks into lesbos by giving them lame guys to choose from?

3.it is very one sided. male shep gets miranda (dat ass) ashley (still hot) tali (sexy nerd) jack (total dom) or Liara (pure hawtness).

Femshep only gets jacob (meh...) thane (srsly?) kaiden (more yawn) or garrus (he's cool as a friend but i don't see how it would work if you tried to do it.) Why can't femshep just date Joker? he's funny, he's useful, he has an actual backstory and flaws that make him more awesome. maybe bioware is just trying to be PC by putting a "play as a girl" option. idk.
Oh mother of Chuck Norris. SOMEONE. SEND THIS TO BIOWARE. NOW. THIS. A MILLION TIMES THIS.
Now that you've said it, I wonder why BioWare didn't come up with this earlier?...

The weird thing is, I bet your onto something, maybe in Mass Effect 3, the chicks will get a lesbo option. Hold on while I use the magic power of BING!
*After Binging the shit out of websites.*
Well, I'll let Jeezus explain this one....

[sub] Sorry, I'm having too much fun with pictures, this week.[/sub]
Anyways, only male shepehards get to be lovey dubbey with another guy, thus meaning Bioware is trying to please the Gay Groups out there *Nothing wrong with that, fellas* but seems to not want the other half in on the fun yet.

Also, may I punch that guys face with you?
yes u can. we will punch him in his smug faichole.

Nicely written, OP. :)

I've found the Bioware romances hit and miss. DA:O was a definite hit with Alistair, at least for me. I basically turned back into a 16 year old girl thanks to him. I thought his dialogue with my female Warden was adorable, and his exchanges with the other party members hilarious. Something about that goofy sense of humour just worked for me. And I liked how his character got developed, depending on your choices and all. I have a really hard time not being a female Warden and romancing him. There's one playthrough where I'm forcing myself to um... see Zevran through to it's conclusion. As it were. But that pretty much means not talking to Alistair. To my mind, he's also got the most interesting plotline, especially considering how tied up in, well, everything, it gets.

DA2 was a bit more of an effort for me romance wise though. Like a lot of people I thought Awakenings Anders was great, so I was chuffed when I discovered he was romancable. But I found him a lot harder to warm to in the new game. Now don't get me wrong here. I think what Bioware did with his character and Justice was a really interesting thing on many levels, and I applaud them for exploring it. I just kind of wish it hadn't sucked out so much of the original Anders.

Fenris... I'm divided on Fenris. On one hand he's angry and shouty and quite difficult to keep happy. But on another, Gideon Emery's voice makes my insides wibble. I think I forgave him a lot for that.

The Mass Effect boys are a bit of a weaker selection. I'm one of the few people who actually didn't hate Kaiden for existing. He was alright, and sort of cute. But sometimes he had his head so far up his own backside he was reading the labels on his shirts - rules this and regulations that. I liked it better when he decided to throw caution to the wind. So when I got him in bed, really. Ehm... Yeah. That FemShep, only interested in one thing.

As for the rest of them, I quite liked Thane. Garrus had landed himself firmly in my friend zone, and Jacob could go swing for it. Like a few other people, I couldn't tell you a damn thing he said during the course of that game, and it annoyed me a bit that Shep kept perching coquettishly on the desk and nearly throwing herself at him when all I wanted was to throw him out the airlock.
