The ironic thing is that this guy has actually killed real people, possibly innocent ones as well. Damn fear mongering. A very wise show on the Escapist once said: "We must stand up to protect our medium". If anything, this kind of "controversy" will just make more people buy CoD so...

Im about a million % sure i could be a soldier...?
I have that choice, and i have a choice to buy a videogame.

The woman...uh whats the word... CONTRADICTS herself countlessly.

The game carries 18+ ratings, so forget what it says about little girls and stuff -_-

AND LOL HIS ANALYSIS wtf...hese a bit of an idiot, isn't he?

Fuck sake, it makes me mad. She is stupid. He is stupid. OH GOD SHESE STILL CONTRADICTING HERSELF FOR GOODNESS SAKE ASDFGHJKL;'#.

Right, im just going to stop, im getting too mad.
Lol, this thread. This in particular.

It's an 18+ rated game that portrays involvement by a kid definitely below that age. Anyone in this thread that acts as if these two people are idiots and biased and ignorant are the pot calling the kettle black!

Oh, and, to all the very informed people posting:
No, not everyone can be a soldier. There are a myriad of reasons why, but for starters you must pass a thorough medical examination. <--not everyone can pass that.
Then, you've got to successfully navigate basic training. <--not everyone can pass that.
etc, etc.

Now, not everyone can play basketball, either. I'm not saying soldiers are something more than human. I can't be an NFL player. I lack just about everything to it. Poor me.

Secondly, not everyone can deal with the emotional stress of battle. No matter what country you are in, a man bleeds and dies in the same way. Hearing about it, seeing videos of it on youtube isn't living through it. And no soldier, american or otherwise, is perfect.

Ignorance is thinking that interview has to do with gameplay. It has to do with the advertisement. And the advertisement was in poor taste.
And the advertisement was portrayed in the wrong way, and the guy pretty much made things up.
Short skirt portraying war as sexy?
Holding an RPG like the insurgents?
Everything about their points is hyperbole.

The little girl was for comedic effect. People need to have a sense of humour.
And not passing through medical examinations and basic training isn't the point; everyone has the right to try to be a soldier in their native country, from what I know. Another point is the fact you don't know anything about me. I am in good physical shape, and I have no health problems. I would have joined the armed services if I didn't have other goals in life that I'd like to achieve.

Mate, please, don't start beef, and have a nice day.

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!

Hmmmmm, if this gets around enough, maybe Jon Stewart will do something on it and smash these fucker's heads in. As is, Jon Stewart is the only political guy on television that says anything remotely sane anymore.

Okay so wow... I wanted to stop this guy half-way through his rant and just say, "So, you know the joke of the commercial and the point of the catchphrase was just that those kinds of people are going to be playing this game. And in a War Simulator, anyone CAN be a soldier. That's like saying "I AM DISGUSTED BY KRAFT MAC AND CHEESE, IT IS NOT THE CHEESIEST! THEYRE TRIVIALIZING THE OTHER BRANDS AND SUGGESTING IT'S EASY BEING CHEESY... WAIT SO DOES CHEETOS" it's blowing a phrase out of proportion.

PS: I think this guy is just mad because he didn't get a purple heart. What an asshat

it's funny because they're doing what everyone thinks gamers do: mistaking it for real life.
it's a team based game, with faceless soldiers on an imaginary battlefield, people don't give a fuck what they're team is called because they just want to shoot shit. there were "Taliban" in CoD4 in the form of OpFor.

if the games had a team system like MAG, then I could see it being a problem, but they don't you're randomly assigned a team at the beginning of each round and you shoot the people with red names. simple as that, quit acting like it's turning people into insurgents, because it isn't. People sit down and play a few games for fun. get over it.

it's a game, the ad campaign was to say that it's the game for everyone.
honest to god, they're reading so much into it it's ludicrous : "she's a woman, wearing a miniskirt, and she's in a commercial about a game, therefore it's saying war is sexy"

Wow...they can't see that this is just an ad and it's not meant to say "hey, everyone can be a soldier. that's right, Kobe Bryant, little girls, people that wouldn't be able to deal with the horrors of killing people, pretty much anyone can be a soldier." It's a fucking ad, they clearly meant anyone can be a soldier...in their game. I personally think the ad is pretty effective, but these guys are digging way too deep into it.

I don't recall saying shit about you, so step down off the stool.

