Is it like an an episodic game? Interactive liniar cartoon with preset characters you help get from point A to point B with a few choices that realy don't effect what happens in the game.
First, hasn't it occurred to you that maybe i don't write or speak English on a regular basis? Contrary to many, i use a dictionary to correct my errors but it can't do all the work. Still i got good grade and it isn't as horrible as you might suggest.Grey_Focks said:BioWare didn't make Fallout 3. Your thinking of Bethesda. BioWare made Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Baldur's gate, KotOR and the like. And be advised, your poor grammar and spelling, combined with your aggressive tone come off as VERY fanboyish. Really doesn't help your argument.Akalistos said:No. Beside, if it wasn't for DLC, i wouldn't call Fallout 3 a RPG.
Manipulatable stats that effect the ability of your character. Also, I wouldn't identify RPGs under the terms of the moral choice system that Bioware incorporates into their games because Bioshock, Infamous and Heavy Rain all had decisions that effected the game (or atleast the ending in Bioshock) but I wouldn't consider those RPGs.Jesus Phish said:He raises a very good point.
JPG would be better.
Also there's plenty of role play in Mass Effect to though that say there isn't. To say theyre just about stats? Football games have stats. Are football games now RPGs?
You can choose any one from a rather big pool of classes. Those have 3 different talenttrees which again cjhange your playstyle.Jannycats said:Isn't it the same case with Diablo? All the characters you can play with are already created and there are no choices to be made by the players. But it's still considered an RPG. Same with Zelda.
I don't know... I always considered a game an RPG as long as you can level up at your own pace, have an inventory stuffed full of objects, and a reasonably open world to explore. And maybe armor you can switch around that changes the way you look.
You know... Taking tabletop RPG, simplefy it and put it into a game isent really that great a feat :/Quiet Stranger said:Wasn't it the Japanese who came UP with the first RPG's? Bioware's Daniel Erickson:
Well, before I address the main point I just want to take a slightly more controversial route: You can put a 'J' in front of it, but it's not an RPG. You don't make any choices, you don't create a character, you don't live your character... I don't know what those are - adventure games maybe? But they're not RPG's."
I tend to agree but that's my opinion.
EDIT: Okay....thanks to everyone for clearing that up for me
If real RPGs are oranges and computer RPGs are apples then perhaps they should not share a name?Baconmonster723 said:So you expect them to create a perfectly liveable world that you can go to in escape of the real world? You are comparing apples to oranges. I couldn't do one small thing that I wanted to in a game, therefore, the game is the same as another game with a glaring lack of something that by definition is the hallmark of an RPG. Your logic is dumbfounding and just shows that you are only here to nitpick a tiny thing Bioware shunned you on.
Mass Effect is totally an RPG, notice all the dialogue choices, guns, and level up system? And there is no way in hell Mass Effect 2 is a JRPG. It's more of a cover-based shooter/RPG hybrid, if anything. FF13 is angst-fulled turn-based combat.3nimac said:To be fair neither is Mass Effect. Mass Effect 2 is a JRPG in disguise.
