1. They WERE good. Now, they've just gone downhill, with the culmination of selling out in the form of a guitar hero game. To be IN a Guitar Hero game? That's an honor, good for you. To have your OWN Guitar Hero game? Stupid.
Can you really say it was there own game? I was slightly disappointed about the number of actual Metallica songs

I dunno. You could pirate a Metallica album later and listen to it separately if you want but since they are not good enough to make it onto the Brutal Legend soundtrack they are probably not worth listening to.

I thought the same thing not only because they are one of my favourite bands but because they are one of the highest selling metal bands of all time, same goes for iron maiden

and actually none of my favourite metal bands are even of brutal legend :(

It's probably because Metallica already got their own game. You know, Guitar Hero: Metallica.

If you want to listen to Metallica while playing the game, just use the XBox media player or PS3 equivalent.
Wait, you can listen to music on the PS3 while playing games?
After a bit of looking, it seems that PS3 still can't handle the functionality, requiring game developers to implement it. So it seems some games can for PS3. Whether Brutal Legend does is unknown to me.

However, it's easy enough to turn on off the in-game music, and turn on a radio. The point to be made is that musical preference need not influence the purchase of a game directly when the music is incidental to gameplay.

maybe beacuse the game is set around like 80s metal rather than newer metal.
You're kidding, right?
Metallica is from the 80's! Just because they have new albums(Even though their older stuff was good) doesn't mean that they are newer.
Same goes for AC/DC, I'm still a hardcore fan. Just not of the new stuff.
Yes, this ^ exactly. They went downhill after Cliff died.

that simple they knew i would like to play this game and so asked me "can we put some metalica songs in" and i replied "no you are to put good metal music in the game strickly no thrash metal"
OT: its simply because Tim Schafer does'nt like metalica

You have got to be kidding me right?
Metallica were at their biggest in the 80's
You kids don't know anything about music these days
I never really liked them. In my opinion there are plenty of better bands to consider before Metallica. Especially in the 80's

I like Metallica.

That said, I thought the official reason was because they're too well-known and they wanted to use lesser-played tracks and artists.

Metallica probably wanted way more money than the developers could afford to pay.
