Two new characters were recently announced for Blizzard's overwatch McCree and Zarya, and both of them have pretty cool designs.

McCree is estially a twenty minutes into the future gunslinger with a kickass hat, cool gun and overall good look. Though personally I find the belt buckle that says "BAMF" to be a little silly.

Zarya looks pretty cool too, rocking a pretty nice looking canon and looking pretty damn intimidating. Also, I gotta give credit to Blizzard, they said that they wanted to have a diverse cast of characters and after people said that their original female character roster was awesome but was limited in terms of body type, they turn around and release Zarya. It shows dedication to their mission statement and that they care what their consumers think.

Well, what do you guys think about these new characters?

Some people thought the cowboy wasn't coming and was reworked into Reaper. Good to see that theory didn't pan out. As for Zarya, she looks good but I feel she'd fit in more with Firefall. Aware it looks like she is in a heavy frame

They both look fine, I suppose. Neither of them get me giddy like the Medic concept they showed at the first trailer though. Wings, medics, nice visuals... oh my God *melts*

Nothing could beat the angel medic but this is cool regardless. Beta starts in fall? That's way too late, I have terrible luck with getting picked in the closed betas too... The angel medic, where's that previous gameplay trailer again I have to see it again.

Overwatch looks like something I could play for a decent amount of time, it looks like it might compete with TF2 even and that's been around forever. I can never get into TF2 for some reason even when I should like that kind of game, I can only play it for like 2 hours max even with friends before I have to go and do something else. M1 + W Backburner/Hammerjack Pyro is fun but it gets old when it's all I can play. I have fun playing Payload on Upward and practically nothing else.

Eh, never been a fan of cowboy motifs.

However, surprising nobody, I kinda like 'Zarya', despite not being a fan of beam weapons. (EDIT: Never mind, watched the gameplay trailer, she can use it like a grenade launcher. All is forgiven.)

Using that comboy "ultimate" ability just seems like pressing a "please shoot me" button. There's an audio cue and he stands still and everything. Maybe if you could use it from the sidelines after the fight has already been engaged.

McGree looks pretty baus! That cyborg arm just brings it all together. That ultimate is OP, but most likely is going to require proper planning to pull off.

Zarya looks neat. I don't care for her weapon types though.

Honestly, I want a more beast-like character. I like beast characters more than anything.

I like the cowboy, always was a sucker for that sorta western motif. I remember he was also in a lot of the early art so the fact that he's now in the game means we'll probably be seeing the other character that were in the art but not in the announcement trailer also show up at some point.

I keep waiting for the TF2 jingle to burst out at the end of each of these trailers...
Seems kinda poetic really, Valve copied Warcraft for Dota 2 and now Blizzard are doing the same to Valve with Overwatch and Team Fortress 2. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't at least somewhat intentional.

Zarya looks awesome. It's a shame the gameplay still looks so abysmally shallow.

While I'll be terrible at her, Zarya's my girl. Her and Pharah look like characters I can play all day long. Them and Tracer, but almost everyone loves Tracer so that doesn't count.

Wow, how original, A buff Russian who specializes in heavy weaponry and a cowboy.
It's Actiblizzion, What were you expecting? An Original idea?!

For real though, they're okay.

Stereotypical, I suppose, nothing that interesting.

"BAMF" is.. Dumb and I'm still not particularly sold on the character design proportions.

Ya, I gotta say, I was surprised the reactions were so positive when it's such a trite character type. I was watching the Blizzard rep giving that obligatory little diversity speech, then I saw the picture, saw the name, and thought "oh, they're just using the east-european performanced enhanced super soldier trope again, meh". In Blizzard's defence, it's a very cartoony game; the characters are supposed to be cliche and over the top. It's just not the grand specimen of diversity that they were trying to portray it as.

Technically while I'm not suprised that they reveal more characters but I wasn't expected those two. What I mean is that from the cinematic trailers, there were alot of characters in the background during the Overwatch origin part of the trailer but I do not recalled seeing those two in that segment.

Anyway McCree look too much like Clint Eastwood and with Zarya , finally Blizzard can actually make a female bodytype that isn't a slim model type despite their claim they wanted diversity with their female characters (sure they have unquie personality and pratical attires but their body types look the same as each other)! Oh and I guessing Zarya is a support take for her ability to pull enemies about? Still I think they need another Tank type given that there are only two so far.

EDI- Ok watching the cinematic trailer again, I did spotted McCree but the girl is nowhere to be found at the first part of the trailer.

But wasnt DOTA2 a thing before Valve got near it? or at least some form of DOTA anyway. DOTA rips of loads of franchises for characters I really dont know how the hell they get away with it especially with all the money its pullin in now. I dont imagine they give the original creators of the characters anything. (maybe im wrong?)

Companies rip off basic styles and ideas all the time sometimes intentionally othertimes not only so many ways you can have people shooting each other. As for the style im guessin they are following the Warcraft logic of making it look cartoony and unrealistic in order to future proof it more and ofc lower the barrier to entry since (im assuming) you wont need a high tech machine to run it.

As for the new characters im very underwhelmed McCree looks like a sterotypical cowboy and Zarya looks like an attempt at including diversity for the sake of including diversity. Actually she looks like they made a male character thought it was to dull saw the comments about lack of diversity and just decided to stick tits on the model smoothen its skin and give it a quick haircut. Oh and she Russian by the sounds of it which I dont have a problem with but again kinda sterotypical.

Im not against sterotypical characters at all in fact I believe it can be a good base to build a unique design off of especially if you have little chance to develop your character narratively in game but these just feel kinda empty and souless to me sorta like the design was committee driven.

Not to bothered though I likely wont be playing the game regardless I dont dislike Blizzard but they havent created anything with real lasting appeal to me in years.

There was no "DOTA2 before DOTA2", unless you count League of Legends. Before DOTA2 you just had DOTA, a Warcraft III mod that used Warcraft III characters and models (so it hardly ripped off "loads of franchises"). Characters and Models that Valve has basically copy-pasted whole sale, changed the colours of (sometimes not even that) and are now busy profiting off.

As for how they got away with it: It's Valve. They just let the Hat-worshippers sic anyone who doesn't worship them two times a day.

I can see the heavy weapons thing but what specific role would cowboy dude fulfill?
Like he doesn't seem to snipe with that revolver so his niche is to... shoot... revolvers?
I guess these are more like diablo 2 or league of legends "classes" rather than team focused shooter ones since there are also abilities that autoshoot everything which is weird.