Secondly, this entire thread is, as you say, 'beef'.

Back to the thread:

What's with all these posts about what everyone can do? Everyone can't be a soldier, even if they can 'try'. Trying isn't doing, lol. Everyone can't be a soldier in this rated M video game.

Thoughts? Only one... THAT'S NOT THE TAGLINE. They purposefully cut out half the commercial because they must have realized this when they were setting it up.

Well, actually, the other thing that always bothers me about these ratings-obsessed programs is they never mention people who have actually served that enjoy playing these games. Plenty do; in fact, the series was designed originally with soldiers and former soldiers in mind.

What also annoys me is that the guy they picked up is, as they say, an "asshat" in the truest sense. He really feels like he's some kind of mega-elite, like he is personally America's crown jewel. I know I couldn't survive boot camp; I can barely do 6 push-ups in a row (I checked yesterday). I respect people who have served by default; even if they were just kids looking for glory and bragging rights, even if the war was a political ploy, even if all they did was stand in a desert re-checking the treads to make sure they weren't getting clogged up... I respect those who put their lives on the line for their country, whatever it may be. This guy? He feels like his opinion is the opinion of the whole US army.

Also, somebody who actually shot people for a living has no right to judge our entertainment that mimics the same thing.

This from a Country that legally sells firearms. Oh, the irony!
The even bigger irony? The sheer number of actual soldiers that play this game. Especially those on deployment.

Just came across this on YouTube.

I've already left my comment on YouTube itself which was, "This is the dumbest fu**ing video I've seen in a long time and really disappointing coming from this channel. It was an advert to sell a video game and the reason they had regular people using weapons with that slogan was to say, "hey, you too can play this game. Please buy it". Jesus fu**ing Christ. Oh, and what's more immoral, playing a war game or actually participating in an illegal war for real? Idiots."

Continuing here, this seriously made me so angry and Call of Duty is not even a series I've ever played or am ever likely to play. It disturbs me that they so blatantly missed the point of the advert from the marketing point of view and were implying some kind of sinister agenda because the people in the video hold the guns just like "insurgents" do. I mean that's just ludicrous. Also, while they didn't actually offer any solution to this "problem" I definately came away with the feeling that they'd like to see it censored here in the West too. Why? Well because it suggests anyone can be a soldier... But going off to become a real soldier, that's much more acceptable. Disgusting.

Thoughts?
The folks that created this ad did this intentionally to stir the hornet's nest. And I really feel this ad does insult soldiers. Now, I gather you have certain feelings about the war itself, and so do I, but those don't matter. I'm talking about the soldiers. The ad might not be intended to be insulting, but it is to many. And I'm in NC, we've got a shit ton of military folks here.

But my greater concern echoes that of the people in this video--it's one thing to make war into a video game, and then make the video game fun. It's another thing to try to make war look like it's fun. That is what this ad directly does. The video screen and controller are extremely important middlemen. There are already too many people who walk around thinking our soldiers treat war like it's a good fun time killing and maiming, and then this ad just reinforces that hideously misinformed stereotype.

This ad was a bad, bad idea. It was poorly conceived, poorly executed, poorly timed, and what's worse is that I think it was all on purpose. It's publishers like this who are going to get video game laws shoved through the legislature... but they won't care, as it'll mean a quick buck on the way out.

What's that supposed to mean?

And this guy doesn't seem much of a former vet to myself, the way he acts and looks, not sure. He must have only done two years and left. Besides, if he was a true veteran, he knows the rules of the military:

Don't get the military involved with your discussions by bringing up your current / past rank when it comes to the media.

IE: "I'm a veteran and is evil!" to a news station / radio show. No. Just say " is evil!" Never bring your stuff up with the public relations, the military frowns so deeply on that it's almost a disgrace. And this guy just said "I challenge you to put on the uniform if you think this game is decent." My family has for almost two hundred years, and I am in a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps' Program and applying for a military academy as an officer, I think I'd know a little bit here, including some of my friends who are in the uniform that are loving this game.

TL:DR

Guy is either a fake or wants his little 15 seconds of fame on TV. Nothing more.

(PS: Love how he doesn't say his rank or even branch, and stumbles trying to say what rifle that was. He must have been a lowly rank doing 2 years of service and left thinking he's some hotshot now)

Well, to be honest, I kind of found it funny how offended he seems.

Slightly off topic, that was actually a pretty good commercial, I liked it.
