Uhm guys... I hate to sound like a little *****, but....

I really have no idea what I should do...
When I pick stats, what's the deal with this?

I told you guys i'd be confused, i suppose my entry into this just makes me cannon fodder but i'd like to try it, but i frankly have no idea what to do or even how to start... :(
Firstly, the easiest part, make up a name and bio.
After that you need dice. A D6 which is a dice with 6 sides. You have to roll the said amounts for each stat. Str, Con, etc. These don't change at all.

Now you multiply whatever you got on your EDU by 20. These points are your main skill points that can be added to 7 core groups. Ie: You want to be good at Chemistry. Chemistry starts with 1% already. That means whenever you do a Chemistry check you need to roll a 1 on a D100. So at the moment you basically suck at it. You decided to add 50 points to it (since your character is a Chemistry teacher). You add 50 points out of the EDUx20 that you got onto it. Now you have a total of 51 points on Chemistry. Now whenever you roll for it in the game, you need to get under 51 (much better). You can't however have over 95.

After you finish those points on 7 skills of your choice, you get another INTx10 points to put on any of the skills nonspacific. I don't know if that really helped. Post up individual problems if you want. I think I have the sheets and info of what you need to roll on page 2.

Is this going to be a turn based RP (like the Star Wars ones) or will it be different?
Combat will be turned based. Initiative is worked out by the highest Dex. Everything else will be open. If you want to make a spot hidden just roll for it and leave it, if you pass I'll tell you what you see (if anything).

"I wanna search for traps." Sir Schmoopy - Sorry, that just buzzed in my mind.

Is it correct or what? I'm sorry i'm new to pretty much all of this..
Did you add the hit points? Hitpoints are half of your (SIZ+CON), Magic points are equal to POW. You also start with 0 Cthulhu Mythos.

Other then that, perfection. CoC is a lot different to DnD and I'm sort of throwing some people in the deep end so I don't mind you asking me all this.

I should also point out (to be a rightous old pian that I am) Egypt speaks modern Egyptian. In the past Hieroglyphics wasn't the only language of their time. When they stopped using Hieroglyphics, they then used ancient Egyptian before turning to modern. The dig site as Spencer told you was waaaay back in Hieroglyphic days so if you have any skill in ancient Egyptian, I'll assume it's in Hieroglyphics. Just to confuse everyone.

Also, it seems now that we have a lot of Egyptian speakers, which is great for the time being, but say if we're off to a German WW2 Bunker or a Roman temple after that, it won't be too helpful...just thought I'd mention this as we may not have a balanced team once people start getting eaten.

I know this is way too late to contemplate, but I was wondering wether or not you would continue to set up and create CoC RP's Rain?

Also, concerning that most people know Egyption... What do we get when we level up? Or, maybe a sort of default for some languages could be given? Not all languages, that wouldnt make sense nor would everyone knowing said language. Sounds like a good idea to you?

Well, it isn't too big a deal with the languages - 4 or 5 people so far have that language, but the problem with that is after we leave Egypt we'll only have a couple people who speak a relevant language - I think so far I'm the only person to choose Latin, although I could be wrong about that, but my point is, if I get royally raped by something with 1000 mouths then there won't be anyone with that skill anymore, instead we'll have a party that can speak one ancient language brilliantly but be clueless when it comes to a different ancient culture.

Wow, I was gonna see if I could get in on this, too many stats for me, I don't know how you guys do it.
Dont worry, I'll be there to push you over when you call it quits - I'd hate to see you go, but then again I hate having my mortal coil eaten. Basically, this is the very firrst type of D@D-esque game that I've tried. Unless you count Hero Quest, that was awsome.

I guess your right, but then again if it stumps the game I guess we can just hire some NPC translator or attend a language class of predetermined evil.

Maybe I will try to get in on this, if I still can?
Edit: Never mind, I just read how to set up a character, to daunting a task for my small mind but I might keep trying.

Once again, Byakhee [http://www.geocities.com/siliconvalley/haven/4173/byakhee.html] does it all for you.

If you do not have WinZIP or WinRAR, simply give me your email and I can send you the still very small uncompressed files.

All you need is the main program, and to click the dice buttons now and again, so if you really want to play but cannae work your head round the rolls, just use that.

Pie, I'd drop that Navigate Skill down to about 80/90 and use the points elsewhere. You still automatically fail on 95-00. Spot Hidden is a VERY useful skill, for instance.

I see your points about the languages... I think many of us saw this as a character that would last through this one RP, and then get a new character if we started another. I think I may do a quick revision to my language as well... No astronomer I've ever heard of speaks Arabic. I'm gonna go ahead and change it to German (since I actually do know a little anyway seems appropriate of a scientist type). Also the book titled Unaussprechlichen Kulten from Lovecraft's stories sounds interesting (Unspeakable Cults if my translation is correct)

Unspeakable Cults is a lovely book. Most of the normal texts are in Sanskrit, German, Latin or Aramaic if that helps.

But as Purp said, Egyptian might be VERY useful. :)

So I don't really know what I'm doing, so we'll see how this works out. I'm sort of unsure about the skills, as they seem rather vague.

Selena is a pretty sort of woman. She's very warm, and seems to have a comforting aura about her. Her hair is very short, and a light brown colour. She has big brown eyes, freckles, and soft features. Always very friendly she can sometimes be too trusting, but refuses to lose her optimism. She believes very strongly in the power of science and human ingenuity. She sometimes doesn't get sarcasm and often appears naive, despite her great intelligence.
Selena is a doctor that researches the ancient medicinal practices of Egyptians. She's very captivated by Ancient Egyptian culture, and thinks they knew remarkable things about the human body that could easily be practiced today. As a result, she often travels away from her hospital in London to Egypt and has grown rather accustomed to traveling between both cultures. A friend of Dr Hubert Spencer, she often stays with him when she's in Cairo and uses him as a resource to find ancient texts. Her sister Margret lives in London as well, and Selena visits her often.
